Yes! This is awesome. I was going to (painfully) try and make a video of my own on this, based on a few reader questions... but this does a better job of explaining this process than I could do. Ha! going to share this with a few people now.
Excellent! The best tutorial for this I have found. You made sure to explain the after details that are extremely important to get the migration done properly. Thank you
Hi, do you have any advice for blogs with over 1,000 pictures. I have followed your steps but I am missing a lot of content and pictures when I have exported onto .org. Thanks in advance
Can anybody help me . I was thinking over to monetise my .com site. But it is expensive and some restrictions. So I am also planning to shift to .org. I have following query. 1. How long it will take to get ad sense etc approval if I shifted to .org 2. Does shifting from .com to .org affect google ad-sense policies. 3. What happen to my existing traffic ? Currently I am using free wordpress.com site with 200-400 average web traffic per day. I have no monetisation plan as of now since its a free subdomain by wordpress.com
Anything connected to wordpress.com plan likely won’t carry over. Granted a lot of the features that are paid on Wordpress.com are standard in Wordpress.org sites.
I did the same thing, but I only 2 of my 84 posts were successfully imported. I had 2 .xml files (3.4mb, 0.2mb) and I uploaded both of them. My .org site is hosted with Bluehost. I have tried re importing so many times, but my full 84 posts are not showing up. I really do not know what to do.
@@SmartWP Hi Andy, I managed to get all the posts imported by exporting in batches of 2 months. Even though the posts are imported in, the media gallery is not imported but I am still able to see the attached media in my posts. But how come there isn't the full set of media in my media gallery?
Also...what if you just cancel your 1st site? And then start all over on the .org? Would you be able to have the same name if the 1st site is deleted/unsubscribed?
If you buy a domain name through wordpress.com I believe you can send it to a self hosted server. That being said I don't think you can get a yousite.wordpress.com url for a self hosted (.org) site.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I tried exporting all content together, but for me doing it one by one is helping.

😂 that is awesome to hear
Thank you for your tutorial. Easy to understand and follow
Glad it was helpful!

You're very welcome!

So I would have to go to my old website to purchase the redirect to the new host website?
Seems like it

I have purchased a plan on my wordpress site. Will it also be exported?

Why do you have two xml files? Also what happens after importing the one with all of the posts?
@@SmartWP it could be because I have 84 posts so it split into 2 xml files. No matter which xml file I upload, only 2 posts are successfully imported.
@@taimingkoh Could you email me both of them and I could test on my end? andy@smartwp.com

Did you have the option checked to download all media when importing on the wordpress.org site?
If your site hasn't been "launched" before the migration takes place, would you still have to pay for the redirection?

If no one knows about your old URL you probably don't need the redirect so I would say no.
