- This 1967 Ford Fairlane is a rare and exceptional find, being one of only 72 427/4-speed R-code Fairlanes produced that year.
It boasts a multi-year restoration completed in 1998 and comes with a Deluxe Marti Report.
Equipped with a 427 CI R-code FE big block V-8 engine, this Fairlane features a range of performance-enhancing components, including forged aluminum pistons, a flat-tappet solid-lifter cam, and dual inline 4-barrel carburetors.
The exterior is finished in Blue Metallic, complemented by black vinyl bucket seats and a center console.
This exceptional car was sold for $200,000 at Mecum Las Vegas 2022.

I had a 1964 Ford Galaxy When I was 17, It had a hopped up 390 with headers And a Big Holley carburetor, It had been a drag car. It was truly wonderful.
And this is why Mecum is heads above Barrett Jackson in my opinion. I love cars like this! Just like they came out of the showroom. WHAT A BEAUTY

For classic cars, I sway more towards GM. To me this is Ford cloning a GTO.

My first car was a 66 with a 289ci I paid 80.00 for in the mid 80s . I'd say they've gained a little value over the years . I remember going through my ciltons manual and seeing the specs of this car and wishing mine was this one . Beautiful car !
Bought a 58 Fairlane for 80 bucks put an r code out of a wrecked 69 mach 12 years later hit a tree at 60 miles per hour and totaled it cried for weeks that car could demolish 396 camaros once beat an LS6 Monte Carlo with it that was in 73
I bought one new at TASCA Ford in RI and I still have it today. It's not for sale at any price because it's an XL/GT 427 R code car. Only one ever produced.
TASCA was probably the only place to get that package. An older guy that used to work for TASCA on their racing efforts in the early to mid 60s told me a story where they had a bunch of '63.5 light weight Galaxies sitting in the back lot because no one wanted them, the thunderbolt was all the rage. Seems like he said $2500 or $3000 could have got you one and they still couldn't find buyers. Only if people knew. Glad you had enough sense to buy keep your dream car.
@@samuelfreeman9518 FALSE. TASCA Ford did NOT have an overstock of 63.5 R code lightweight Galaxies. Only 200 were produced in March and all 200 were sold by mid-April 1963. I bought 5 high-performance Fords from TASCA Ford 1963-1972. 3 of which I still own. Bob Tasca Jr helped me do legal modifications to my all options 1969 Boss 302 Mustang. It won its NHRA pure stock class in 1970 with turning high 12's. This past June, it turned mid-12's at NE Nationals in NH.
@@samuelfreeman9518 Over the years, I became friends with Bob Tasca Sr and the entire family. They even worked with me on my NHRA E/G, E/MP, 1957 Ford Custom 2 doors sedan. De-stroked 427 Ford engine, big-input shaft top-loader 4 speed transmission and 5:12 Detroit Locker rear gears. I set 3 NHRA records and won 3 class championship with that car. This past June NE Nationals, in NH, it turned an 9.86 and a 9.87 winning its ET bracket dial-in.

Mom had a 67 Galaxy when I was in hs. Not sure of the configuration but I got in plenty of trouble in it

I briefly corresponded with a man in South Dakota some years ago who said he had "3" of the R-Code Fairlanes. A red car, a white car and a blue car. The white car was, of course a 1966, and the red and blue cars were from 1967. He wanted to get 2 other drivers, drive them to the nearby Mt. Rushmore memorials with the carved faces of 4 Presidents, and then take a series of pics with the monument in the background. Then I never heard from him again. I'm now wondering if he at one time owned this blue 427 Fairlane. It almost has to be, because this car was said to be in a special order color and was a 500 XL when all the others were white Fairlane 500s. Also the only 500XL,

Always loved the '66/'67 Fairlane's. My first car was a '66 Hardtop. Interesting scoop, I've never seen a vertical center support. It's always been totally open to ingest chebe's & mor-poops. The 427FE 'R'-Code version was a fantastic engine. First American engine to win overall at Le Mans in '66 & '67. It's a shame that politics played a role in more attention being given to the 428FE & the BOSS 429. The official 'excuse' was about production efficiencies but it's really about one of the golf buddies doing another a favor to climb the corporate ladder. If Ford got their head out of their a$$ they would've backed Dan Gurney's racing program involving Harry Westlake & HIs Engineering Co. in England to develop his cylinder head design for the 427, nobody would've caught that engine, it would've walked the BOSS.
The plain Jane R code Fairlane 500s did not have XL trim...even had dog dish hubcaps...

Only 72 built, 60 probably got crashed. Could be worse, people paid $62k for a coin that's doesn't actually exist. As a Ford guy I'm just glad to see people are seeing the value in super rare HiPo Ford's. Chevy guys have been paying this price for cars with 100times the production numbers for years, now that's bread and circuses.
@@samuelfreeman9518 Why are you glad? Why do you want them to be worth more? What good does that do any genuine car enthusiast? This car was never going to a junkyard even if it sold for $15k. And at that price it would be attainable and driven. Not mothballed and dragged out to be sold for even more in a few years.
Chevrolets weren't pulling these numbers even12 years ago. Not even "rare" Vettes .

@@borisjankovici662 The way I see this being good is, look at the classic Chevy aftermarket support compared to Ford. If I want to fix up anything except for a Mustang it's junkyard hunting and buying the best worst original part, Chevy guys just order it as a brand new reproduction part, why because the aftermarket supports Chevy guys. When someone restores say a Chevelle, Impala etc they could pull a profit for their efforts. But say you have a '61 Ford Galaxie, maybe 2% of that can be bought aftermarket, why, because in perfect condition, rare large engine, rare body style $50k was max, after spending $80k or more restoring it. Why did it cost $80k+ to restore, aftermarket parts don't exist, so who ever has an original generator pulley can ask $400 for it because the only ones in existence are the ones produced by Ford 60 years ago. So Ford's cost a fortune to restore because the lack of aftermarket support, no aftermarket support is due to the low sale values. Low sale values are due to the market, the market decided a 283 powerglide Nova was worth more than a GT390 4 speed Fairlane. Nova got the aftermarket support, Fairlane, we'll good luck finding that missing headlight switch knob. I hope this explains it.
@@samuelfreeman9518 I agree with your assessment that Fords are far more expensive to restore because there is no aftermarket support, which is a consequence of them not being as popular as their GM counterparts.
However, what you describe occurred in 1970's, 80's, 90's and to the present day for Chevrolets. Fairlanes and other non Mustang Fords were not in the "click" of popular cars until very recently (like 3 years) and as a consequence they are all GONE. Rusted away, crushed. They can never have the mass following and the resulting demand for reproduction parts like Chevrolets because they simply don't exist. It's not like these Fords are waiting out there to be restored. They're just gone.
Additionally, the aftermarket will see a sale like this and price their parts accordingly. Builders will be willing to pay high dollar for - say - a quarter panel when the car is going to sell for $200k! They don't give a crap about the guy trying to fix one in their garage just so they can enjoy it themselves!
I have a 66 Cyclone. Reproduction sheet metal prices are insane, if anybody even makes them. It's not justifiable to spend the required amount of money to fix this car. It's sad. I have no interest whatsoever in the "value" of the car. I just like it and want to drive it. But I can't because of the tools who have turned American classics into money making endeavors.
@@borisjankovici662 I couldn't agree more, the Ford's are gone just like you said. I also don't think one ultra rare R-code Fairlane going for $200k is going to ruin the Fairlane Cyclone market. Sure some clown is going to ask $90k for there locked up 289 4-door car now, but when it never sales what's changed, some dudes grandma car no one wants just continues to sit under a tree. I'm still trying to figure out why people are upset at this sales price, this car is insanely rare, I can only think of a few production Fords more rare, 62 Galaxie lightweight, and the boss 429 Cougars. I'm not a Chevy guy so I don't consider if the car had the optional green head liner to try and make a 1 of 237K car magically become 1 of 13. You probably know what I mean, I love seeing that report everyone shows off at the car shows, haha.

Dumbest price I ever saw! You can build one cheaper and better! I saw a '65 Chevy Biscayne, all original with the "Drag Pack" option. Price was $75K. I built my own with a 550hp 454, 6 speed, disc brakes and Hotckiss suspension for $20K.
It’s all about the details - and this Fairlane has been over restored to perfection with body panel fit and paint finish that was unavailable in 1967. With that special order paint color and everything else, this is the only genuine example available. Obviously it was a dream car for both the original buyer and this buyer. Sounds like you have a fun car, congratulations - don’t rain on the buyer’s parade just because they bought something you wouldn’t.

Of course it wasn't an R-Code 427 '67 Fairlane 500XL, but growing up, the neighbor had a '67 390 GTA Fairlane that was worse for wear(this was in '77-78), and we all use it as a ramp to leap over a fence(using a long piece of ply-wood against the bumper/trunk of it). I think he junked it for $50 bucks shortly afterwards...

Likely about 4 grand there is a 67 LTD XL R code with a bunch of options built thats on You Tube that cost close to 5. Its like 1 of 4 and only one known to exist now.
henry ford, just under 4 grand. I bought one new in 1967 from TASCA Ford in RI and I still have it.
in 1988 i could have bought a 66 for 6 grand but it had a hood with no hood hinges just 4 pins

Loving the cars but definitely not a fan of seeing buyers intimidated by Mecum staffers in their faces badgering them for additional bids. Especially when the reserve has been met. Knock it down and move on to next vehicle!
Damn the seller made a nice profit off that car. That's what I love about these classic muscle cars is that they are a investment if you invest in the right one's you can make a nice profit and get to enjoy your investment while you have it.

The hood looks all wrong. the hole shouldn't be separated in the middle, and it's too rounded off on the sides. It should be more flat.
Ford Man1968, the hood is a reproduction. When the owner bought this car, several things were missing.

No tire makers make bias-ply car tires anymore. Coker Tire makes reproductions, though which is what's on this car.
