Mangalore "Akkammakka" Baba, it is not an hotel The name itself spells it is an anwartha nama, as per tulunadu glorious culture "akka-amma-akka" *akka* stands on prefix and suffix at the same moment *amma* stands in the middle, imagine youself. The founder woman so humble, loyal, sincere, words found insufficient to narrate her virtue. Concludingly, it is our own tulunadu home for having Breakfast, Lunch and Night mean as prepared and served by our own homely family!!!
Wow - 130 years old eatery - The very fact that the eatery still has diners is a true testament to their quality . Kudos to your FL team and yourself to bring us such unique experience 🙏🙏 ! Hats off to Akkamaka family and staff - 5th generation and going strong 👍👍🙏 ! What a fab gesture by the family to help the needy 🙏🙏 ! Eating out of a banana leaf has got its own charm ! Reasonable prices too . True value for money ! Mouth watering plate of Thali with the Fish fries 😋 ! Thoroughly enjoyed the Vlog dear Kripal!! Thanks a bunch once again for enlightening your digital family on some hidden gems 💎! Much respect to everyone at Akkamakka’s eatery and special thanks to Food Lover’s TV 👍👍🙏🙏🌟🌟
Being a Bengali myself I am just voraciously relishing these manglorean fish meals virtually of course . Those bones will pose no hindrance to our palate as well . Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
130 yrs and still going strong, amid the mushrooming of hundreds of other swanky hotels . Reasonable prices is what makes the patrons visit here. Well known hotel since ages, though haven’t been there. @kripal sir, thank you .
@Kripal sir thanks for exploring this 130 year old establishment as it is the only few legendary establishments left in Mangalore which is carrying forward the legacy of Mangalore...Hoping to see you explore many more of them as your coverage of this establishment will definitely benefit it in the long run
I laughed a lot when Kripal sir said Arabai instead of Yerabai. Arabai in Tulu means to Yell. The family running the establishment couldn't control their laughter either. 😂
Mangalore has been a long pending on the list. Been to Udupi in 1996 for office work and still remember the fish fry I had that time. I wonder if anyone can confirm if there exist a beach name "Wadabandeshwar" in and around Udupi? This name is carved in my memory since then (25 yrs now) and I wish to be there again. Lovely food Kripal - and thanks a ton for showcasing such an old establishment along with that age old license issued by then ruling government.
The place were I spent my 90% of childhood in the hotel as a neighbor and it's a one of the lifetime best hotel compared to any of the fish hotel in Mangalore. The Hotel Akkamakka & Aithappa Compound is an emotion for us ❤️😘. Owner, service provider, cleaner, chef etc everything is taken care by thier whole family members. I guarantee you that they don't add tasting powder, baking soda, no food color. Instead they provide you deep fried fish in pure coconut oil. Indeed it's one of the best hotel owned and operated by Shetty's in Mangalore, guys please visit and feel the taste located in exact Hampankatta, Mangalore. 100% guarantee you that will find pure homely environment in a traditional way. 🙏 Location: Near Hampanakatta Signal, next to Kulyadikar cloth stores - parking available near hotel. Thank you for this video 🙏
I'm pure vegetarian..But watching this video just because I like the way you taste food. Kannada in your accent is ultimate😍. As we know you born in Mangaluru please learn our Tulu language also😬😀😊
My childhood hotel, unlimited rice during our time,I am saying this before seeing the video.I used to stay at st aloysious loyola cottage, sports hostel.we walked in the evenings to the hotel to get our non veg feed,as we were eating at the veg hostel facility .
Kripal, Saudi is hilsa that teh Bengalis relish. Areybaai saudi is another variety of the same fish, which is slightly broader and flatter. BTW, I'm visiting this place on Sunday. Thanks for this video.
I hope Akkamakkas eatery will continue to serve thier customers for many manu years to come cant find sucheateries in bigger towns should support such eateries legacy should continue God BLESS
For sure this place should be preserved for next generations.. and new generations should learn these recipes and not forget .. our previous generations had a very good scientific thinking along with lot of humanity never did something for money alone .... we lack both these days ..
I remember my grandfather narrating about days back in 1930s when travelling to Mangalore from Udupi covering just 60 kms used to take an entire day. One had to travel a day before to attend anything on a specific day. So when my grandpa used to reach Mangalore in the evening he used to stay in Akkamakka's budara for the night. A 'paje' (mat) to sleep on the floor was provided. Kudos to the family for continuing this legacy and also to Kripal for showcasing this legacy to the world.
During Akkamma's days numerous students used have breakfast, lunch and dinner in monthly basis on very nominal humankind charges. Students those who had had food are serving in different walks of life around the world, which now a days team cannot identify but students on those days had food are kept in mind. It is an ancistors and Tulu dharma daivas blessed place.
10 years before i was frequent visitor of this akkamakka hotel....nowadays its interior fully changed......i hope the taste of curry is remain same.....love to eat their.....
Price seems extremely reasonable for non vegetarian fish meals and dishes. Even vegetarian meals and dishes cost a lot more than this. Regret being a vegetarian🥲
@@QueenGurmehar No I don't have any regrets being vegetarian. That was just a sarcastic way of telling how vegetarians are spending more on food these days which is surprising actually.

True that, Abhishek, the experience is rather homely.

Well, it is not pond fis! The fis is from the sea! I have been with many Bengalis, and they always complain that they do not get pond fis.
Really proud to be a mangalorean.
