This video was sublime. I greatly enjoyed the zen of it all. I liked reading your description of the events surrounding this video. I saw the video before I read your description so I just thought it was an automated camera. Kudos for sticking through the rain to get this!
I love these types of shots. I like it to be at least a grey day because it makes every light clearly visible regardless of the angle yet you can still see the train and other surroundings. Thanks for the sacrifice, Bill!
@cool29801 Thanks for that. An older one of mine is SD quality is" Squall Line July 10, 2008 Chicago area" Another in HD is "Approaching Storm on June 18, 2010" Bill
This is a wonderful storm video. I can't believe there are only 10,000 views, should be more like 100,000 views. I appreciate the effort in making this but please tell me, how do you prevent water damage to your camera in weather like this without covering it with something that would make for a noisy soundtrack? Thank You for such an interesting viewing Bill.
@Rocketboy1950 Hi. Thanks for watching. I mentioned in the description that it was not shot through the car window. That's water on the camera lens. Too bad you can't post your video response. Bill
This is now my desktops background! (dreamscene) I can't find any videos with a storm and still camera.. This one is pretty good though, minus the trains. Nice footage still.
@mcresq65 Thanks for watching. I do have a "boot" that can be used for rain protection, but I didn't think I'd need it with the camera set up in the car. I didn't plan on those gusty north winds. Camera's OK though. Bill
Well done but I don't know why you shot through the wet glass.........wel I do really :-) I was going to post a response but the silly system won't let me go back far enough in my videos. It's called Australia ; Freak storm and it has hail instead of lightning plus a really old EMD unit.
@basicbill1 My apologies for not reading the description. I often get peeved when people ask me something that I have clearly described and here's me doing it.
awesome video really good in every sense good job make more how about a blizzard or snowstorm video just saying keep up the good work thanks for posting it :-)
I've watched this video numerous times and still love it. Once again thanks for posting it.
Wow, thanks!
Bill
Same here. There’s just something I love about a Metra train being in a thunderstorm. I know it sounds stupid, but I don’t know what it is.
Awesome video! The weather sure does add a whole new dimension to train watching!
Alex
The gates go down up for 1 minute ! Nice vid,Bill... Love the sound of the storm and the Metra!

A lovely mood video! Shame you let the camera lense get soaked, those light flares were very distracting.

A good question. I have no idea.
Bill
@xrecon815 Yes it certainly was.
Bill
