- Sandomierz is easily one of the most magical cities in Poland, being one of the oldest it has a fascinating history making it one of the most significant cities of early Poland, it is full of activities to engage any tourist, it offers some beautiful natural gorges to explore and you have easy access to the Pepper mountains nearby...which are the oldest mountains in Poland! This is definitely a must see location in the incredible country of Poland, learn all about Sandomierz here!

Zawsze jak ktoś mówi, że jest z Podlasia, to okazuje się, że jest z Mazowsza albo Małopolski :D Koleżanka z pracy pochodzi z Grajewa (województwo podlaskie). Uważa się za Podlasiankę :D Jest to o tyle śmieszne, że nie rozumiem ludzi, którzy tak niewiele wiedzą o swoim heimacie.

@@britinpoland2392 That's what I'm talking about. Suwałki is not located in Podlasie. They are located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. A subtle difference. Suwałki is the Suwałki region, i.e. one of the historical regions of Lithuania. This region is currently divided between Poland and Lithuania.
The names of Polish voivodeships are complete nonsense. There are plans to improve this.

Sandomierz looks good in spring and summer. When it's cloudy, all the colors of Sandomierz fade.

Długosz was not the first Polish historian. There had been a few others before him.
The internet says, well Wikipedia that he is ‘considered’ Poland’s first historian, could you cite some of the older historians?
@@britinpoland2392 For example Gall Anonim (Gallus Anonimus - 12th c.) or Wincenty Kadłubek (12th/13th c.).

Planowałem odwiedzić kiedyś Sandomierz po kilkunastu latach od ostatniej wizyty, ale zachęciłeś mnie żeby to zrobić w przyszłym roku. Wielu z tych miejsc nie widziałem np trasy podziemnej. Na pewno wybiorę się do pobliskiego Opatowa no i zamku Krzysztopór w Ujeździe.
I’m trying to figure out a way to the castle without a car 😅
Even the closest towns by train are quite far from it 😢
Opatów is on my list for the future 😊

In World war 2, Krakow was saved by the Soviet Army and today, Krakow is a World Heritage site but who remembers the huge Russian sacrifice? Warsaw was flattened, the Russians say they had to regroup, the Polish say it was a deliberate political act-who knows where the truth lies?
If they had liberated us, we would have been free.

Pamiętasz jak pisaliśmy o tym, że Polska to środek wszystkiego i tu krzyżują się wszystkie drogi i wpływy? No to masz na to odpowiedź. Sandomierz to zdecydowanie miasto dla historyków i tak masz rację trochę przypomina Oxford (też tam byłem) swoim klimatem i ilością historycznych budowli choć nie jest miastem uniwersyteckim. W Polsce bliżej do Oxfordu jest Toruniowi bo to też stare miasto uniwersyteckie choć zabytków ma zdecydowanie mniej niż Oxford.
W Sandomierzu to mają muzea od wszystkiego. Jak tak dalej pójdzie to za parę lat będą mieli muzeum amerykańskiego hamburgera bo niedaleko stacjonują Jankesi. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I taka ciekawostka, wiesz, że Mieszko I (pierwszy władca Polski, który jeszcze nie był królem) handlował z Imperium Rzymskim białymi niewolnikami czyli swoimi współplemieńcami, których dziś zapewne nazwalibyśmy Polakami. Piszę o tym na marginesie śladów rzymskich znalezionych na tym terenie bo tam przebiegał jeden ze szlaków handlowych na północ, a w tamtych czasach ówczesne państwo Polan handlowało intensywnie z Rzymianami zbożem, bursztynem i innymi dobrami.
Sandomierz jest położony nad Wisła, a Wisłą spławiano łodzie, które płynęły z wszelkimi dobrami aż do Gdańska i żegluga odbywała się w obydwie strony, a Sandomierz był wtedy węzłem handlowym i na tym też się wzbogacił ze względu na swoje położenie geograficzne i stąd tak duże nagromadzenie zabytków w tym mieście. Pozdrawiam.
P.S. piszę po polsku bo po angielsku wciąż robię za dużo błędów. 😂😂😂😂

That’s a good point comparing Toruń with Oxford, I’d say Krakow also had a lot in common too! Thank you for the extra historical information, it is always useful to know more context and facts than guidebooks and the internet can provide 😊
@@britinpoland2392 Tak, Kraków jest historycznie bliższy Oxfordowi bo powstał 197 lat później ale mnie chodziło o to, że Oxford i Toruń to porównywalne wielkością małe miasta z uniwersytetami, a Kraków to duże miasto. 😊

@@britinpoland2392Jeszcze ci coś napiszę. Byłem w Oxfordzie gdzieś tak w 1983 roku (byłem wtedy studentem i był to wyjazd z moją uczelnią na krótki kurs językowy) i bardzo mi się to miasto podobało. Wtedy Oxford jawił mi się jako wspaniałe miasto potęgi brytyjskiej wiedzy i kultury. Bardzo podobały mi się dziedzińce wydziałów i stroje wykładowców czyli togi (mam nawet zdjęcie z kimś w takim stroju) ale najbardziej interesowała nas wtedy angielska trawa. Staliśmy chyba z godzinę nad jednym takim trawnikiem i rozprawialiśmy o podłożu czyli ziemi i metodzie uprawy angielskiej trawy. Ten wspaniały trawnik pamiętam do dziś. ☺☺

Oxford is a beautiful place and well kept, I bet it doesn’t look too different from back then except for a change of shops in the centre! It’s always been a bit of a time capsule 😅
Though it’s a very two sided city, most people only see the beauty in the centre…at night that centre can get quite rough when people get drunk, also many estates in Oxford are very dangerous, there is a massive wealth gap there 🙁
