Hi, I'm the translator. The reason why the title wasn't translated literally was not me being "creative" or anything. It was because of a secret item in the game, the record with the in-game soundtrack, which had "Lord of Nightmare" (sic) written on it in English in the Japanese version. Actually, there was quite a bit of other dummied English text as well. But clearly, the developers had the phrase "Lord of Nightmares" in mind. Originally, I was planning to translate it as "The Master of Slumber" until I saw "Lord of Nightmare" in the game, and I wanted to be closer to the developers' intent. So I hope people don't get the wrong idea. I wasn't trying to "improve" upon the title.
That’s awesome to know. I’m going to pin this comment. Also, I didn’t mean to imply that you were trying to improve the title. Sorry if I made it seem that way. And thank you for your hard work! It really is a fantastic translation.
@@dungeonchill In general, a healthy benefit of doubt should be afforded in most cases; I hadn't figured you meant it that way in the slightest :) Also, this fact really helps, so thank you both. -EDITED FOR ACCURACY OF INTENT-
The problem is that I don't think these games look... great without the natural blending/anti-aliasing/etc that you got from a CRT. These games were designed with a CRT screen in mind. 3D/2D games suffer the most, because the CRT made everything look of a piece, instead of the backgrounds looking jarring. CRT filters have gotten kind of incredible, especially CRT Royale. I recently played through FF9 on retroarch with it and it looked great.
I think part of the reason the first game's setting works so well is also because you're on an ocean liner; if Richard wants off, good luck getting to land or finding help. Ocean horror is a great setting and not done as often as spoopy mansions, which are always good, but I agree with you. The setting of the last game was better. Bless fanslations and the dedicated people behind them, especially when they go for making it seem like an entry in the series rather than a direct translation. Loved hearing about this one! It seems almost like this game is a soft reboot of the series, with Richard 🤔 But I'd have to see with 3; if we have a new protag, if it's a continuation, etc. Regardless, you did an amazing job! I'm wracking my brain for summer streets in Yokohama, but coming up with nothing for now. Excited to see what's next!
100% love the little added bits of personality like the "noisies" and the hype yelling about the door raft. You've got a great balance going with those and your eloquent, well-written review and summary. Idk what to say besides "keep it up" and pls don't make us wait a year for Echo Night: Beyond! Though I guess it's kinda tradition at this point.
It is cold and the rain is annoying, but when the Sun is out, it is still nice. Videos about Horror games are great in the cold anyway and Dungeon Chill does a fantastic job.
A little girl orphaned from time on an airship and a girl in a haunted mansion inseparable from her faithful pet dog? Fascinating! Someone should expand on those ideas.

Yeah, me too. I was watching an earlier video today and he was questioning the viewers on how they liked the 'longer form content'. Really glad he stuck with this formula! Really captivating videos to watch.
Glad to have some FromSoftware goodness to tie me over until the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. I'm also glad you covered this, the first Echo Nights and Kuon. I've played Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and of course Elden Ring and I knew of King's Field and Armored Core before I played 6. But I'm not as familiar with their other games, so it's cool to see these games of a studio I like but are obscure to me being covered. Keep up the good work, Dungeon!
When the zeppelin was mentioned, I couldn't help but be reminded of the Hindenburg, of which Max Miller of Tasting History fame did an episode on. Remarkably, one of the stories he told was about a family that got separated while trying to flee the airship, which also reminds me of the story here in this game.
Oh hell yeah! I stumbled onto this channel a few days back and I've been binging the videos, and I JUST watched the first Echo Night video--and the sequel video didn't disappoint. Thank you for the excellent work you do!
They went back to Armored Core, hopefully, just hopefully Miyazaki and the big wigs at FromSoft realize that their older experimental non-Souls games still have potential.
Fromsoft did make an attempt to experiment with their old mystery format in their VR game "Deracine". It didnt do that well because VR wasn't widely available in 2018 when it released, and it was a Sony exclusive. But its a phenomenally crafted story with some really interesting twists worthy of Fromsoft's legacy.
