That's a pity about the tiles, I did mention this during the KS as I printed out the PnP and they were so dark that I had to outline all of the paths with a silver sharpie. I assumed that this was just because I printed them out too dark but apparently not.
Did demo at GENCON 2018. It was mentioned that 2nd edition was coming to retail and that the tiles would be a brighter print. Another on point review Zee
I missed the KS but have played this one on Tabletopia a lot. I’ve played it with all player counts 2-6 and haven’t had any issues there. Of course I didn’t experience the component quality issues. All said though, my group loves this game; it’s one of the few everyone seems to enjoy.
What do you think of this game vs The Cave by Adam Kaluza? They seem to share a theme, with a difference in a coop vs competitive gameplay mentality.
I’d never heard of this game until tonight, when I played it for the first time. It wasn’t bad! I was pleasantly surprised.
This is how board game reviews should be
A very helpful review, Zee - thanks!
why are all the games i want from kickstarter and it already over so i cant get it. like WTF why is this 25$ game 200$ on ebay
The tile rack is only there as a kickstarter stretch goal. It was a bit last minute I think
I think I’ve heard somewhere that the components of this game are visible in the dark. Is it really so? If it is, it could explain some problems with the prints and the stand for the tiles
UV fluorescent titles and an UV flashlight that make everything visible in the dark, I think is pretty nice to add atmosphere in the game.
I have the deluxe version and I'm not sure If because of that my components are amazing. UV printing, thick cardboard for the tiles and whatnot... But it is indeed a bad graphic design choice of dark blue against black - gives poor contrast and you can't differentiate right away some details on them.
Great review, thank you!
A very fair sounding review. As Geoffrey mentioned before me there are player and horror minis which might be what you're looking for to replace the horror tokens.
However I quite liked the horror tokens with the designers explanation that originally they'd purposely not designed the look of the horrors so as to leave them to your imagination.
Played it solo a few times on Tabletopia and really enjoyed it - I do worry though that it might suffer from sometimes players not really being able to do much or one player taking over by making suggestions for everyone (as happens when my gaming group plays Pandemic).
Has anyone who's played it multiplayer come across those issues?
I got my KS copy already. Love the game itself, but the production of the tiles is horrible. As Zee said, they are way too dark and if you are playing under normal living-room lighting or have bad eyesight, you're going to have a tough time playing, let alone enjoying, this game. Also the matte finish on the tiles scratches very easily and makes them too easily identifiable from the back. I will say though, the mechanics of this game is a lot of fun. We play it a lot, but we stick with our print-and-play tiles so we can see what we are doing.
Can’t wait for it to ship.
How has no one mentioned the similarity of this to Room 25? I'm not implying it's a knock off version or anything, but Room 25 is very cool. Chaotic and random, but still pretty epic. Worth checking out if this interests you.
I liked this game but sub terra 2 is better in every way. Can't wait for it to be out physicially
Edit: I specifically think the basic core game to ST1 one is just okay. Ive never played with the expansions, but the core game alone of ST2 is amazinf
? I personally MUCH prefer the theme and art style of the first one, but will see how well the gameplay is for ST2 when I receive it.
Is this just a remake of the Cave?
Have you lost weight? Looks good.
Just purchased the Deluxe Edition, pretty pricey, hope it's worth the money.
Zee, you have to review Sub Terra II. It looks even better than Sub Terra. Here's the kickstarter campaign:

So who is here because of Trey Parker?
Zee... this game looks very interesting! I love tile laying games. Who puts out this game? How much? How does it compare with "Forbidden Desert" or "Forbidden Island?"
I think I like it.
Reminds me a bit of The Night Cage
Looks like it plays the same as DungeonQuest to me.
Should have backed the KS zee, much better components. You get minis for the players and horrors, the lack of quality in the tiles worries me a bit though, because you have to shuffle them every game, also WTF is that tile holder what a complete waste of money printing that, was never mentioned in the KS campaign either, i agree that goes straight in the bin.
Should be $20 cheaper.
Wildly overpriced.
Mixed bag......... =X
So this is the movie The Descent made into a game. Nice
Thank you
