  • Well-known Catholic theologian Dr. Scott Hahn explains Christ's Paschal Sacrifice on the cross as the fulfillment of the traditional fourth cup used in the celebration of the Jewish Passover meal. He draws a symbolic parallel to the Last Supper and Christ's death on Calvary. Through his scholarly insights and important biblical connections, Mass will come alive for you as never before!

    I fell away from the church in my late teens. I've been secretly studying the Catholic church trying to prove my points to my Catholic brothers and sisters (I have 8 siblings and only 3 remain in the Catholic faith) for a while now. I didn't tell my siblings I was studying the faith; this was something I needed to do on my own. Long story short the Lord YESHUA introduced me to Scott Hahn and Fr. Mitch Pacwa's teaching. Thank you Jesus and thank you Dr. Hahn and Fr. Pacwa for leading me get back to the church. Needless to say my 3 siblings are very excited (I think I now have close to 10 rosaries- Lol) and now on to the others. :) I am certain in heaven my parents will present their 9 children to the Lord as full Catholics in the faith. Please keep me in your prayers that I may show the truth of the Catholic faith to my family in love and patients as the Lord did me. God bless you Dr. Hahn and Fr. Pacwa. Thanks again!

      Hi Joan, I share the same feeling of confidence with you. I completely have faith that at the end of our lives, my parents will be able to present their 15 children with all their own families each. For now, like you, I am studying theology, to be able to answer my siblings questions,when they are ready to learn the truth about the Catholic Faith.

Applying yourself just a little bit and you'll realize just how amazing it is and how intricate and wonderful God's plan is. Thank you, Dr. Hahn. That was very enlightening and it gives even more perspective on why the Eucharistic is so important.

      Roelie . There is no 4th Cup in the New Covenant . Dr Hahn like all Catholic
      need to use the Old Testament to back up the false teachings of the Catholic
      Church , They do this with Mary ,The New Covenant Consist Of Christ being the Mediator of the New Covenant , Christ who is the last High Priest sacrificed
      Him self as the Lamb with out Blemish . He shed his blood for the sins of the world
      one time . there Can be no more sacrifices , Hebrews 10 : 12 - 18 ; the mass and eucharist sacrifice Christ over and over again which is unscriptural and part of the Catholic dogmas . and The Communion which we take the bread and wine is symbolic remembering his Death . there is no forgiveness of sin or or salvation in the rituals , Read and study the word of God

    Dr Scott Hahn, you are truly sent by God to reinforce all those things that were taught in the beginning. I had a wonderful teacher, Sr. Mary Raphael, a Dominican nun, who was focused on the Catechism. We had tests every morning and if you got any of it wrong, you had to come in during recess to write out the correct answers and that would also continue during lunch. It is from her that I remember the teachings. Most of which you have repeated. With your explanation of the continuing sacrifice, we were taught that when Jesus said, 'do this in memory of Me', meant that at Mass we repeat or remember the changing of bread and wine into His Body and Blood in memory of His death on the Cross.
    But you do it to a higher degree by demonstrating how the old and the new testaments are connected and are included in the Mass throughout. That is a further realisation, but we were told that Mass is Calvary repeated.
    Also, when I was at school, we did not have wine. She said where there is no wine available, the Sacrament of the Eucharist is satisfied by the taking of the Body, i.e., the host, however, where wine is available, you must take it to satisfy the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Recently my grand-children were making their First Holy Communion, in which they only had the host and I heard one of the teachers say it would be too difficult to include wine.

    • @GeorgePenton-np9rh
      @GeorgePenton-np9rh 4 роки тому +1

      Patricia, actually the Church teaches very specifically that for the laity, Communion under the species of bread only is a full Communion---the Host is not Jesus' Body but His LIVING Body, and a living body contains blood, so receiving just the Host is both eating Jesus' Body and drinking His Blood. One of the Councils defined this as dogma---not sure which.
      The priest at Mass is required to receive under both species.

    • @cajundomer
      @cajundomer 3 роки тому

      Each species, under the appearance of either wine or bread, is substantially the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus, so receiving under either is sufficient for the communicant. Perhaps your confusion is over the necessity that at Mass, the priest must consecrate both bread and wine, and the priest (and only the priest) must consume under both species. Members of the congregation receive fully the entire Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity no matter whether they receive either one or both.

      I don`t know what books you are studying from , but there is only one that will give you the Truth . The inspired word of God . There is no place in the scriptures where you find that the apostate Catholic Church is the true Church
      Catholic use Matt. 16 : 18 and to say that Christ Built his Church on Peter is
      Blasphemous . Christ Call Peter a stone or small rock Petros in Greek and it is unstable never could Christ build his Church on an unstable foundation Christ new his Heart he rebuked him many timed and Paul did too . and Christ says and on this Rock meaning Petra a giant rock I will build my Church , Christ is Called the rock all through the Bible His body is the Church
      and it is made up of saved believers Acts 2 : 47 ; He is still building it today as
      sinners get saved they are Baptized by the one Spirit into the one body of Christ the Church and he is the Head of the Church Eph.1 : 22 - 23 There is no earthly visible Church that is Holy , that include the apostate Catholic Church which is full of sin . You keep believing the catholic Church is the true Church and the way of salvation and you will open your eyes in hell when you die . You need to get saved and read and study the word of God The KJV and become
      a member of the True Truth Church made with out hands It is a spiritual assembly with spiritually save sinners .

    Amazing explanation! Scott Hahn thank you for making this available on UA-cam. I taught apologists several year ago to Catholics at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church using your materials and many other sources. My purpose was not to convert protestants (in my option; that is a fruitless effort) but demonstrate to Catholics their most precious diamond of their faith. More then once when I presented these proofs, the Holy Spirit would do it in a way that amazed even myself during my own presentation. Often I would have learned more then what I came in to teach!!! Again thank you. Because of you, I'm thinking I of offering apologists classes to my parish again.

      There are over a HUNDRED MIRACLES OF THE EUCHARIST ON THE INTERNET.
      In Lanciano Italy, in a small church around the corner from a council sign "Miracolo Eucharistico", there inside a gall tabernacle is a miracle of the Eucharist. It is clearly cardiac muscle, and globules of blood, which has lasted for decades.
      Many of these miracles are still there when ordinary wafers would simply deteriorate in a few years, becoming powdery, these consecrated hosts are literally centuries old. One special fact is the blood group AB which is common to these miracles; common enough in
      Palestine, is relatively rare in the places where many of these miracles are found, and indeed in Buenos Aires where a miracle of the Eucharist was found, leading the former Jorge Bergoglio to seek scientific proof of this miracle, which identified through the cells that the person whose blood it was, in fact, had been suffering violence.

    I've discovered I think that the sacrifice of the Mass is the eternal sacrifice of Jesus for our redemption rather than the repeated sacrifice as has been claimed by others. Eternal in as much as Jesus does not exist in past and future.He exists in the present always. When Jesus sacrifices Himself for us He does so now always.When Moses asked God , who should I say that you are He answered tell them Yahweh sent you . I am sent you.I am that I am. He didn't say I was or I will be, but I am.Thus showing that when Jesus sacrifices Himself He does so now and at the Mass. Just my thoughts.

      @cajundomer 3 роки тому +1

      Not quite. Yes, Jesus in His divine nature exists outside of time. But in humbling Himself to take on a human nature, He entered the world and existed in time in His human nature. As Scripture says, Jesus sacrificed Himself once and for all. Heb. 10:10-14, 1 Peter 3:18, Heb. 7:27, Heb. 9:12, Heb. 9:26-28. That one sacrifice that took place some 2000 years ago is re-presented and re-offered at each Mass. When Jesus said, "It is finished," and handed over His spirit, His sacrifice ended in time and place.

    • @councilofflorence4896
      @councilofflorence4896 2 роки тому +2

      @@cajundomer False. We do not re-offer, but offer. It is the same sacrifice then as it is now, eternally and forever, outside of time. There is only one sacrifice, and we share in the mystery at mass as if we ourselves are at the foot of the Cross. The past becomes future and the future past.

    No, Daisy, I'm afraid you're dead wrong. We in the Orthodox Church agree whole heartedly with what Scott is saying here. Our Liturgy is also a Eucharistic sacrifice, with Jesus fully present in the elements. Haven't you listened to Scott here? You could also beg, borrow or purchase a book from Tan Publications entitled 'How Christ celebrated the First Mass'. This will show you how the lamb was slain, sacrificed and consumed, with instructions not to break any bones, and that it was to be skinned (scourged), etc. Also, when Satan takes over a new country or community the FIRST thing he always done is to abolish the Catholic Mass! ALSO again, Satanists only bother to raid consecrated hosts from Catholic churches, not from Protestant ones. Does that tell you anything? Ask for the Holy Spirit's enlightenment when you do some research.

One must be a member of the Catholic Church to receive the fruits of Christ's sacrifice - outside of Her, there is no salvation.

They reject Jesus as Lord obviously. I've looked at Isaiah 53 and yet they still have a rebuttal that the servant mentioned is Jesus. I love my Catholic brothers and sisters ❤
    But I believe Catholicism misses the mark on so many things not just the Eucharist.
    They way you pray the our father and Hail Mary like robots, the way you glorify priests skipping the importance of every believer being considered a saint ,an image bearer of God … the Bible clearly teaches that when you truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God, acknowledge you are a sinner in need of being saved and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord over all or that He is the Passover lamb and was raised in Glory and sits at the right hand of God , you receive the HOLY SPIRIT which is the marking of your salvation the marking of your true faith …. Those that were saved on Pentecost received the Holy Spirit not the holy Eucharist
    Jesus emphasized you must eat of my flesh and drink of my blood but as Catholics you don’t drink the blood of Christ do you? The priest does giving him what extra powers? You all crave that wafer as the source of some power but that’s not true worship , true worshipers is what Jesus says the Father wants are those who worship in SPIRIT having the Holy Spirit
    There is so much biblical evidence for this
    I want to understand my Catholic brothers but every time I listen to an explanation I see paganism and idolatry
    Jesus and Paul preached over and over the UNITY IN THE SPIRIT, the unity of the body of Christ we see all members .. Jesus said I will send you the helper he will never leave you once you have true faith in me
    Think about it 🙏🏼
    Receiving the Holy Spirit not the Eucharist is much more important

    There was no mention of "not eating the meat of the lamb" leading to the death of the first born, but absence of the blood of the lamb on door posts! To say that eating the lambs meet was necessary for the first born staying alive is at least exaggeration and adding to the Word of God.

    • @davidrall3596
      @davidrall3596 5 років тому +3

      Desmon, when the Lord handed down the last supper, He did so after the teaching in John 6. In John chapter 6, starting at verse 32, Jesus teaches on the real meaning of eating His body and drinking His blood and it's significance. All the Apostles say it is a hard teaching and they did not understand. Jesus did not say this is symbolic. He did not say I am speaking figuratively. He meant what he said in John 6:54. Thousands of people left that day because it was a hard teaching. I wonder if the Apostles finally started to understand at the Last Supper that Jesus was instituting the Eucharistic celebration that would last forever. Like the bread that fed the 5,000 people at the beginning of John Chapter 6. We read at the beginning of chapter 6 how the bread multiplies itself and the little wafer called the manna was the bread from heaven that fed them for 40 years, towards the middle of the chapter how Jesus is the bread from heaven, and at the end, how we must eat (in one case he actually used the word gnaw, like you are eating the pascal lamb at Passover) His flesh. If you are just doing something in memorial, are you really eating Jesus body and drinking His blood? Only in a supernatural setting where the Apostles would call upon Jesus to enter the bread and wine and turn it into His body and blood, could this be done. The early church did this and there is reference in the early writings by the church fathers that they were accused of cannibalism. And one more thing that might shock a lot of people is that Martin Luther, the fallen away monk, believed in the true presence in the Eucharist. Calvin tried to side step the issue and say it was only the true presence at the moment it entered a person's body. Both Luther and Calvin both believed Jesus was present at some point in the Eucharist. Ponder John 6:51 "if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh." and in 53-58 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.” Jesus never backs down. He never says I was kidding. He meant what He said and He said what He meant. He wants us to believe we are eating His body and drinking His blood. I believe....

      Jesus says you must eat His Body and drink His Blood or you have no life in you. But, no other christian denomination even claims to be providing His Body and Blood fully except the Catholic Church (there are some claiming something similar, but not the real deal from the very beginning of the Church). So, I'm not sure how you think you can achieve what Jesus says you must do if you are not receiving His Real Presence in the Eucharist. Clearly, those that heard Him first hand understood He wasn't talking about a symbol or spiritual "eating". Because they balked at it and left Him because it was too hard a teaching. Jesus didnt back down from what He said either.
      Christian denominations disconnected them from the holy lineage of the priesthood, established by Jesus Himself (Mtt16) whose ordination sacramentally enables the consecration: changing of the bread and wine into the substance of Jesus. When Luther left the Church, the communion by protestants and christians could only ever be symbolic. And, they dont even think any sort of liturgical sacrifice is necessary any more anyway (which is not true). So, no. There is absolutely a significant difference between doing what Jesus emphatically and repeatedly said was necessary for life and resurrection and not doing it for whatever reasons.

If preparation day fell on the day after (or any day after) Passover it was called the preparation of Passover. @@SolaChristo I had heard it was a Wednesday as well so that Jesus could be in the ground for three days to fulfill Matt 12:40, 16:4; and Luke 11:30 in the Bible. But I also agree with John that it was on the day of preparation, John 19:31 "Since it was the day of Preparation, in order to prevent the bodies from remaining on the cross on the sabbath (for that sabbath was a high day)" So Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation as the Bible states. There is the sabbath and there are the major feasts: Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. Which sabbaths are also referred to as "high days?"
      The first day of the feast - The High Day (Yom tov) -- the 15th day of Nisan (Our Wednesday sunset to Thursday sunset), night 1 and day 1 in the tomb
      The second day of the feast - the 16th day of Nisan (Our Thursday sunset to Friday sunset), night 2 and day 2 in the tomb
      The third day of the feast - The Weekly Sabbath - the 17th day of Nisan (Our Friday sunset to Saturday sunset), night 3 and day three in the tomb.
      The first day of the week - the 18th day of Nisan (Our Saturday sunset completes the 3 days, Jesus is raised from the dead sometime between Saturday sunset (the beginning of Sunday for the first century Jew) and Sunday morning.
      "From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised." MATT 16:21
      When we chose to remember those moments is not as necessary as when the events actually happen and show the Bible is the inerrant Word of God.

    A simple question for now, why do you do Easter, a heathen/pagan celebration, if it is supposed to be about Passover? Polycarp supported keeping Passover, but the western church, Rome, pushed for Easter. Yahweh commanded his people to keep Passover, even Paul kept it and told the Corinthians to keep the feast. Yeshua kept the feast as well, and as we all know is our Passover lamb. Again, why celebrate Easter? Remember what Deut 13 states.

      "Easter" is an English word, not a Latin one. You will not find the word "Easter" anywhere in the authentic Latin books of the Roman liturgy. I don't think it would matter either way, as such a hang up over a word strikes me as slightly superstitious. But to whatever degree it might matter to you, "Easter" is strictly an anglophone usage.

      @@gracepilgrim7765 Jesus said His Kingdom (singular) is like a mustard seed that becomes a great tree. If you cut a branch off (in the 1500's) it is disconnected from the roots.
      In what sense do you say _"the roots of Protestantism are prior to 15th century"_ ?
      The abuses around indulgences in Germany (which is what Luther "protested" against) were corrected by The Cathoilic Church. But too late; protest proliferated under its own momentum as the slogan "Sola Scriptura" generated thousands of opinions as to Biblical interpretation.....because scripture is _not_ self-interpreting.
      The seeds of this Protestant-Babel were planted in setting up the individual ego as the highest authority of Truth.
      This was not Reform but Rebellion. And rebellion was the sin of Lucifer ("I will not serve"),
      He incited this same sin in Eve & Adam, ("I will not obey")
      And it is the sin of Protestantism, & of modern, American "democratic individualism". ("I will have no Pope or Bishop over me"). "I am my own Pope/Church/Bible." "I am NOT a humble sheep in need of a Shepherd"
      PRIDE is the first(& deadliest) of the 7 deadly sins, for a reason. It is, & was, the "gateway-sin" that through disobedIence makes all other sin possible.
      Thus Humility is the first & most important virtue. Read the lives of the Catholic Saints & you will see this. Study the "Reformers" & you will find self-appointed-prophets full of pride. They claim to have "rediscovered" the true Church that had been lost for 1500 years....yet they worked no signs or wonders (So they said that the age of miracles is past).
      And, although Jesus said His Church (The Messiah's Kingdom) will NEVER fail (Matt 16:18), the Protestant narrative requires that Jesus's effort flunked & had to be restarted by Luther, then Calvin, then Zwingli, Melancthon, Fox, Smyth etc etc etc etc.....
      This narrative defies all the prophecies (That the Messiah is God's LAST Word to Man) and it is faintly blasphemous (That Luther will succeed where Jesus failed).
      This narrative also requires The Holy Spirit to go to sleep & desert His Church for at least 1500 years (or 1900 years if you are a Pentecostal). Then He wakes up & goes berserk creating thousands of Churches!

If one believes that he or she can add something to the Finished Work of Christ, then he or she believed false Gospel of self-righteousness and of works! (Gal 1:6-9) There is nothing remains to us to do to consummate God's' plan of redemption! He paid dear price - the very life of His Son - the Blood! Our part is to repent and believe in the Gospel of Christ (Mk 1:15) - Jesus died on the Cross for our sins, was buried and rose again on third day for our justification! Nikolay, is that your opinion based on what you read? If it is your opinion, can it be considered a fallible teaching of the scriptures? When Christ was crucified, He was crucified for ALL mankind!! That doesn't mean that ALL mankind is saved and everyone goes to heaven. There are still things we need to do. If you don't believe in the saving acts of Jesus ("For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16), you might not be given eternal life. If you don't eat His body and drink His blood you may not have eternal life (""Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:53). People who say they believe in Jesus but do not show it by their works may not have the saving faith needed for entry ("Do you want to be shown, you foolish fellow, that faith apart from works is barren? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by works", James 2:20-22). St. Paul even says to a group of Christians "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;" Phil 2:12 Why would Paul tell believers in the Crucified Jesus to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling if it was already guaranteed. I don't think St. Paul believed it was guaranteed and neither should we. I used the word might quite a bit because from the way I read scripture, God always can show mercy on whomever He pleases and save them just because He wants to save them. I don't want to be like Job and have God say “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
      Tell me, if you have understanding." Job 38:4.

      Well said brother. For many years people have been trying to add to the finished work of Christ. The resurrection wasn’t the finishing of His work, it was an after effect , Jesus never sinned, He paved the way for our resurrection. I don’t understand everything about Christianity, I’ve been studying the Bible for 32 years and am still growing in my faith. Paul talks about another gospel in Galatians chap 1. Any religion that adds to His finished work on the cross is a false gospel. We cannot do anything to earn our salvation, Ephesians 2 tells us that by grace we are saved, it is a gift of God lest any man should boast. God. Less you

    Yes, we are commanded to do it - Eucharist of the remembrance of Him, but when Jesus was introducing elements to His disciples He was in His body and His blood was not yet shed. So the all doctrine of transubstantiation is not based upon the Scripture since Communion shows us the Unity of the Body of Christ, proclaims His death for the sins of the World (paid in full - Tetelestai) and His resurrection for our justification - remembrance of our emancipation from slavery to sin - likened to the exodus of children of Israel from Egypt.

      When the Lord handed down the last supper, He did so after the teaching in John 6.

    Jesus was the Lamb of God that is true
    On the moment of His death Jesus did not literally become Ovis aries, his body remained human to the very end. While he was the sacrificial Lamb that Abraham killed instead of his Son, and the lamb the Jews slain when they were in Egypt, He was never literally a lamb, neither was the Lamb in any of these situations literally Christ.
    I love the insight of the narration, but I feel it just convinced me more that during Eucharist the bread is only symbolically Christ
