Two different tools for two different jobs. The 716 is for distance. It is accurate and in a caliber that is best suited to longer ranges. The AK family is better suited to combat at short and intermediate ranges. Troops hitting an objective with AK's while under overwatch by marksmen with the 716 would be a fine combination.

@@krishnenduray1758 A mix is preferable. It allows for a greater flexibility ,in tactical employment, by troops*. @@colonelradec5422 I wouldn't say that. The two are ,essentially, equal. The Russian philosophy of design and those followed in the Western nations differ in their doctrine of employment. The end user is the determining factor. How well and often are the troops trained? What is the logistical system like? How much maintenance can the arms expect to receive? What tactics are employed? What level of training do the troops receive? If one answers these questions, then they may select what suits them best. I am a fan of the Kalashnikov. [I have had them (in one form or another) since I turned 15....I am ,now 42] It doesn't accomplish every task I might require a firearm for. They have to be. They are designed to be inexpensive and to function no matter how bad the troops receiving them.maybtreat them. Western designs are excellent as well. They are designed around the idea that a national army will have the infrastructure to operate them. In terms of climate, my home {The State of South Carolina} is not dissimilar to much of India. We have manufacturers like FN, Palmetto State Armory* and PTR* all turning out arms that can be sworn by. Next door in The State of Georgia, Glock has had a factory for 30 years. More over the 716 is a "battle rifle" that can/should be used in a DMR config, which for some reason such channels, general public and the army think is a assault rifle which it is ABSOLUTLY NOT. The AK 203 is indeed a textbook assault rifle with the added bonus of calibre compatibility, folding stock, picatinny rails for modern optics mounting. if the indian army ends up using the 716 as an assault rifle it will be a COMPLETE WASTE of the capabilities of the SIG 716 in a DMR configuration
@@garandthomb6982 but that's not always true. That 1A1 we used was a battle rifle but not a good DMR platform. M-14 is another example although after getting rid of that wood furniture, it has seen a revival of sorts in the 2000s ...
Remember this deal is also done for Technology absorption similar to Su 30 MKi deal which lead to development of indigenous mission computer ,RWR ,MAWS ,SPJ etc....
I have no clue why people are comparing these 2 platforms, its absolute insanity. These are 2 different weapon platforms meant for 2 entirely different combat roles. the fact that ppl think AK203 vs SIG716 is a fair comparison shows how little people know about guns and their combat uses. The AK 203 is an "assault rifle" chambered in an "intermediate cartridge" of 7.62×39 meant as a standard infantry rifle. It has the advantages of AK platform muscle memory/training, muzzle device for recoil compensation, natively produced calibre, folding stock capability and as a developmental feature- Picatinny Rails for grips and optics mount. The SIG 716 is a "battle rifle" chambered in a "full power cartridge" of 7.62×51 NATO can/should be used as a designated marksman rifle (DMR). It has the advantages of the AR platform in the configuration of a battle rifle. 7.62×51 NATO "full power" for greater penetration at long range, complete Picatinny rail system to mount telescopic sights/ LPVOs for long range usage, 20rd mag to reduce weight for a "DMR" and lack for need to have a 30rd mag of 7.62NATO. To put it into perspective a logical comparison would be: The AK203 vs the AR15/ M4 (5.56×54NATO) series or IWI Galil series of rifles. The SIG716 vs the AK308 or FN SCAR-17S "Battle rifles" being used in their stock config became obsolete a lifetime ago (in part due to the introduction of the Intermediate cartridges). Nowadays its best used as a DMR with scopes/LPVOs to take advantage of the full power cartridge at a longer range. THESE 2 ARE NOT IN COMPETITION. THEY DO NOT HAVE INTERCHANGEABLE ROLES. 2 DIFFERENT COMBAT ROLES REQUIRE 2 DEFERENT PLATFORMS.
@IndianDefenseAnalysis this comparison is completely baseless and shows a lack of understanding of different rifle platforms. the SIG 716 is a battle rifle and the AK 203 is an assault rifle. 2 completely different roles for 2 completely different weapon systems. also im pretty sure the SIG716 has a rate of fire of 650 rounds per minute and the AK203 has a rate of rifle of 700 rounds per minute so thats just straight up wrong?? (how tf can a 20rd, .308 weapon have a higher rpm then a 30rd, 7.62×39 weapon?)
INDIA should NOT buy outdated ak203 version. Instead should buy more SIG 760 & our own SS DEFENCE & Israeli Tavor rifles with transfer of technology with same specs which are far better than Russian cheap stuff.
As for long range DMR type requirements, I think the Army should look at M110, HK M27, and the luxurious FN SCAR-H/SCAR-L. It might cost a bit more but it must've been aimed for selected elites, so no fuss.
The FN SCAR-L and the HK M-27 are actually Assault Rifles because they use the 5.56x45mm cartridge, which makes them less suitable for hitting long range targets effectively.
bro the SIG 716 is not supposed to be used as an assault rifle it is by definition a "battle rifle" that can/should be used in a DMR config. it is completely baseless to compare the AK 203 and SIG 716
Sig 716 recoil like hell . Difficult to aim continuously as it sway much than 5.56. Not to mention it hurt your shoulder more, like those 303 of old days. More the recoil less the concentration of aiming.
Biggest orders for crpf and bsf are given for Trichy assault rifle, no order for P72. While Ak203 is better than Trichy so i think army is doing right.
Really don't understand, why government is going to ink the AK 203 without the modern accessories just to cut the price where a lot of money is being expensed for other equipment.I think the basic weapons of our soldiers should not be compromised. Even for the sig 716 ,the scope is not included.
Sig has very high recoil so it's not actually an assault rifle it's more a marksman rifle, India currently lacks a true assault rifle and as far for OFB it's the shitiest crap. The dream of India making world class rifles will only come true with the intervention of private firms into the game and as far for SSS defence ig it was not chosen as it's not a battle proven rifle also it's unknown if the SSS defence could actually meet the deadline but anyways it's a good step indeed.
SSS defence.army commission lobby in and out and govt shoud be ashamed of themselves for giving a deal to russian rather than promoting our own company.
Since Russia is making so much fuss.....India should either go for indigenous private options or go for the Israeli Galil ACE if they want a 7.62x39mm rifle bad. The ACE is better than every 7.62x39 mm AK and has got all the features of a modern assault rifle. Israelis give value for money atleast
Yes true that the original AK-203 to be manufactured for Indian army is not the same which is circulated in social media and youtube videos. One which will be manufactured in india will be much simillar to AK-103 (go to 5:18 in video) with some improvement. Recently a new video posted by Economic Times on there you tube channel regarding AK-203. There youn can clearly see the russian instructor mentioning that the original Indian version will be slightly different than what they are displaying. One more thing to notice which no one is talking about in indian defence fourm is that the Pakistan Ordinance Factory will be manufacturing PK-21 which is a licensed varient for Russian AK-103. Russian trying to make as much as they can from Indo-pak rivalry.
But better than insas still our soldiers using insas.....atlest government should provide our sss defense guns to swat( i saw karnataka swat team on tv 1 commando was using insas ) or those guns should provide to cobra force who are fighting against naxal...
Instead of buying rifles why don't you increase the salary of frontline soldiers like in Kashmir. Spend on Increasing their morale. This is important. Instead of spending on rifles spend on designing bullets which can be used on any Indian rifles. Design heavy machine guns which can be carried to frontline.
Lets see if the Indian defense wants the Indian army look more advanced & inferior in the war conditions or doesn’t care about military development as the army is the first line of defense. The choice the defense makes will prove what kind of army they want for the country, advanced high-tech & powerful army or powerful but old tech & not superior.
Russians won’ t sell anything at a loss to India. so the unofficial information provided by you regarding AK 203 compromising its fittings at a lower price seems more logical.
An old version of an ak 203 is still better than Sig Sauer. You have to understand why India scrapped INSAS. AK is almost zero maintenance weapon it's like buying a Ford for cheap but then you find you do not have get spares anywhere when your car breaks down. 100 crore was the dearness assessed by our CAG over life of our million soldiers however same institute is silent over mega project of bullet train. It doesn't find that project or in fact statue of unity a least bit waste of public money but arming our soldiers at the border with somewhat advanced weapons is oh TOO COSTLY.

And do we rally feel that we can face a threat like China solely based on imported systems that are so costly that we can't acquire them in numbers 🤔?
@@prateekshrivastava7836 i heard that DRDO fired one gun for 38 km range but it fell 25 km in village. Thanks god it didn't have live ammunition.
@@Robdua1968 OK so we should keep importing weapons for eternity then right?
@@prateekshrivastava7836 I was tell about Insas rifles of OFB not DRDO. This rifle killed many Indian soldiers. For 70 years no manufactured rifles and now producing one after another without any trial in real life situations. It is better to use proven rifles as it will be used in lakhs.

The footage in this video is a different version of the Sig 716. We bought the Sig 716i tread, which has a longer handguard and direct impingement system. And surprisingly, the Sig 716 is even cheaper than INSAS, so it is a very affordable rifle. If we procure it in large numbers, it will become even cheaper.
you forgot to mention that SIG 716i is a marksman rifle, not Assault rifle
@@AnIndianPatriot I think india is going for Battle rifle style
@@joshuajoaquin5099 Indian Army has ordered 6 lakh AK 203 so they are mainly wanting an assault rifle
What is the current status of AK 203 Deal.
SIG-716 is a superior weapon..and the best it is much cheaper too..AK-203, is much more expensive..
I love SSS defense guns❤️
716 is better than 203
Two different tools for two different jobs.
The 716 is for distance. It is accurate and in a caliber that is best suited to
longer ranges.
The AK family is better suited to combat at short and intermediate ranges.
Troops hitting an objective with AK's while under overwatch by marksmen with the 716 would be a fine combination.
soldiers should be adapted to one system , they will be more efficient if they use one system continuously , switching over one system to another creates a problem . army should go for sig sauer ,since its a good rifle , instead of buying russian crap sig sauer should be made standard assult rifle for the infantry .
@@krishnenduray1758 A mix is preferable.
It allows for a greater flexibility ,in tactical employment, by troops*.
AK's can be effective out to 700 (+) in the right hands ,but aren't good at longer ranges. A dedicated DMR is great out to (and beyond) 1,000 meters. In confined spaces they suffer...and so does anyone nearby.
No ,one, tool can doo all jobs.
* Using similar (looking) small arms ,is, a bonus. It makes it harder to identify the troops with the DMR.
@@schrodingersgat4344 That's true
@@krishnenduray1758 Russian weapons are actually better than the ones made in the West as they are way more reliable. What's the use of a rifle that won't work in the harsh Indian environment?
@@colonelradec5422 I wouldn't say that.
The two are ,essentially, equal.
The Russian philosophy of design and those followed in the Western nations differ in their doctrine of employment.
The end user is the determining factor.
How well and often are the troops trained? What is the logistical system like? How much maintenance can the arms expect to receive? What tactics are employed? What level of training do the troops receive?
If one answers these questions, then they may select what suits them best.
I am a fan of the Kalashnikov. [I have had them (in one form or another) since I turned 15....I am ,now 42]
It doesn't accomplish every task I might require a firearm for.
That's why my home has several rifles and pistols from which I may select what is most appropriate.
The same is true when scaled up for a national military.
Russian weapons are excellent.
I'd trust any of their products.
* PSA manufactures AK's and AR-15/M-16 families of Rifles
* PTR makes a line of Heckler and Koch based rifles.
The Sig Sauer 716 is superior to the AK-203.
Why are you even comparing the two? The 203 isn't even ready.
How hard is to copy these rifles, I can't understand why we can't do it
I have no clue why people are comparing these 2 platforms, its absolute insanity.
To put it into perspective a logical comparison would be:
The AK203 vs the AR15/ M4 (5.56×54NATO) series or IWI Galil series of rifles.
The SIG716 vs the AK308 or FN SCAR-17S
"Battle rifles" being used in their stock config became obsolete a lifetime ago (in part due to the introduction of the Intermediate cartridges).
OFB is worst organisation for making weapons
Because it's government department
It should be private like tata
India likes an Original Sig 716 from US not duplicate.
Can you make a video on astr defense, indra gun. Which was made by a young entrepreneur of India.
Noted..
FN Scar has quality problems...but HK products are good.
The FN SCAR-L and the HK M-27 are actually Assault Rifles because they use the 5.56x45mm cartridge, which makes them less suitable for hitting long range targets effectively.
@@sumitd500 Also, the FN SCAR is just expensive AF.
bro the SIG 716 is not supposed to be used as an assault rifle it is by definition a "battle rifle" that can/should be used in a DMR config. it is completely baseless to compare the AK 203 and SIG 716
@@colonelradec5422 DMRs were never meant for hitting long distances anyway.
Trichy assault rifle is a copy of bulgarian AR-M1F rifles in service with Indian army.
@@sahilnegi4071 i know that.but it's getting very big number of orders from central forces.
Really don't understand, why government is going to ink the AK 203 without the modern accessories just to cut the price where a lot of money is being expensed for other equipment.I think the basic weapons of our soldiers should not be compromised.
Even for the sig 716 ,the scope is not included.
India should use 3D printing technique and alternate techniques to study ballistic characteristics for speedy design validation
we should drop the ak plan then. sig seems better in almost all aspects and easier to acquire for army

We should buy more sg716 riffel more competitive .
Sss defense trichi rifle is same as ak203
What a shame - they are complicating an already complex supply chain.
They should've bitten the bullet and gone with Sig completely.
You are not aware that SIG 716 supplied at India is having only semi Automatic mode ! Please correct.
SSS defence.army commission lobby in and out and govt shoud be ashamed of themselves for giving a deal to russian rather than promoting our own company.
Get only urgent requirements one and design fast track locally
Since Russia is making so much fuss.....India should either go for indigenous private options or go for the Israeli Galil ACE if they want a 7.62x39mm rifle bad. The ACE is better than every 7.62x39 mm AK and has got all the features of a modern assault rifle. Israelis give value for money atleast
No one can match USA production
And one more thing i belive that the most advance AK is IWI galil Ace
Absolutely Kunal 👍
Bhai kab banegi ak 203. 3 Saal se sun rahe h
Thr Sig dosen't have a rotating bolt.
Buy sss defence or ishapur assault rifle based on slr
Why obf can't produce an effective rifle like sig
Ye ek aur video ka topic hai 😁
OFB has this same AR 10 on which the SiG 716 is based on sample since 1957.
They and DRDO are so dumb that they cant even copy it.
@@IndianDefenseAnalysis 😃
Russians won’ t sell anything at a loss to India. so the unofficial information provided by you regarding AK 203 compromising its fittings at a lower price seems more logical.
Whatever happened to INSAS rifles? Indian Army not supporting India made weapons? Does it not want to work with the OFB factory that makes those guns.
OFB = Delay + Delay + delay + Delay + Delay + BAD QUALITY !
So why is govt not interested in manufacturing sig saug gun in India
Why is it a good idea to arm the Frontline troops with a semi auto rifles instead of full auto asult rifles?
Because range and lethality matters at frontline. In close quarter combat its rate of fire, light weight, less recoil and easy handle matters.
Both are better then the insas shit we use
Why India can't produce it's own rife??...the same money can be used in R&D...why still relay on other countries for a primary weapon???
The Chinese, American make their own weapon, Why India not able to make her own riffle.

When it comes to assault rifles, American are far ahead of the Russian
Nope. American hardware is high maintenance, finicky yet accurate. The AK is maintanence free but more or less accurate up to 300 mtrs. One cannot really hit beyond that with open sights anyway.
@KJM not many agencies use M16s anymore. If you mean the AR platform, it's not fragile per se but it's a platform that is certainly high maintenance and better used by highly trained troops who can get the optimal usage out of it.
Sigs, Barreta, Colt, FN Herstal, H&K are the companies we should go for emergency procurements.
And for the permanent solutions our own companies are the only go to option. And yes SSS Defence seems to be the pioneers here.
Sig recoil is a little high to handle
Yes it is.. and with Indian LMG round it will be even more.
Cut down the barrel length and it will be extremely violent because it uses the most powerful 7.62X51 round.
True
@Chitragupta even the range reduces with the a cut down barrel. SiG has 16.5 inch barrel. The 7.62X51 round was designed around 21 inch barrel.
