This mansion was the home of Marcel and his beloved wife Petra. Marcel was originally from the city of Zurich, Switzerland where he grew up and later took over the family business of producing zinc, a highly successful company that operated out of China.
Aside from his career, Marcel was passionate about two things- his family, and the restoration of historical buildings. In fact, at the age of 50, he decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of moving out of the city and into the peaceful countryside of France… but under the condition that he find a historical manor that needed desperate renovation to restore it to its former glory. He did just that
He found 17th century mansion perched upon a hill just on the outskirts of a small, peaceful French village and he created a masterpiece from the bear bones the mansion had been for many years. After the work was completed, he started a new life with his family here and so began the next chapter of his life.
Eventually, his children all grew up and moved away to other parts of the world and so Marcel and Petra lived out their years in the home until 2010, when Petra was diagnosed with cancer and died the following year. Marcel, also battling his own health problems was now unable to walk and barley able to take care of himself.
Losing his beloved wife proved to be too much for Marcel. Battling his own set of health issues from his old age, he was now unable to walk and barley able to take care of himself, let alone deal with the loneliness that haunted him.
Surrounded by the walls he'd built for his family, they'd become hellacious reminders of the love, the joy, and the life that was once here but is now gone with the passing of time.
Not long after his wife's death, in 2013, Marcel died, alone in his house. One can only speculate he grieved himself to death.
Sadly, even though his children were to inherit the property, they've all been in a legal battle with each other for nearly a decade, unable to reach an agreement on how to divide the estate. Meanwhile, the once marvelous masterpiece their father had created now sits completely abandoned and decaying with every year that passes.
So come with me on this exploration and let's have a look at what's left inside of Marcel's home.

Thanks for all of your questions and thoughts on this place! I'm really enjoying the comments on this video so feel free to give your opinion or ask me a question!
Amazing work to show and explain Wow. Admire your explorations and talk this history.
oh bugger! I somehow lost my comment, midway!!
Here's attempt #2. I can write with ease as i'm doing it fr my laptop. There's no way I could EVER type this from a phone. 🤫
I know from your past comments, you warmly invite your subscribers to share thoughts & ask questions, so I feel comfortable doing so.
wow. This little chateau is a treat!
The deep pink tufted-velvet, curved bed head & footboard was stunningly beautiful & French. I have seen similar antique ones priced at $4500 US dollars.
I'd take that bed and the pink bedcovering and the large oval framed floral and be happy!
I'd also want the velvet chairs from the red room & maybe do them in a pretty lavender-blue if the red clashed.
All the velvets on the other beds & chairs colors were equally beautiful.
However, the one wallpaper leaving me dumbstruck was the one w/ the peacock/floral motif. (insert bug-eye emoji) in the red room.
Could you (or anyone else) tell if the pieces falling down were paper or fabric?
I'd take that pink velvet bed & bed cover, have it all professionally deep cleaned & then I'd do my walls in the peacock floral!! Happy camper!
That blue and white wallpaper with small repeated pastoral scenes was a quintessentially French design called Toile de Jouy, sounded out twall de jwee.
It comes in amazing different motifs, different colors.
The scenes usually convey a theme depicting subjects: the 4 seasons, french country/pastoral life, hunting, etc.
Do a google search of Toile de Jouy & click (google) "images" and you will see the infinite variety. It's still a well-loved design motif and manufactured today in wall papers & fabrics for home decor, clothing & accessories.
The framed lady you asked about looks to be a type of needlepoint called
petit-point (sounds like petty point) embroidery. It was a tradition for young French girls to learn this skill and continue with it into later years. They would needlepoint portraits, chair covers, framed pieces for the wall, table-top fireplace screens to protect the face, even floor rugs.
It was sad the way the owner's dream restoration is being lost to the elements.
Jeremy, There is something I want to send you which will be of immeasurable value to your work. How can we arrange this?
Thank you for another thoughtful explore!!
pam
Really enjoy watching hidden forgotten adventures & you’re attention to detail.
I have to tell you Jeremy; I started watching abandoned videos about a month ago (5 or 6 different explorers). YOU are by far the best! Your filming & narration is excellent. You don't rush thru it, you tell a great story, and you are respectful of the homes and their families. I also like that you get excited about wallpaper - LOL
I love these videos, very interesting! I love the vitorian style home
I really appreciate how gentle and respectuful you are giving us this tour
You are FINE 😮💨
I'm not sure why but I am crying like a baby watching this. The wheelchair and the bathroom made me so sad knowing the king of his castle died all alone. All that work just left to the elements. The red bedroom was beautiful and I would love to find reproduction wallpaper. Beautiful rug as well. You are great at story telling and bringing the story and home to life. Thank you my friend.
I think the great way Jeremy tells the story, makes me teary eyed too.
I think it’s the music, but don’t we all have a story to tell? Aren’t we writing it everyday. These make me realize, it’s time to clean my own house. 😉
LOL! If watching THIS makes you cry like a baby, a psychologist may be necessary.
The 1800's farmhouse with the racecar out front got me. Seeing all the stunning furniture, letters rom 1922, the mortgage docs etc. I saw it last night & cant stop thinking of it
You have so much empathy, you are an old sole and a great storyteller. So sad for the family that they chose to let the home decay.
Hi
“Soul”, not “sole”
What a beautiful, old home! I watch videos of old, abandoned houses all the time, but this one just made me feel some sort of way. I guess a little bit sad for the old fellow that owned it. It's a shame that his children have allowed their parents dream home to go to ruins, but it sure is beautiful. Great video!!!
The old man has been away too long from his family to restore other buildings. Now it just backfired!! Karma taking it's course.🤣☝️
To be so self absorbed and greedy are the children that they can't just say, "You take the home,' instead of leaving it to decay. Now no one will benefit from the mansion or continue to keep the home up in their parents' memories.
They didn't become that way in a vacuum. No idea what the problem is but parents have something to do with who their adult children become. Something as simple as too much focus on the house and not enough on the kids seems like it could prompt people to fight over the thing that was more valuable than they were. It's gorgeous, and clearly it came at a price.
@@Zarathustran 💯 agree with you. My parents have caused so much pain trying to raise me and sisters but at the same time wanted to keep their best friend (cocaine). We were brought up into a very unhealthy lifestyle it still hurts to remember trying to be a kid and growing up at the same time. Some parents hold very deep secret till they die that only the surviving kids can testify about it or choose to remain quiet. My best bet they choose to stay quiet cause remembering bring so much pain. But to each their own.
They could at least put a roof on it until they figure it out.
Well said!
No money to fix up live far away
I cried on the inside, right away. I almost turned it off. That poor old man, father, widower, totally disabled.
Yes, it did though, have a good vibe to it.
I'm glad that you can give us a bit of a story to your tours.
It really is heartbreaking to see him so proud and content in pictures and now knowing that his kids are being so disrespectful.
Everything about this house is exquisite, from the architecture to the furnishings and the wallpaper. The vibe is definitely welcoming and that speaks volumes of the love that lived there. Great explore Jeremy
. your jRe c no it was
I just found your channel a few days ago. I really enjoy seeing the old houses and castles. You have a nice, gentle way of revealing what is in the house. And you show great respect to the property and the previous people who lived there.
I don’t know how many children the owner had but if they could have all pitched in, they could have saved this lovely home and perhaps lived in it as one large family. There certainly would have been enough bedrooms and living spaces to accommodate many people. I used to watch shows like yours and stopped for awhile as no-one was that good at this until I stumbled on your videos. You are better at exploration than most who do this. Thank you for renewing my interest in these sadly nearly forgotten places. I am now subscribed and am playing catch up with your videos.
And now the kids really have nothing to argue over; the home except for a few items is worthless.
Thank you for being so respectful of these old spaces. We need more explorers out there like you ❤
19:40 those fabric pictures are called tapestries.
20:20 that is a phone table and was called a "gossip bench."
What a beautiful home that is! The owner/builder had much to be proud of. As you walked us through, I was picking out kinds of antiques that I'd love to have.
Could also just be a cross-stitch, but maybe that’s the same thing as a tapestry, just under a different name
@@katherinetoronto3951 looks more cross stich than tapestry, to me at least.
I think it’s type of tapestry called a longstitch?
Sorry, but I to say it..
Yes, dis is a castle, unt ve have many tapestries..
☝️😁
Lemme know if you get the reference..
definitely cross stitch!
What a gorgeous home. I remember two local sisters who refused to compromise on the price of their parents home. One wanted out, the other thought it was worth more than it was. It was starting to fall into decay and we were willing to buy it and fix it. We made an offer, the realtor said she would not take the offer to the daughters as it was insulting so she thought. We found something else much better right away, cheaper with more and prettier land. It had better bones. We rehabbed that home and retired to it. The home the daughters could not agree upon still sits more than 15 years later. No one bought it and its just rotting away. Its worth little or nothing now. Mother Nature is claiming it now sadly. It would be so costly to do anything with it today. So sad two siblings cant get it together.
What a treasure!!!! It’s so sad what becomes of people after someone dies! It still has the potential to be a stunning home for a new family, if they could only put the selfishness aside!
Bedankt voor de gevoelvollie en met heel veel respecte rondleiding. Je kijk op alles is prachtig om naar te luisteren en te kijken. Nogmaals bedankt.
What an infinite sadness to see this house so degraded by time, by thieves and vandals. Maybe the children didn't deserve it since they waged a legal battle to divide the inheritance. Nn have thought of the sacrifices and feelings that bound him to this home, sorry but at this point nature took its course. Greetings from Italy 👏💙
Yeah, it's always so sad to see such an amazing place go to waste over greed and sibling rivalry. Unfortunately, this is a very common reason so many places become abandoned.
@@JeremyXplores I can say: how disgusting !!! And so in the end they get what they deserve, nobody enjoys the property and even if it's bad to say it is right that nature takes its course soon. A hug 💙🍀
Beautiful home you have a lot of empathy. Very hard getting old things u can’t do anymore. Love your videos thanks again
The way you spoke about the gentleman that lived there was very touching.
People are so selfish , to let something so beautiful go to ruin is a shame.
Thank you for sharing.
Well done Jeremey I appreciate it warm compassion for the elderly! This ole man was very crippled maybe a paraplegic gentleman! You can tell he was not able to finish his dream, many rooms are construction sites! Lots of rooms for his ungrateful children!
I love how much of your heart goes into your videos. The way you describe each room I often just close my eyes and watch with my ears then I will start it over and watch with my eyes and it is so mind blowing. It makes me sad to think of those beautiful beds chairs and do on including the wallpaper just going to waste. So so sad.
My favorite part of the whole house was the balcony and the view from it....The man who owned the house seemed like a nice guy.
hi guys! I;m a little later for the party. 😁
Now, THIS is a home of exquisite taste. The place reflected owner's affiliation with the Orient, in the embroidered silks and special wallpapers.
How disappointing it must have been for man to lose his wife, have all his children living elsewhere after he was left alone and then to know the kids didn't want the home he treasured.
I love this! Such a beautiful place. Thanks for the gorgeous tour. 😌🤘🏼 please be careful
Thank you so much for taking us with you on this explore! I think the wallpaper in some of the rooms was absolutely beautiful! Also the red bedroom was extraordinary! I wish I could go to france, but alas, I don't have the money yet. Thank you Jeremy!
Jeremy, this place is absolutely gorgeous!! I loved the wallpaper throughout the house and all the antique furniture... oh my goodness, stunning 🤗💕 Thank you for taking me with you to another wonderful exploration.
Thank you so much for watching and supporting my passion for document these beautiful places. The wallpaper in this house was absolutely stunning!
Imagine how much better the homes of the ones who inherited this castle. Their homes must be amazing to just leave this all to turn to dust.
@@JeremyXplores you love the matching bed spreads with wallpaper and curtains it’s very cute and endearing of you………😊
Thank you for your reverence and your honoring of a man's life. All his hopes and dreams blossomed and ended here. It's so nice to see how delicately and beautifully you honored him and this time capsule legacy he left us.
Omgosh so excited, I love live events. Cannot wait to see this video. I absolutely love your storytelling, it’s on point!!! The way you describe these homes, I feel like it takes me back to that time and I can literally see how it was then and how beautiful it was and is. Thank you for the amazing stories.
Thank you so much, Michelle! I love storytelling and it’s something I’m constantly trying to get better at. Each of these places are incredible and their story deserves to be told
Where’s this place?
I found your channel yesterday evening, subscribed. It's very sad how homes are left to decay. I'm sure it was pristine in it's day when the family was there. Your almost whisper voice is very respectful of the places you explore, not to disturb anything. Such beautiful homes.
I've only just found these videos,,,so I started watching and I've got to say how impressed I am with you and how not only do you show the house itself you keep us informed off what your seeing as you find it,,,also I like the way you explain about the house and its last owners,, please keep up the work 😀
I loved the tour of this beautiful house and how much respect you had for it. You saw what I saw, the beauty in it still. Not to mention, how you made a remembrance of the man who had endless love for his family and home. I love to go antique shopping not only to shop but to marvel over things of old. Thank you very much.
What a gorgeous home! Thank you so much for taking us into such a treasure 🥰
You were very respectful touring the beautiful house, especially respecting the last owner, and recognizing all his work to restore the mansion. The children should have kept it up instead of walking away from it. Very sad.
Do you really think people wouldn’t take these things?!
No way.
Hard to believe
Very interesting, made even more so by your voice and your respectful way of treating the things you find... Thanks so much for this.
Another good one Jeremy! It sure makes you wonder why the kids could not agree to come together and agree on a price to sell
and divide the money between them rather than letting it decay and fall apart to be worth nothing. THIS IS SAD.
We do not know if they even had children, do we?
Thank you for the gentle and kind manner in which you present these inspections. Just love your respect for these abandoned homes 💟
Oh Jeremy , I’m truly sorry about your father, I know loss and nothing can ever take that pain away, when you lease expect it, your father will come to you, in your dreams or during a difficult situation…. I lost my 16 year old son, he was my one and only son, and he died on Easter Sunday 4/21/19 , I feel your pain, and I’m glad you made the decision to live your best life on behalf of your father, I’m 100% sure he’s looking down and he’s very proud of the man you have become… you are his legacy, when you look in the mirror, it’s your father looking back at you, smile and be proud 😊❤️♥️
I enjoy your description of rooms and pieces of furniture that you come across on these abandoned properties. You say it with such an appreciation not of it’s worth but it’s beauty. I can go along with you and feel that yes certain pieces or the lay out of certain rooms deserve to be acknowledge and noted, that beauty can be found even within ruins🌹
Thanks for bringing this video to all of us! Its truly sad the place was just left. I wonder if he owed a bunch of money or something. Or what type of relationship the kids and the parents had. But man definitely heartbreaking
Yeah I wondered all of that too. Some things we'll probably never know. Regardless, it's a shame to see such an amazing place go to waste over greed and sibling rivalry.
@@JeremyXplores you are definitely right on that. It's a shame what has happen to the home. And how it has ripped a family apart in the end. Watching another one of your videos about the school teacher with everything left behind
@@SuperDman51 That's another sad and similar story to this one. Unfortunately, it's so common for these places to be abandoned because of death and family not tending to the estate after that person is gone
@@JeremyXplores right! This is a sad one. Have you ever ran into or had any family reach out to you before doing these videos?
Preservation of some of these rooms are just incredible. Almost as if time stood still. Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for taking us on this journey and for being so respectful. It always reminds me that we can't take stuff with us when we die and family may not have the same love for our stuff that we did. Love your family and store your treasures in Heaven. Such a cool place. It's a shame that greed is preventing it from being enjoyed. I bet the man would be sad.
This explore was amazing!! It is too bad that the family couldn't just come to an agreement! And btw...I could listen to your voice forever!
Thanks so much, Cristin. It’s always a sad thing to see such an amazing places waste away because of sibling rivalry. Unfortunately it happens all the time and it’s a common reason why so many of these places become abandoned. I talk about this in a couple of my other videos as well
I love the way your imagination tells the story of their life as you enter each room. How you are feeling their energy as it takes you back In time. Just like an empath . I felt it too.
Your timing is perfect looking around and your storytelling is epic. New fan!!
I love the tenderness in your voice when you explain your investigations. Shame on the children for allowing this to happen. It could be restored to former glory.
Thank you for your beautiful work. It's wonderful that you don't leave anything behind. The importance of the people that had lived here only adds to the mystique of the home. So sad that many people only think of fighting and money after a family member passes. This home is a true work of art. So much consideration and love went into this place. Keep on keeping the past alive. It is very important.
I SO LOVED all the furniture in this mansion! AND the architecture, the rooms, the decor! All of it! Very sad that his children are letting it all rot away. You did it all justice, great job 🥰
Love these videos. Old homes are heartwarming and fill many empty voids. Maybe because I grew up in an old home. I love the sounds of wood when you are walking, the smells, and the feeling of history from other experiences. Thank you🌹
That floor pattern is called herringbone and it does bring a different feel to the room.
Herringbone! That’s it! Thank you for the information!
That Victorian looking chair with the attached drawer has me shook!! I love it! How can they just leave this beautiful home and amazing furniture abandoned??
I KNOW!! It should be a crime to leave that stuff behind
@@JeremyXplores I'm like you I love the antiques and especially beautiful vintage wallpaper!!! 💖 It's really nice to hear you appreciate the wallpaper :)
I appreciate your sensitivity and attention to who and how one lived their life in the end of time .
So very sad a family of 4 cannot figure things out very sad for the old man he can’t really rest in peace: ((
I love this one. I love that balcony, and the bedroom with the red velvet furniture.. and that wallpaper!✨
There was a sense of sadness with this one... Seeing the man's wheelchair, handicap bathtub, and his picture where he looks so happy... There's a sense of loneliness for sure
Thankyou so much for sharing and your exploration.im sure you been told already that the picture looks like a tapestry. 👍😊 thanks again. And stay safe.
This is one of the prettiest explores ever! Thanks for sharing
I love this beautiful mansion. So envious of the beauty you see on these trips. Thanks for a great video.
Wow, that place is loaded with beautiful furniture!! I LOVE the real french doors!! Such beauty in this place!! Thank you for sharing this find. It was an interesting, but sad story!! Peace, Kim ~
Excellent job in your videos, I love the explanations, the editing work, the photography and your love of exploring and history. Keep up the good work💪🏽
Thanks so much, Kimberly! I'm constantly studying my craft to improve the quality of of my videos and photography, so you have no idea how much it means to me that you've taken notice!
New subscriber- exquisite film making and your voiceover is perfect for this type of style. This tour gave me goosebumps and at the same time saddened me knowing the poor owner who passed away crippled and most likely alone 😢
Thank you for sharing this adventure with us!
Beautiful home that's just rotting away because of greed and selfishness. Thank you, Jeremy, for another great treasure we explored with you. I was kind of waiting for someone to be in there when you turned one of those corners. ❤❤❤
@jeremy. I love this channel. I’ve watched u on other channels but little did I know u are a better storyteller than they ever were. Kudo’s to u
Cool explore stunning home its a shame it just sits there to rot and fade away everyone have a great weekend
I’ve just found this video Jeremy love how you describe the exploration with lots of care.I can’t believe when someone passes the family have to be in disagreement it so sad how greedy people can be so upsetting love the video how respectful you are 👍👍👍👍
Came across your channel today & after watching a couple, I'm now subscribed. Find them fascinating with a hint of tragedy. Reminds us how fragile & temporary our lives are. It's such a shame that a once much loved home has been left to rack & ruin whilst the greedy siblings fight over the estate🙄, I think their parents would be devastated. The french beds are gorgeous & definitely original ~ what a waste
Your voice is so soothing. I can appreciate your love of architecture and design. My favorite part was the bedroom with the red chairs and beautiful teal wallpaper. Looking forward to the next video 🥰
What I really enjoy is you get the background of the home
and it helps
you have a story with the home…
Beautiful. It almost feels magical, Enchanted. Absolutely gorgeous!
Loved this explore! What a beauty! U have attention to detail in your videos, thank you, Jeremy!❤
Great tour of the home . It was so stunning to see all the furniture. I wished the relatives would come back and restore it .
Red was never my favorite color, and I thought wall paper was ick, but I am addicted to the red room. It was beautiful. And all the wallpaper in all of the homes you have shown, is magical!. The richness and uniqueness is special! Thanks.
You're a wonderful Storyteller; thank you!
Great job Jeremy! You found an absolutely lovely home to show us! Sadly, some families are very disfunctional! My heart 💔 for that dear old gentleman who died all alone! He obviously provided well for his family in his younger years.....and those children couldn't get along well enough to work together to care for him in his old age??
Terribly sad indeed.
Thank you for your great channel and hard work! Merry Christmas🎄🎁❤
Who knows that one of his children didn’t take care of him in his old age. That scenario is very common. One child does all the work and the others just live their lives and wait for their inheritance.
Maybe that child wants to keep the house in the family name and the others want to sell. Who knows.
Wow the dedication to detail that family had I hope they had many a good time and that man got to enjoy his work.
You are one of the best storytellers I have ever listened to. I just found your channel and am so glad I did.
I just LOVE your explorations Jeremy... I always loved looking at those Southern homes all fixed up with antiques and put back in "Mint Condition" as that's just so much a rarity today. Yet, your explorations are of houses, mansions that have been left dilapidated for one reason or another, yet like this one yet must have most likely Amazingly Untold History behind them...
This was such an elegant home and I like how you learned the history and acted respectfully. It looked like the majority of items inside were removed and I have a feeling that family did come for some of them. Strange how sinks and such were dismantled and rooms were in various stages of repair so I wonder if Marcel actually finished the renovations? So many questions, and did I see bowls of food upstairs in the attic? A shame the estate hasn't been settled after almost a decade. It was a beautiful tour, thank you.
So Amazing !!! Takes my Breath Away 💚
I love your storytelling. You should write a book. You are so respectful of the places you explore. You really make it an adventure!
Watching from San Francisco California
I’m enjoying watching your blog I’m in love of antique furniture which I saw a lot at your blog Keep your good job . Thanks for sharing .
How sad to let a Beautiful Home go😞😞😞😞thank you for the video ❤️👍🏻
You're a wonderful story teller.
Your words articulate like the strokes of a brush painted by it's artist, the stories of the memories stuck in time.
Great tour!
I really liked this vlog. You did a wonderful job. The fabric in one of the bedrooms you liked is called 'toile de jouy'. Have the best day ever...
So beautiful, this old house! Thank you to share with us these houses with lot of history! It seems a museum.
Thanks for the video!
There is such an awesome sensitivity to your story telling on these homes you go into. I truly enjoy your videos. And that women in the picture was a needlepoint picture. My grandmother had several in her home.
I'm really enjoying watching what you do!! looks like fun :)
Another amazing find, always love your perception ✨✨✨
This one. Just stunning. The wallpaper upstairs.❤ Absolutely amazing.
You do great work. Really enjoyed this video.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
It’s a shame 1 of he’s children wouldn’t fix up that beautiful home. The painting is called Tapestry.
Dude, great job, unbelievable find, and exploration!I subscribed to your channel which is something I don't do often lately, but did in respect to this mansion and your exploration of it!Also your comments on his wheelchair and the bathroom with Marcel's special bathtub, were a demonstration of obvious empathy that you possess, kudos to you bro.Last of all it's a shame one of his children didn't preserve the place or sell it to someone who would, but we really have no idea as to the families backstory!
The picture above the bed is a needlepoint, I have made a few and they are very cathartic to make and when you are done you get the feeling that you really made something beautiful.
You are so lucky to experience these homes. I'm an empath and it is overwhelming to watch these at times. Not a bad thing.
Jeremy this is an amazing video. L9ve your work yoy are amazing. Great vouce, so much compassion and love of others superb story telling, love love listening to you❤🎉😊
Makes me want to cry. What a shame.Beautiful, beautiful house and all the antiques ❤❤
I also have fascination for these old chateaus and it has always being my dream to live in one of them. Beautiful.
Nicely done! Thank you!
great video
Just subbed to your channel. I am really enjoying your videos, thank you!
Jeremy I like your way of describing thing. "Nature reclaiming" instead of rotting away or "how beautiful the decay". I have never thought of it like that but when you pointed out the black mold I saw what you meant and at the one of the casement windows the wallpaper had rolled back like it was the edge of a curtain. Thank you ❤
Once again absolutely loved this video🥰
