I hired on with Norfolk Southern in 1999, right after the Conrail merger. I was assigned Calumet Yard in Chicago as a conductor trainee. I had the pleasure of being trained by the last of the Wabash conductors before they all retired in the mid-2000’s. They were a great bunch of guys and I miss them terribly sometimes. They always had great stories to tell and were amazing to watch as they did their jobs with ease. I guess that’s why the old heads from the former Penn Central called me a real railroader. I did things just the way they did. Not that it was always a good thing though.😁
I grew up within walking distance of where the scene at 4:15 was taken! As a kid I’d sit in that spot and watch DT&I trains as well as Wabash/N&W and GTW
This railroad is one of my favorites and now the DVD is a nice addition that will join my collection of railroad goodies. And the memory lives on the prototype railroads in the form of Norfolk Southern Railway EMD SD70ACe #1070. So, four sets of thanks are in order. First, to Emery for filming these scenes. Second to Green Frog for making a great video and third to Norfolk Southern for making a Heritage Unit to remember this railroad. Lastly to Andy Fletcher for his amazing Wabash drawings! ^_^
From 1954 to 1957 Wabash steam was very much alive in the city of Fort Wayne. Wabash B7 class 0-6-0 switcher #534 worked everyday around Taylor Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana on the Lake Erie & Fort Wayne railroad; a subsidiary of the Wabash. #534 still survives today and is in the procession of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. A group of the society's youngest members have taken on the locomotive's restoration as their project.
this looks nice! the wabash paint scheme still lives on thanks to NS 1070! i recently caught the 1070 wabash heritage unit the other day going east trailing on NS 64R from the chesterton railcam west
Being born in the Windsor region, seeing footage along the river brought back memories. All tracks are now history . They used to barge all trains across the Detroit river but stopped when they increased the tunnel height.
HELLO! YES THEY ARE! THEIR DESIGN IS ALL FUTURE! YOU COULDN'T THINK OF A BETTER DESIGN! THE HORSEPOWER COULD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIGHER AT 2,500 INSTEAD OF THAT BABY 1,500HP.THEY WERE FITTED WITH! THAT'S WHY THEY HAD TO HOOK UP SO MANY F7'S TOGETHER, TO INCREASE THE HAULING POWER,TO GET UP TO SPEED. BUT DUE TO THEIR WEIGHT, THEY STILL COULD HOLD THE ROAD AT HIGHSPEED! THEY HAVE THE GREATEST DESIGN ON A DIESEL, IN ANY GENERATION! AND PLEASE DONT FORGET THE E7'S E8'S & E9'S! EARL OF EL BARRIO, NYC, NY. 9/27/19. 9:09PM
It's sad to see them gone. And you made a little mistake. Northfolk and Western is now wabash. Now they are done and no one bought or used Northfolk And Western so now wabash is gone forever until someone helps me bring it back. Oh by the way, me and my buddy both have retired locomotives. I have the Wabash 1162 or 3761 or 671 (they are all the same engine just different road numbers it had been through. Go to My UA-cam channel For more info. I will leave a link in another comment reply when the video is up!) and my buddy owns a Santa Fe. My other friend has a wabash and we try to bring the wabash and Santa Fe spirit and life back! It sorta works.
We'll I have two things to say. 1. Yes I can drive it 2. I have it at a museum and every month or so when they are closed il take the F7-A for a little spin with the rolling stock behind the engine.
The last shot on this video is like a super rare item.. its 4 locos from the 4 major powers. All 1st gens. A FM trainmaster. EMD F7. alco C424 and then i think its a GE U18a unsure. But a b axle U boat none the less. All 4 loco manufacterers in 1 train. That never happens. Never for canada. CN nor CP kept any models that long most of the FMs were gone by 66-67 rest out west in nelson BC. Cn and cp kepted their alcos in the east especially CP after the m630 coal trains didnt pan out. Beautiful shot. Super rare u should feature it on and instagram post or something
I love looking at those engines they just had a air of power and strength. Today's engines look like kids wooden blocks awkwardly stacked on top of one another.
This Music cut is called "Showbiz" and it comes from a professional Music library available at production facilities, and I am sure through online services today! Green Frog Prod.
We will soon be working on a Remaster of our East Broad Top program which was Filmed by Emery Gulash on 16mm. Once we get this finished we will upload a nice preview.
Just to let everyone know, the original music on this clip was replaced using the YT music library due to UA-cam copyrights on the original music we used -The original music which is probably more agreeable to most people is still on Disc copies of the full program that we sell on our website - --www.greenfrog.com/cp002.shtml-- -- You will not hear the original music on this link either (same clip), we just include this link for those who may want to purchase the DVD!
I love these old films of times gone by.👍
First time I've ever seen a Fairbanks Morse, EMD, alco, and general electric lashed up together ! Sweeeeeeet !

Momentum is our friend, e.g. drops & trailing point "Dutch" drops. I did those one-man.
Thanks for the natural train sounds

It's sad seeing these once mighty engines gone
Beautiful trains
Great to see all of those classy F units. Thanks for sharing.
AT 4:12, you see a freight with diesels from FOUR manufacturers -- Fairbanks Morse, EMD, Alco, and GE. Beautiful!
GM Eletro - Motive Division. Diesel, the modern power.
With out doubt, the most handsome, locomotives ever built.

Naw
Back in the mid 50's i remember seeing the Wabash covered wagons in Windsor Ontario
Only if that old rolling stock and track were still here today!
I love the diversity of cars on the Autorack at the end!
REALLY LIKE the music on the early part of the video!
Early dubstep haha
@@kurt8986 It's actually not that bad. The jive makes the old Stream-Liner Diesels look and even sound more cool in the present day. I like it.
good footage of the Wabash! Thanks!
Obviously, the Wabash was taken with the beautiful and versatile F7 cab unit.
f7 a 1189 is alive and well and runs weekends at Monticello railroad museum.
Where is 1189 in the video?
Do I remember a song about the Wabash Cannonball?
Prior to 1964, Both the Wabash & Ann Arbor crossed each other at Milan,Michigan.
I used to have a copy of this film. Great for what it was. Sad to see the Wabash gone.
Indeed!,The Wabash is now Norfolk Southern.

Since I own a wabash diesel F7-A I have noticed when I have driven the wabash there is a lot of 11_2. Mine is a 1162 known as the wabash 671
and whats the purpose of owning one? you can't drive it? right?
We'll I have two things to say.
1. Yes I can drive it
2. I have it at a museum and every month or so when they are closed il take the F7-A for a little spin with the rolling stock behind the engine.
Que música tan encantadora y distinguida, gracias.

Why isn't Green Frog's East Broad Top Railroad program uploaded?
We will soon be working on a Remaster of our East Broad Top program which was Filmed by Emery Gulash on 16mm. Once we get this finished we will upload a nice preview.
predates the railroad and the Wabash RR Cannonball titled after the song..
utubewatch
Kind of odd music for a vintage railroading video.
What happened to the jazz track!?
unfortunately had to be removed due to UA-cam copyright restrictions!
GreenFrogVideos aw booo 👎🏻 I had that song saved in my playlist and it got deleted! It was my favorite jazz song 🥺 (Show Biz by Jerry Mengo)
why did the music get masked...?
Due to copyright restrictions on UA-cam, we had to remove it, sorry!
