natural sugars isn't the problem. High fructose corn syrup and other modified sugars can not be metabolize effectively.

Truth. Glad to see someone comment this.
Very little is "natural" about natural sugars today. Our fruit has been selectively genetically modified to the point where our early ancestors wouldn't recognize it. Honey is generally full of additives, and wasn't available regularly. We have friends who let their children free range on fruit and don't use refined sugars and the kids are obese.
It’s not that our bodies can’t metabolize the processed sugars because they can. The issue is that we get no nutritional benefit unlike if you eat fruit, and it’s much easier to eat in excess. If we go strictly though off the amount of calories consumed from sugar whether natural or processed, you’re going to find any difference in weight to be negligible. The difference you’ll find to be in how you feel.

I am with Tyrus. Nearly 1 in 3 people over the age of 65--who are all on Medicare--have diabetes. Yep, we're paying for all that. And treatment is expensive, not to mention disabling. My mother lost her leg two years ago because of diabetes. It's a nasty disease, but it's largely preventable.
Food manufacturers put sugars in all their products and lots of foods convert into sugar plus snacking contributes to diabetes
They have diabetes because of added carbs ruining their carb burning energy system. The government could regulate it, tax it, or at least not subsidize it.

Not all "sugars" are equal and some do not negatively impact your health as much as others. Obesity became more of a problem when processed forms, such as high fructose corn syrup, became more widely used. Additional note: Do not assume sugar-alternatives, such as artificial sweeteners, are a safer option. Ones derived from plants are usually the better choice. Some of the currently used artificial sweeteners have previously been justifiably pulled from the market due to safety concerns.

Not true. Your body can't tell the difference between Snickers sugar and fruit sugar. All sugars are bad, some are just worse.
I was using agave like crazy when we were told the body processes it better than sugar.
Then we were told it's actually worse, and that real maple is THE BEST option because it's not empty calories.

@@RH-tv9hk Just go cold turkey. Stop using anything. It'll taste like crap for the first week or two, then your brain will adjust, and you will no longer miss it. I did that with tea. Was up to two sugars a _long_ time ago, and just stopped adding it one day. Had sweetened tea a couple of times since after diving in cold water at night. The body really appreciates it in that circumstance, but that is a special case.
(I don't drink instant or filtered coffee, so maybe that is undrinkable without sweetening. I enjoy a daily capuccino instead.)

I can easily walk away from it. Veganism for me is yet another dour, unsmiling woke fad. If we all went vegan, cows, sheep, and chickens would go extinct as all the fields were turned over to crops. What a victory.

I like Tyrus’s transparency at the end. Obesity is definitely deadly and an epidemic in this country. There is a place for body positivity in this society, but even more so, people need to be aware of the importance of their overall health in the long term. This is especially true if you have children who need you and depend upon you to be there.
Teacher Diana..great points our children unfortunately today look like they ate the children of yesteryear..and I say that in jest but you get my meaning..nobody wants to go through life with a obesity issue or the health problems it carries with it ..one of my granddaughters is right now and she is only 10..lastly you are very beautiful..just felt like compliment was due

Tyrus brings up the notion of addiction. I think in general everyone has an addiction of some sort -- food, gambling, alcohol, gaming, etc. They represent dis-ordered desires. One of the problems, and Tyrus alludes to this, is that we are willing to judge certain addictions (drugs) while ignoring others (food).
Maybe there is a silver lining with food prices rising. I do shop at at Walmart,Target and even Aldi all of the carts are loaded up with carbs.(mainly the simple carbs.) driven by obese people. Don't try calling me a racist because there are probably 10 people of "other" races in the whole city...
