Kinda bummed to find out Randy sold the company but I'm sure he's out enjoying his life instead of hanging around the shop all the time lol
Had a guy on our last outing going up a hill and had exactly what you’re talking about happen. U joint snapped which then snapped ball joints and next thing ya know wheel, caliper rotor everything snapped off the Jeep. Took us 6 hours to get him off the trail and onto a trailer. So glad I put RCV in mine. Seriously though the bungee cord is the oldest trick in the book. Always carry a bungee and bailing wire
I wonder y Jeep puts U joints on the wrangler Rubicon as standard... Wouldn't they not be better off putting an CV as standard, or is it to do with the cost?

I already did the RCV Front axles in my 2008 JKUR back in 2010 when I changed gears to 5.38's.. Just be sure you grease them regularly, thru the end. Uses a needle point gun tip. Jeep had I think roughly 10k on it when installed. Am at 61K now. Running 35" tires. I also did inner and outer sleeves along with C-gussets to the axle housing. Made my own truss. So, front end is stout now.. Never a bit of problems all this time off roading, or using the SNOW PLOW (Western HTS 7.5) here in NE Okla..
RCV is definitely the way to go if you want Front axle shaft upgrades! Those look good. I want to hear how you like them after Wheeling on them for a while
These axels are a great idea , I had a 1992 Cherokee with u joints and if you live in the north where it’s snow and damp on the road a lot like Michigan and around these u joints on your jeep will rust and dry out and fail and fall apart from rust and you end up replacing them every 4 or five years . This is a great replacement instead doing the u joints
Another good upgrade part to put on my wish list!!! I got to say that little rat rod jeep in start was cool but I like you go more for off road!!! Love it Keep it up!
If you plan to retain factory D44, might as well have upgraded to 35 splines, which would make it comparable to a D60. You'd also have to swap to a new locker to accommodate but totally worth it imo.
I'm running 35 Spline RCVs in my ProRock 44 on my JKU. Beefy! Only con is that you're R&P is more likely to break before axle shafts & axle shafts is a much more easier trail fix.

Yup...RCV is the last word on CV based axles....and with you guys now running 38" tires a smart investment on being able to get home after another crazy trail ride...
Had you done research on the benefits of fully floating axles as an alternative to the RCV axles? A comparison of costs between the two would be interesting. Also, with a broken axle it doesn't appear that the CV axle would remain functional. That is, you would still have to replace the axle to retain the wheel in order to get off the trail. Great work you guys! Informative and entertaining as always!

I have used hangers like that to hang my calipers for years. :-) Love those RCV axles. Yes, way better than U joints. I will be getting the Sahara with the Selec-Trac AWD Transfer case and they give you CV shafts with it. :-) So I won't need to upgrade.
Speaking of how to drive videos, you need to include throttle control. Are you left foot braking? Because I've been wheeling for over 15yrs and have rarely seen throttle control as good as Kevin's, especially with drive by wire. I see so many drivers doing the lunge, brake, lunge brake, lunge brake. You definitely need to include how to throttle control over an obstacle.
Were you guys having trouble with your stock shafts? I don't understand to reason to upgrade. Since I've seen many of your videos and the stock ones have already shown an amazing ability to take whatever you throw at it. If I missed a video of a problem, could you link it, I'd like to see.
Are you guys going to upgrade the rear axles too? If so with what? When are you going to re-gear? I just put 37's on and I couldn't keep it this way for long, getting new Yukon gears this week.

Hi! I love watching your videos! Thank you! I have an '04 TJ Rubicon and it needs some work. I am looking into a NEW 2019 JLUR since I haven't bought a new vehicle for myself in 17+ years. I am interested in knowing what packages you bought with your JLUR when you bought it and what other upgrades/add-ons you have to date? I'm wondering if all the packages offered by Jeep are actually necessary or worth the cost if one plans on upgrading certain things after purchase, such as, wheels, tires, skid plates, axles, lifts, etc. I am actually excited about buying my new JLUR and getting offroad again!!! Happy holidays!
if you are going to re do the important parts, get a cheap ass model maybe even a used one. and get the rubicon t case and install for yours. most of your money will be in the axles and tires.
Just wanna know one thing usually a CV joints the rubber house and wear and tear causes it to split will get a hold of it what’s preventing that rubber after rock crawling and hitting the trails prevent what kind a rubber are they using what kind of durability I think you know what I’m trying to say
What kind of ball joints do you have with your eccentric shafts? I was looking at dynatrac joints, but been reading that are not compatible with ROV shafts or the rub. Thanks in advance
@@ClimptonDiddlehopper The u joints on driveshaft never see as much angle as the u joints on the axle shaft and thats where the u joints are the weakest .
Michael Heflin the cv on the jk would blow out due to the angle when you lift it. The double Cardin u joint on the new driveshaft is better for that new angle. But you also need to get the R&P angle right with a double Cardin driveshaft. The joints are going to be the first that fails** my shaft is a 1310 in the front and going to get a 1350 for the rear. The reason is I want my u joint to fail on the front before my R&P or a transfer case gear.
Hey love watching your videos and all your great tips. Quick question: Did you re-gear when you went up past 35s? I am hearing that the JL seems to handle 37s without needing to re-gear.
I’m wondering if you went with the full game changer MetalCloak if that would have any affect on fixing the wobble. Being it would have the adjustment of the control arms
Brad Campbell I’m not saying all one brand. They still have stock lower control arms. So that 3.5”s of lift is causing the whole front axle to rotate changing the angle of it and the angle that the front drive shaft connects to the axle. I’m just saying maybe the full kit that helps correct that would help with wear and eventually wobble. A new steering stabilizer is just a bandaid.
I been watching lots of vids from you guys, you are my #1 go to jeep Channel. I have one question, how much money have you put down to have what you have right now?
No no, you keep and still have your front locker. It doesn’t affect that at all. You just lose your front axle disconnect (which is what would keep your front ring and pinion from spinning on the road). So without the FAD, these would spin and you may lose like .05 mpg.
Does that mean your front axle is always free, or locked? Cause I was wondering what would happen if someone were to ride with their front end unlocked all the time.
I've been following you guys for a while now. With all of your upgrades, what does the Rubicon package have that you haven't replaced yet, that you couldn't have bought aftermarket? Seems like you could have bought the base package, did all the upgrades and saved a little money. Just wondering. Great video as always.
Because RCV doesn't make replacements for Dana 35 rear axles, do you know who makes something similar? I don't want to have to put a Ford 8.8" in my Jeep YJ as I just replaced my open diff that blew up the spider gears driving home last summer. PS: I love your episodes. Very entertaining as well as informative. The one you did on the new Jeep truck, makes me want one too.
@@mg2380 Thank you sir. Is much appreciated. I hope to get them sometime this year. When I replaced my carrier I replaced it with a Detroit limited slip, so all I need to finish upgrading my rear end are these new axles. Next year I want to upgrade the front axle including an air locker plus change the gear ratio from the stock 4:11's. The tiny 4 banger really feels the 31's even without pulling my camper. Do you have a Jeep? cdnbvr@gmail.com. Love to hear from you or anyone with old jeeps.
What do you do about the Jeeps ECU to fool FAD with it no longer working? Or nothing is needed because new shaft I noticed has a tapered area where the FAD would normally be located.
@Kevin Williams Tazer JL? That's interesting... can you use that thing to give the Jeep a 2W Lo option? I don't know why Jeep didn't just include a little switch on the dash right from the factory, maybe by the lockers somewhere, could be a handy feature on occasion, and would cost basically nothing to add this functionality.
Since performing the axle shaft swap which removes the FAD, have you had any problems engaging the front axle? When Dynatrac built the Code 1 JL and swapped in D60 axles, they also wound up having to remove a synchronizer in the transfer case. Link to article. www.dynatrac.com/blog/jeep-wrangler-jl-transfer-case-modification/
Here’s a link that explains the problem. It may not be a problem once the transfer case gets broken in. jlwrangler.com/showthread.php?1527-How-does-Front-Axle-Disconnect-Work-amp-Why-a-Transfer-Case-Modification-May-be-Needed

Great video! What’s going with the death wobble? Did it come back? I’m about 2 weeks from installing my lift. Thanks!
If the cv is so much better then why did you go back to u-joint on your drive shaft?? One minute cv is weaker and next vid it’s better. Which is it?
CV are still weaker than a u joint.
@@ClimptonDiddlehopper The u joints on driveshaft never see as much angle as the u joints on the axle shaft and thats where the u joints are the weakest .
cv's are stronger, there is more steel around them.
Bigger is better, you will have more fun with it = bigger axles
Good install.
I’m wondering if you went with the full game changer MetalCloak if that would have any affect on fixing the wobble. Being it would have the adjustment of the control arms
DW can be small amount of wear in many parts. sometimes one part is the culprit. all one brand would be of no real benefit except for sales
Kevin Williams thanks for the reply. Just thinking about it making my head hurt. Congrats on the jeep build, it’s a beauty. Keep up the awesome vids.
It would be a real shame if that FJ40 just sat in a museum 😢
Nice Guys, is this an upgrade for just the front or did you/Will you be doing the rear axle too?
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 Awesome buddy, wasn't sure of the priority of upgrade was all. Makes sense though :D
Stupid question. If you go with the single RCV axle like you guys did you will lose the locker up front, right? What are you using for a locker?
No no, you keep and still have your front locker. It doesn’t affect that at all. You just lose your front axle disconnect (which is what would keep your front ring and pinion from spinning on the road). So without the FAD, these would spin and you may lose like .05 mpg.
Does that mean your front axle is always free, or locked? Cause I was wondering what would happen if someone were to ride with their front end unlocked all the time.
I feel that Power Wagon needs a Cummins but a Hemi could work...if it's supercharged.
I've been following you guys for a while now. With all of your upgrades, what does the Rubicon package have that you haven't replaced yet, that you couldn't have bought aftermarket? Seems like you could have bought the base package, did all the upgrades and saved a little money. Just wondering. Great video as always.
Kevin forgot to mention the transfer case, that is a biggie!
Thanks for this review, exactly what I needed to know 👍😊. How about the rear axel? Did you guys upgrade it and is it as important?
What's the purpose of the half red cup? Is this to protect the elbow and grease from water?
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 thanks Kevin dose it get damaged in off roading
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 thanks Kevin
Because RCV doesn't make replacements for Dana 35 rear axles, do you know who makes something similar? I don't want to have to put a Ford 8.8" in my Jeep YJ as I just replaced my open diff that blew up the spider gears driving home last summer.
PS: I love your episodes. Very entertaining as well as informative. The one you did on the new Jeep truck, makes me want one too.
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 Thank you. I appreciate the information and personal reply.
This is a late reply, but you should look at getting a super 35 kit. Revolution and G2 make them. They're around $300.
@Kevin Williams
Tazer JL? That's interesting... can you use that thing to give the Jeep a 2W Lo option? I don't know why Jeep didn't just include a little switch on the dash right from the factory, maybe by the lockers somewhere, could be a handy feature on occasion, and would cost basically nothing to add this functionality.
Ja ja I just broke mine today alone with the knuckle... any chance you guys wanna sell those drive shafts ??
Did you notice better on road behavior with these CV axles?
Can these axles be installed on a full size pick up
Have you experienced a drive line vibration after removing the FAD
Since performing the axle shaft swap which removes the FAD, have you had any problems engaging the front axle? When Dynatrac built the Code 1 JL and swapped in D60 axles, they also wound up having to remove a synchronizer in the transfer case.

Here’s a link that explains the problem. It may not be a problem once the transfer case gets broken in.
jlwrangler.com/showthread.php?1527-How-does-Front-Axle-Disconnect-Work-amp-Why-a-Transfer-Case-Modification-May-be-Needed
Cool. I’d like to go to the one piece axle, but didn’t want to have to deal with the synchronizer issue.
Has there been and difference in fuel mileage since deleting the FAD.
Did u fix the death wobble?
Wow. Love the upgrades.
Great video, thank you!
How are they in the snow
More videos .... yes more 😍😍
