This was an absolute surprise, considering curling is one of Canada's favorite sport and that it was at the vancouver olympics
It wasn't _that_ big of a surprise considering the Swedish team were the reigning Olympic champions from Turin 2006.

The objective of this game is to get the rounded stone to slide and curl into the bull's eye. The thrower will do her best to push it to whichever angle she deems fit (and naturally, the stone will start to curl as it moves along), the other two girls will try to 'guide' the sliding stone into the bull's eye by brushing the ice sheet. Brushing the ice sheet will make it 'smoother' for the stone to travel faster and more in a straight line. It takes teamwork for the 3 girls to try their best to get the stone into the bull's eye.

It's nice to see them include a sports in the Olympics where my grandma feels like she'd have a chance. She's been pushing brooms for ages.
I started watching curling that Olympics because one of my best friends girlfriend was really into it, it began as snide remarks which quickly grew into intense interest. we even cancelled bar-nights to watch the Swedish Women troupe kick ass. I came home from a night out just in time to witness the Swedish Women's troupe take home the gold. What this "highlight" doesn't show is the Canadian squad basically had the game won by extension but they fumbled their final stone. Curling is one of the most cerebral sports I've ever watched.

Jim Freeman Have you ever actually curled? Sweeping isn't as easy as it looks, it takes fitness. Occasionally you will see a slightly out of shape or older person playing but they are usually the skip, who rarely sweeps, is mostly involved in the strategy. Besides, there are loads of other Olympic sports that require less athletic ability than curling. Examples include Archery, shooting, equestrian, or bobsleigh.

Kabaddi is fucking gnarly tho. Also it would beg the question what defines as a sport. Physical fitness have shown to have carry over for stamina, concentration and reflexes. So e sports should definitely be considered if chess is.

News update, not even have they shunned it, Curling is now banned in all NATO states. It is seen as a sleep aid and should in no way be allowed on any media platform.

Its a signal to wipe the ice. She is constanly looking at the Movement of the stone and shouts whenever needed to wipe the ice floor, once she stops screeming they will stop wiping.

That was a clutch clear out shot. She wanted to knock the two yellow stones out of the rings while keeping the red stone she curled being the closest to the center with that shot. If she did they won, which she ultimately failed. They were swiping as hard as they could to maintain the velocity of the stone, thus having enough momentum to knock out the curls. Sadly, the angle and curl wasn't good enough.
The only thing i understood about this game is that the Red Stone belongs to the team wearing Red stripes jersey and yellow stone to yellow stripes team

And sports should be like that, a friendly contest, not a merciless industry with so many shady business (like doping, for example). Maybe I'm wrong and curling is no different, but I like to think that the cool attitude on ice reflects respect and friendliness towards the opponent
