Honestly with all the competition for Tourist Sauce, the NLU Championship and matches. It's really refreshing to see these guys just play a relaxing care free scramble
Soly going full-tanimal is appreciated
After a week of playing championship links courses in 2022. Playing the Castle course with a few friends was a genuine joy.
It’s a fantastic, fun course. Perfect for matchplay. Brilliantly designed as a contrast to the other courses at St. Andrews.
After watching the video, it’s clear the guys got it too….
As a caddy here, I’ve spent a lot of time on the course and it’s hard to get sick of the place, amazing views and the golf course feels different every time you play/go around.
Studied for my PhD at St Andrews and played the castle a good few times--I get why people who want the 'links' experience don't love it, but as a 'fun' round of golf to me it's pretty great.
I played the Castle Course in July ‘24 and my immediate takeaway that it’s renown would be completely different if it wasn’t part of the Links Trust and compared to the Old and New Courses. It’s fun. It’s hilly. It’s not links and that’s ok. Its views are spectacular and well worth your time. The greens looked bumpy in the video (shot in early April, I think) but I recall them being smoother in when I played. We had a delicious meal in the clubhouse afterwards. Our wives walked from town and met us at the course. All in all, it was a really wonderful day.
The conditions are usually excellent--and like you say it's a complete different animal to the links courses, but it's still a blast to get out on and play. If you're coming from abroad, however, I could see why this type of course might not be on your list, and you will likely have access to these types of 'faux-links' coastal courses in your home country, whereas your probably won't have access to 150 year old traditional links. I live in Edinburgh and was fortunate enough to do my PhD at St Andrews, so played all the courses a good amount of time, and there were some days where I was way more keen to go play the Castle than the Old even.
Nice video. Enjoyed watching as much as you seemed to enjoy playing. More of these please
Congrats on silencing the haters. Great video
Played the Castle course back in June. Had a blast hitting the approach shots into those greens. Missed the ballot for the old course so it was a last minute add to the trip and played the Jubilee in the afternoon. The links golf is great, but the Castle course is a great way to mix it up
Great fun and that is a course that makes you smile a lot. Definitely not Mickey mouse but sure it's not "traditional". Great addition to St Andrews I reckon.
The way DJ gets so precise about his lines and numbers while being such an unprecise ball striker is a lot like breaking out the chains to measure a first down after a terrible spot
It's definitely a course that gets more enjoyable the more you play it. Did not appreciate the blind shots on the first go around. Oh, and very cool to see my Dad's house across the road from the 5th on the flyover.
Maybe is the Tom wahh. Maybe it's the boys downplaying, but this place looks so so fun. Looks like the kind of place you could play 10 times in 10 different formats and still want to try it again
Scrambles really work, great viewing
Course looks pretty dope IMO.
I'm only five minutes in but very interested in what you think of this place, i personally liked it but I understand why people complain about the greens as I played it on a fast bouncy dry day and found some of the greens impossible to hold but like I said really enjoyed myself there and also the courses next door at The Fairmount were fun (to be fair golfing always fun no matter where you play), right back to it to see what you thought 😀
Edit: just finished watching and you guys summed it up pretty spot on, you enjoy it even more when them greens firm up 🙂
Heading to Scotland tomorrow, have Gullane and Castle Course on the itinerary, perfect timing! Will of course be rocking the NLU gear!
Fun video and scramble was a great idea. Moderate wind really helps. Played in July in 30 mph wind with stronger gusts. Close to unplayable for most in that wind. Would provably not recommend playing instead of the other courses. Had it included with Old Course in a package.
1080p max quality ? What year is it ?
Played here in late august. Tough doesn't begin to describe it
Where can I get that FJ hoodie? I can’t find it online.
Boosting plz and thx😢
Am I crazy or does this place look not that bad and kinda fun?
I mean, it's sitting on top of some of the best land on the planet for golf. The floor starts pretty high.
@@CrispyGFX Castle doesn't sit on links land. Its on the side of a cliff well above the ocean and the entire property slopes significantly down towards the club house. Was old farm land.
Still great soils but Castle isn't similar land to the St. Andrews Links.
Looks like a very cool course.
Its a very enjoyable course and well designed imo. 17 is great and if the wind is up you need to really think in places……
I loved it when I played there
Castle Stuart with the greens turned upto 11 was my take playing this place.
The Castle is a totally different experience in St Andrews and if you treat it as such you'll get the best of it. Now to the important stuff, where we getting that FJ hoodie Soly? Can't see these anywhere?
Go back to Sweetens Cove and have a competition!
I thought you guys were going to play places like Kinghorn and Aberdour? A bit more off the beaten track. Looking forward to that too!
Salt of the earth. Met these guys at the Darwin. Best golf content period.
Played in Sept 2023. Just started the video and interested to hear what NLU thinks of this unique course.
Drink everytime the boys say “haters”
The haters were furious following that performance
Think I need to see DJ try out the “Thai spinner”…
The ball never seems to go as far as the Quad says it does in these videos--is that just me? I know there is wind obviously etc. but it seems fairly consistent.
Soly not wearing blue? Was he feeling OK?!
I get the feeling that the confidential guide is a burn book on all the sites that Doak didn’t win the business for. The losses that hurt him most are all rated low.
Polarising format for a polarising golf course
Soly hits a wedge a little heavy…
Most would say “get on”
Some would say “get tight”
Soly says “go in”
Ball lands 30 ft short
😂
"Haters" count: 569
Haters request: shot tracing on DJ's 16th
Glad the haters started to ask to see some cups hit on number 7. Randy would have hated to see all those gimmes taken.
Loved this video. Although, surely you need to be hitting 18 cups in a scramble. Randy would not approve
+1 Large Randall probably watched in agony with the lack of cups hit.
Great change of pace from the other competitive content. More of this. Suck it haters! lol #lookingatyouben
Fine course to fill a day while in town. But it wouldn't be worth flying over an ocean to play just it.
Playing a scramble in Scotland should be grounds for deportation and permanent ban from the country.
If you didn’t get a haggis roll and Tom Morris Lager at the turn, did you even really play the Castle Course?
good course they are playing forward tees i would suggest all play forward tees, this can be a brute and unfair in wind and off back tees,
They are playing blue which are one forward from the backs. In order of long to short, it goes black, blue, grey and then green.
@@jamiebanks8213 member mate , its a course we locals dinna play much as like 5 - 6 hour rounds. place is trying too hard to be kingsbarns and its far from that, blues indeed but they look forward to the usual in this video
@@charliesworld90 member as well, I also caddy during the season here, easily 5 hour rounds and it’s painful.
Rainbows??? Really??? NLU has gone WOKE!!! ; )
Soly not taking his hat and cap off at the end to shake hands. A European would never. You just don’t do that.
I went on a trip to scotland in September and played 10 rounds this was my least favourite of the courses.
This is what TC sounds like from an NLU viewer perspective:
"The course is uneventful, simply boring holes, lacking any good design. The fits from everyone looked like trash, just zero style involved. The actual golf was not good and the swings were horrible. Lastly, the commentary was exhausting. Where was Tommy for this and why wasn't he playing?!"
Maybe you should watch the video! Bc that certainly wasn’t my takeaway, Tom! 🫶 #BlessUp
@@troncarter2056 Yes Tron I know, it was an impression of you but from the perspective of criticizing this video showing what you sound like after every tour event. It was too meta of a comment, but the point still stands. I'm still not sure if your takes are a character bit or actually you... 😐
@@Tom_Swift I find plenty of positive to chat about, even if professional golf, and specifically the PGA Tour, continues to serve up frequent shit sandwiches. Call it as I see it. In the meantime, work on your impressions.
@@troncarter2056 Alright, dumb troll comment argument aside, you legitimately complain about every single golf course on tour and the majors. Simply unreasonable.
Soly remains the most unlikable guy in NLU, possibly in golf.
Great watch when it’s muted. JFC
The wHOLE point of the game of golf is to get a small ball into a small HOLE. Why pick it up 2ft from the hole because your assuming you’ll knock it in. I fully get it In a match play situation because it’s sportsmanship and also can be used tactically but other than match play you should ALWAYS be finishing ur putts IMO
Hater
These guys drive it 40 yards off line, there's absolutely no way they're missing 2 and 3 footers...
It is simply not that serious...
@@triplea_1947 it is in the UK , where real golfers reside. Obviously a USA thing. Melts.
@@teaknote175 Okay dude. I get it, Scotland invented golf. My point was, people can play golf however the hell they want!
