    Have fun! I'm fairly new to surfing. My background is ski racing. I often got into the "freeway mentality" of going up the lift, then skiing down while focusing only on technique and performance. I didn't enjoy myself some days. Now, I celebrate every wave, every ski run, every mile hiked, every sunrise and sunset. Have fun, and not only will you surf better, you'll also enjoy your life more.

    Sometimes I have to just remind myself how thankful I am and should be to even be able to do this thing we love- especially on days like today when the big waves are finally coming in but so is the big wind making a mess...but still, since I have been back in the water January 2, 2020 I have surfed with dolphins, sharks, turtles, shining schools, sunrises, storms, God's presence. I missed it and didn't even know I missed it until coming out of the fog of losing my wife , surfing was given back to me and I will always be thankful for that.

    Great summary at the end. The thing is are you surfing for you and how it feels, or for everyone else on the beach? If it's the second you will never be fully satisfied.

    I think it’s you vs you. If you put pressure on yourself to surf well it ends in tears. The best I’ve surfed is when I’m fully relaxed and not thinking too much into it. Also you’re right. If the waves aren’t pumping it’s gonna be an average session at tops. Cool vid bro 🤙

      @emma-nd2ey 3 роки тому +1

      Some tips: if you have a board to heavy to duckdive, do a turtle role ( I'm sure there's videos on how), and if you have a short board and sort of can, do some arm Excersises to help get the strength and technique.. There is more that goes into getting under breaking waves but those are some tips 👏👏

    just bought myself a 6mm wetsuit and a 7,8 board. Live on the westcoast of Norway, went out for my first session yesterday. Most fun i`ve had in years. Stood up, but took me a while. Had no idea how much energy it would take, feeling like i ran for ten straight hours. Think this channel will help me on my way! Thanx for great content. Cant wait to be back in the ocean!:)

    Where I’m surfing not only are the waves small, but it takes a while to travel there. I like long boarding, and wave count is important for me so I think in the future the smallest I’ll go is a 6 or 5’6 foamie

    I'll make it brief (as I can), this is my favorite video that I have seen of yours. I am an beginner/intermediate surfer at best, today was the first day I was able to pump/ride up and down on a wave in a single direction (it was amazing and can't wait for more). All that being said, I am a local in Oceanside, and even though I am still learning I notice that most surfers that come to my spot bring the boards that they want to work and ignore the actual conditions. I check surfline before every session and take the info to heart and try to bring the right board for the conditions of the day, regardless of the board I want to bring and try to force to work. I see guys bring their shortboards out and catch a handful of waves at best or almost nothing when the conditions are very obvious for a longer board, and they give me dirty looks cause I'm riding a wavestorm and catching waves that they have been waiting forever for. I wish the surf community cared less about trying to be the best surfer and what everybody might think of them and just enjoy the conditions of the day and bring the board that fits the day (even if it's a big foamie). Not trying to be a downer I just want everybody to have fun, I just feel bad when I see guys waiting in the lineup for a wave that won't come, cause they don't have the right equipment. Feel free to roast me, I just wanted to throw that out there. I love your videos and can honestly say that 40% of my progress has come from your instruction and the rest from time in the water. Thanks so much for what you do and God bless. Keep ripping.

      Wow.... Great reply. I'm one of those short board surfers who travel down from Los Angeles to Oceanside without looking at the report. And prolly watch you cruise right by on the foamie. I'm not jealous but you're right about the board for the right conditions are key.

    • @eddielee6573

      Do you always nose dive on the pop up or is it clumsy feet?

    • @ginadand
      @ginadand 3 роки тому +1

      @@eddielee6573 it’s like right after I pop up. My coach said I have to put more pressure on my back foot and turn down the line faster so I’ve been working on that. It’s been slow progress. I went to the pool last week and used the 8’ foamie and did better on that. This is happening on 3’- 5’ steeper waves. Under 3’ I’m fine.

    I think people are going back to long boards because the majority of people who surf now thought it would be super easy to learn and to surf, and then realized...it's not. It's very demanding physically and technically, so those who "went back" to a long board are not the ones who can surf, are the ones who can't.
