It isn’t hyperbole. I was there for Angle. He’s held to high regard, and for good reason. He might be the best to ever do it, in ring. And he wasn’t half bad on the mic either. Glad he’s gotten so much recognition lately.

In the end, it doesn't matter if Bret or Shawn was better. They were both exceptionally good, and we should be happy that both of them did what they did in the ring.

Those are misunderstanding what the topic means and it means who is the best in-ring for every era, not who's the biggest star. Therefore this is why the title needs to be more specific because of the misunderstanding going on here.

I would pick Chris Benoit as one of the best wrestlers of the Ruthless Aggression (or Toothless Aggression as he puts it) Era.

I agree but I can see why they still choose Kurt after all he had more acclaimed matches than Benoit while he was alive… although for me I’d say Benoit wrestling is more interesting to watch for me, viscous chops, powerful slams, smooth defense and intensity usually right at the start of a match
No wrestlers today are skilled original and intense like Kurt, Benoit and Eddie

I think we should reconsider naming "The New Era" for the simple fact that people will say "it's a new era for WWE" when they're talking about the Reinassance Era (which was coined by a man named FalseStartPod) i saw earlier someone named SkullBreaking said 2016-2019 was the "Modern Era" and honestly, I can't think of a better time period for that term. I also think the "New Generation Era" should be renamed because it's a new generation in every era.

When I hear best “wrestler” they had to be entertaining and could pull off a great match, not just one or the other. Golden Era - Hulk Hogan (see Hogan v. Andre the Giant/Savage/Ordorff/Piper/Warrior). New Generation - Undertaker (see Taker v. Yokozuna/Mankind/Shawn Michaels/ Bret Hart/Austin…etc. Attitude Era - Tie with Stone Cold and Rock (see every match of these guys with anyone between 1998-2002), Ruthless Agression - John Cena (see Cena v. Edge/Batista/HHH/Shawn Michaels/JBL), PG Era - Brock Lesnar (I’m not going to lie, his matches sucked, but he drew..lol), Now - Roman Reings (see Wrestlemania 40). I dare anyone to disagree…lol

We can't talk about eras in WWE without talking about the pre Titan Sports era aka The Vincent J. McMahon era. In this era, you have the likes of Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, Bob Backlund, and Superstar Billy Graham.

I’m terms of in-ring Kurt is better.
If we're talking technical professional wrestling then I'd agree on Steamboat and then choose Bret over HBK but if we're talking overall professional wrestler then I'd have to give the golden age to Macho Man and then HBK because. Steamboat and Bret were not top tier on the mic. HBK wasn't top tier on the mic either but more than good enough since he could work the crowds well and put on superb maches. Macho Man could put on superb matches and work the crowd but also was gold on the mic.
The attitude era will always have people torn but gotta give that spot to Stone Cold. The Rock was popular, perfection on the mic, could have the crowd any way he wanted but Stone Cold was more popular during that area and on top of insane crowd participation, he was gold on the mic as well, put on superb matches but his character had such unpredictability that people would watch every Monday to see what he was going to do because we just never knew what to expect from him week to week and that was thrilling. The Undertaker was like a pillar of the WWE but his mic work was always limited to fit his character which unfortunately limited his potential popularity and yes, popularity has to be factored in because this is professional scripted wrestling so there's more to it than just being the best in ring worker.
On the next one, I'd have to fully agree that Kurt Angle was it. He was good on the mic, could work the crowd great and potentially unmatched in the ring. The next era could go to Kurt as well. Next I'd have to say CM Punk because although Brian was extremely good in the mic, Punk was the overall better pro wrestler package. I could also agree on AJ Styles next. In the current Era I'd have to say Seth Rollins. Gunther hasn't reached the level he undoubtedly will just yet but I believe he will eventually.

For the crap it gets, and rightly so in many cases, the new generation was absolutely loaded at the higher end. Bret, Owen, Taker, HBK, Henning, Flair, Bulldog, Razor, Bam Bam, Bossman, Foley started his run in WWE in that era and so did Austin. Goldust, 123 Kid, Yokozuna, Kane... The era doesn't get the respect it should, largely because of the Bastion Booger level gimmicks for many wrestlers. Duke the dumpster Drosey. And others.
