This is the sequel to Alone in the Dark 2, launched in 1994 . This time they corrected most of AITD2's gameplay mistakes but unfortunately it seems to be a less inspired game when it comes to graphics, music and story. It's still a good action adventure with a unique setting. -

Jed stone is Elizabeth Jarret's son...and his father is Ezequiel Pregzt. The text at 1:16:02 make this reference and obviously the writer wanted to say "I pray thad Jed DON'T follow in the footsteps of his mother (Elizabeth)" because she was an evil sorcerer in AiTD2.
So, AiTD1, 2 and 3 has something in common: Pregzt's family
Also, Emily Hartwood is Jeremy Hartwood's niece, the owner of Derceto, the mansion where AITD1 is set. She is a playable character in AITD1.
And that's all thay could do for the trilogy lore...amazing!
FINALY! an Alone in the Dark 3 run without annoying commentary.
What I find weird is that there are UA-cam viewers who actually like commentary. Why would anyone want to listen to bad jokes while trying to watch a game?
Michael I know right? I look for playthroughs of games and it has people talking over it that gets in the way of the action. It's like you wanna say..."Shut up! We want to hear the game!"
EricV1 Not all LPers make jokes, you know.
I agree. Not only bad jokes but also reading every single dialog box that appears. Really annoying.
Now imagine a commentary from the guy who voiced 00:27:33
This game brings me great memories from my childhood in the mid to late 90s! I played it to death although it crept me out all the time. A great thing was that in the Brazilian Portuguese version even the voice acting was dubbed.
+Bigórnia Musical Yeaaaa the Spanish version was also Dubbed
Hahahaha somos dois, brother. Joguei muito essa porra.
Hahaha somos três
Somos 4, jogando agora aqui no trampo inclusive, tenho instalador q roda super de boa em qualquer pc só não é a versão dublada =\
Drinks from flask, health goes up.
Drinks from flask, health goes up.
Drinks from flask, health goes up.
Drinks from flask, health goes up.
*Drinks from wood alcohol, dies.*
Edward Carnby, the detective powered by very specific alcohol.
Ironically, ethyl alcohol is the antidote to methanol (wood alcohol) so there is some reality to this.
i would indeed prefer to face jed stoned drunk
wood alcohol is metilic alcohol and that kills anyone
Edward Carnby is a video game character I have such compassion for--seeing weird crap, getting shot, figuring out puzzles that don't make any logical sense and enduring being turned into a cougar and floating through the air with the help of a Navajo shaman who doesn't really have any back-story, but just happens to be there so he can help Ed return from the dead... I think he deserves to imbibe every flask he gets!
I thought the exact same thing. With all the s**t he's going through, who can blame him for swigging down all the hooch.
I was wondering about the puzzles too. Some of them don't seem to make any sense and I was wondering if there's an online walkthrough that explains the puzzles. All of the walkthroughs I found just give steps to beat the game rather than explaining why.
Michael
I think it's just one of those games where you know it sucks because it's not logical at all but then, perhaps out of boredom, you persevere with trial and error.
One thing I think about the flasks, the games are set in the 1920s, prohibition is in effect so I say "SWIG AWAY EDWARD CARNBY"
Alone in the Dark got weirder as the sequels rolled out. The first game had a pretty awesome plot with cool character intros and amazing voice acting for its time. Pregtz was an awesome evil abomination, with lots of occult and Cthulhu references, with even a puzzle final boss. AitD2 got super weird with Tommy guns, zombie gangsters, undead pirates, random kidnapped girl, and weird 'point and click games' puzzle logic. Now it's ghost town cowboys and shit?
You are right. The first AITD was good, and then it all became nonsense. At least this one isn't as bad as AITD2... But still, there were some really strange unintuitive parts where you feel like the developpers just ran out of ideas.
Alone In The Dark 1 and AITD 4 New Nightmare are the best
No guys, AITD2 is the real masterpiece here.
All 4 are great. number 2 is the weirdest but in the end it's awesome.
you're all drunk, 3 is the best - just for the music alone
I don't want to compare it to Resident Evil being that Alone in the Dark was the granddaddy of Survival-Horror, but in a way it followed the same path as Resident Evil as that series got progressively more action-oriented by giving tons of guns, simplifying the puzzles, and even numbing down the monsters by making them not as scary.
The only problem is that AitD never changed its layout to accommodate.
To this day I am still pretty scared of AitD 1 as it kind of freaked me out as a child.
The cougar part and the two Edwards combined into one scene are epic
That part where the "false" carnby and the revived one reunite is unforgettable
And the part when Carnby miniaturizes.
This game had a lot of fun gameplay ideas. =D
I like the dark atmosphere in this game. And the zombie-cowboys idea is actually interesting and unique.
These games could have been awesome, but they are so freaking cryptic with all the searching, pushing, puzzles that make no sense, pixel perfect activation of stuff etc, there is no way one could normally play these. I remember playing the whole series as a kid (1-2-3) - this one was so hard, second one was my favorite back then for some reason.
My childhood too and #2 is my favorite as well ;-) I don´t really agree about the comments on #3, I found it just as easy to play as #2 really, but still #2 was the best :-)
these games WERE and STILL ARE awesome, and all the searching pushing and puzzles are what make it awesome.
They are less playable than Resident Evil 1.
Damn, I remember this! (from when I was about 7 or 8). I thought it was so scary!
Even now it does feel really atmospheric
You too!? i had the 1,2,3 trilogy i could play the first one just fine. Failed miserably in 2 and yeah...too much of a wuss to play 3 lol
the second one was tad easier for me actually than the first...I finished both but the third one was bigger than the first one and the second combined and I gave up..
i remember this playing with my siblings. my sister was 10 my Brother 6 when i heard them screaming from the next room as the music started ..... ah memories
hello guys my father also played this too me and this triology affects my perspective a lot
I love the fact that the undead gravedigger was terrified by you coming back to life...That just tickles me...
It's not a gravedigger, it's a sheriff Dawson.
And we never get to see him again after. Where the hell has he gone?
A diary entry from 1865 at 1:11:12 mentions deuterium and heavy water. Deuterium was discovered and named in 1931. This was a slight overlook. :)
No, you're absolutely right. The game didn't last more than one game before it became a gun-toting adventure series. The puzzles lost all logic by the time the third one came out. The first game was probably the only good one out of all of them. Hell choosing between Emily and Carnby was a pretty bad ass feature as it was... obviously a great source of influence for RE. I'm liking The New Nightmare, myself.
True! They also didn't make the backgrounds much better than the first game. They all look more cartoonish.
@@SonySupporter the cartoonish backgrounds aged pretty well though, so I don't mind that.
Thats because Frederick Raynal get out from infogrames, he is a genius
@@SonySupporter Also the Frederick Raynal Wife was the artist in aitd 1, but after they created alone 1 they quit from infogrames
A remake of these games would be amazing
You got your wish
Wait what really?! Just hope it doesn't get the RE3 remake treatment...
@@GilgameshApproves Yeah. There’s a demo out for it right now. I saw manlybadasshero play it.
October 2023! It's the first one though and from what I see so far Emily and Carby are both in it. ❤
Well they did remake alone in the dark 1 with some references to 2 and 3. The dev shutdown but idk if THQ want to make a sequel still.
28:20
Love that her Aussie accent comes through in a few places.
I played and finished all the 3 games and the Grace mini game in the middle 90's and finished them all.
Fabulous game at that time and still is...
Best part was no internet walkthroughs to check.
Infogrames made me a game addicted!
It was nice to remember this game from my childhood. And what an obtuse little game it was... but still a fascinating ride. Nice video.
0:31:39
I still get shivers whenever I hear that scream
This series of games and his original Creator (Frederick Raynal who definitely created this genre in 92 with) behind the technology, the mechanics and puzzle never got the recognition it deserved in USA, all those mechanics will be in RE and Capcom hiding it until Mikami admitted it and said Alone In The Dark was the main influence to not said almost plagiarism (before that he said he didn't now this game exist even tho the manor got a lot in common to derceto aand the puzzles of 1,2,3, attack window etc), RE was supposed to be an FPS.
What a shame... it's like forgetting Carmack about Doom.
I really hope they would do a remake of Alone in the Dark 1-3!!!
1st reboot announced.
THQ Nordic 2023
AitD1 = Horror, AitD2 = Action, AitD3 = Action/Horror.
AitD3 = Indiana Jones)
ohhh man this GAME!!!!! This is literally my childhood!!!!!!
easily one of the best games ever created
The music with the mouth-drum is what's truly frightening
Ooh! I remember trying to play this game with no translations when I was a child. It was such a pain trying everything possible to get to the next level "everytime". I repeated the same levels so many times I can still remember the music and scenes like yesterday. I would try to play it again for the sake of it one day.
27:42 "DANGER!" i freakin lost it man, omg
I like watching old games with no commentary
This game is a classic!
25:20 "there's nothing more to find here" *finds something more*
1:07:37 "I am against violence" do you even remember the body count in AITD2, carnby?
He was drunk and in a santa suit. Its a valid excuse.
Am I the only one who hated that cat sound when a zombie died?
In my childhood, this sound seemed to be the most terrible thing in the game.
That was the point! Annoying the player...
No
Why does the door open after dropping sack of scorpions into a hole? Why does a pearl open bank door? Why do you need hammer to blow a bullet in a door lock when you could do it with your rifle's grip? Why does a card elevates the grave? So much questions, so little answers...
Because Frederick Raynal is not in the secuels
The only reference the game makes for where to use the bag of Scorpions comes from when Carnby kills Lone Miner: "The Scorpions! I was saving them for the hangman." The Pearl being used in the bank's door comes from the astronomy book in the bank. If you look at the top of the vault's door, you'll see four stars (mentioned in the book). The Pearl is supposed to be the fifth star, also mentioned in the book. If a person played AITD3 without playing before AITD2 the references to the OEJ grave the Metallic Jack of Diamonds will make no sense. The clue to unlocking a door by detonating a bullet inside the keyhole comes from the jail office poster on Li Tung AKA Cobra.
I always thought this was the longer Alone in the Dark, but now I'm not sure after seeing the previous 2 games took longer to finish by this channel.
I think the only thing that really improved in the AitD series up until 3 was the amount of detail and the animations such as the cup pouring the liquid in the opening sequence to AitD 2, which looks pretty good.
The music's not bad either.
Sadly, I don't know much about The New Nightmare.
What are your thoughts?
I played this game as a kid without the music. I didn't even know there was a soundtrack in existence. This game felt really scary without music, it had this sense of creepy-weirdness in it. That's "my" AITD3.
Wow I remember upgrading to a Sound Blaster to take advantage of the better MIDI instruments.
Yesss
I remember playing this with my dad. The bit where the two people merge. You shoot, and he shoots. I said to my dad, "Put your gun down, and then we tried it, and it worked
I always thought I completed this game but there's so much I don't remember. One of my faves.
2.10-3.10 That minute long death sequence feels like an hour. Boy, did we have some patience back in 1994.
Or do we have no more patience now.
@@Maxime_Martyr
This.
0:27:33 "Keep these reels away from anything FLAMING! Oh, shi-"
That seven-second audio clip is my favorite part of the entire game, hands down.
I prefer this one: 1:10:00 :-3
Slaugther Gulch "The friendliest town in the old west"
Sorry, I didn't receive notification about this reply! Well The New Nightmare plays like a pre rendered background Survival Horror does. Even better yet because you can choose between 2 characters (Carnby/Aline) and both have very different play styles and completely different scenarios. It's really good, I highly suggest it...would not suggest Inferno though...
0:42 AH AH! HE SAID IT!
How were you supposed to know that you have to shoot the door to get it opened? "The knock, knock! its Santa Claus" one
Davernos I get stucked in that part and i had to watch this guide...imagine my face when I realized what I was suppose to do...just so random
Terrible shitty design
A few of the puzzles are like that. The whip door thing I had hit a few times and nothing happened, didn't even think to use it. The shooting door bull too. This is a awesome game but sometimes there's moments that are just BS!
This game seems to love milking the joke "I'm alone in the dark"
Oh man I finally found this game. I have vague memories of being creeped out as a kid by some ghost cowboy game. I think this is the one
My version of this game has a different voice over and the key behind the mirror is just part of the general search
(25:18) of the vanity table. There's no way to turn that mirror around no matter how long I push or from what angle.
Glad to see someone who can appreciate The New Nightmare despite being different of the original trilogy. This game was a really good swan song for the Playstation (some of the most beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds I ever seen). Even today, I still find it enjoyable.
Personally, I think Inferno is really underrated. It's very flawed, I'd give you that, and VERY different from the original Alone in the Dark, but I still found it enjoyable (especially with all the changes they made).
is a masterpiece isn't it?
these trilogy of the original releases without censorship was a masterpiece. and im not counting these compilation label packing or dlc up to dated versions.
No, only Alone in The Dark 1 and New Nightmare are good, the rest is pure garbage...
@@LoneWalker59 Shh, you're not allowed to speak the truth ;P
I always loved this game and thought it was better than the first two...unfortunately the intro is not the original Carnby voice from the game I had, along with a few other voices in this video. Ah.. my childhood memories with this game... brother had the game and loved watching him play.
The third is the only one of the original trilogy I never played through. After the second game, I didn't felt like trying.
Can't wait for Retsupurae to cover this game too. The first two games were hilarious.
The 1st Alone in the Dark from 1992 for PCDOS was the best one that came out in the 90's, part 2 and 3 were ridiculously hard and impossible to play, then the series got better when it came out on consoles in 2001 and after
That hapen because Frederick Raynal the creator of the 3d engine and alone 1, quit from infogrames, bruno was a stupid ass hole and takes all the credit of the work of Frederick Raynal team
I wasn't prepared for 1:01:40 and laughed more than I expected to.
please tell me this one doesn't have the looping clown music the 2nd one had, that soundtrack was the real eldritch terror
1:22 the original Lickers :D
where?
this game has awesome soundtracks
I also like this Soundtrack, because it try to become better at the Time.
That are Rare Now days!
Seeing this game i can tell RE & SH got inspired by this. Alone in the Dark is the father of Survival Horror!
that song when he's in the tavern has been in my head since 1994.. lol no lie
3:50 THAT OST :D
I forgot where i listen in 1996 and i JUST FIND NOW ;D
It reminds me a lot of Resident Evil. It is insane to think this was an MS-DOS game. It looks more like a super early PS1 game. This came out in 94 and so did the PS1.
The first game influenced Resident Evil, so yeah, the similarities Don't end there.
Gracias ! Me sirvió para poder pasar algunas partes .
Resulta que hay que situarse muy bien en frente de los objetos , si no , no interactúa.
So, that random Navajo warrior job was to levitate others from one pillar to the next?
Alone in The Dark forever!!!!
38:16 + The book is red, not white. I have checked several times and through exhaustive research and color comparisons I have confirmed, concluded and firmly and undoubtedly established that the book is definitely red.
It's due to a mistranslation.
This is a French game. In French, "Livre Blanc" (White Book) can also mean "Blank Book". And the book does indeed appear blank at first.
@@POLE7645 Ah! Very good then. Thank you! I'm now feeling, as Homer Simpson would say, quite culturally sophistimacated, swave, and deboner.
By the way, where has gone the sheriff? After he ran away when Carnby resurrected, we never saw him again.
the voices are different than i remember. is this a remake or something?
Isnt the descripton wrong? Its a sequel to Alone in the Dark 3? Not 2? Thanks for uploading this!!
this is so good!!! tks for that
49:47 since when do hammers make gun noises?
Nice game, nice music) Old Good times))
Alone In The Dark 3, Em Poucas Palavras: _"YTPBR: Um Pistoleiro Chamado Jed Stone."_

Uhmmm, someone bring some paper tissue to that voice actor, please?
He seems to be really suffering from his own running runny nose....XD
Finally a million!
The Trilogy really needs a Remake~
So far, yeah,
but it does not mean they can't do a good Remake, SOMEONE.
Remember playing this on my 386 good times.
*Lights go out, giant trademark pops up*
"Cut it short Greg, I've got problems."
"Commander get you in a new game?"
"No, not really, no. I'm Alone In The Dark® (3), I'll explain it some other time."
If you step on the pentagram without the indian amulet is that an instant death?
Yes
how did u enable the sound???? please tell me
I never understood why, when I was a child, I confused this game with an Outworld's secuel, I don't know it was for the playability, or graphic, but I always associated one with another! Recently I realized that I was wrong.... SO wrong!
1:01:26 "we just killed that nosy PI. Better let this bobcat run around without interruption."
The Music sound little like Alone in The Dark ''2008''
it is easy to notice that resident evil took a lot of inspiration on this game.
It's mainly 1. 2 and 3 are kind of ignored.
I love Danielle Kaminski when we and Jake were both 8 years old
What's with the voice acting in this video? Carnby is supposed to have a much grittier and angrier voice. The native also sounds like a poor impression of something trying to be native.
PolShabadu Mid-90s video game voice acting is what happened. They all used to be terrible like this.
That may be true but the voices in my copy were way different
+PolShabadu This is the original Alone in the Dark 3 version of the game designed for MS-DOS and Windows 3.X. You probably had the rare Windows 95 version of the game titled Alone in the Dark: Ghosts in Town which, regarding the English language version, changed both the dub and the ending song which plays in the credits compared to the ones of Alone in the Dark 3. Other countries also got the rare Alone in the Dark: Ghosts in Town version but featuring the same dub and song as Alone in the Dark 3 (Spanish version for example).
This isn't the original American version I don't think.
I didn't realise this was 1994. for some reason I never played this, but I played part 2 heaps.
I wonder if it might be a good idea for someone to kickstart a hd remake of the games..
not really, in my opinion. remakes spoil the games. they change things. they destroy the classil nostalgic feeling. this is meant to be kept a classic forever.
The theme and surroundings reminds me of Shivers 2. Ofcourse, chronologicaly it could only be other way around...
1:14:16 WAIT WHAAAAAAAAT ?!
How were you even supposed to know the path ?
xDrHellx That’s what i wondered! 😋 I hate when games expect you to learn from dying over and over, that wouldn’t happen in real life!
1:19:50 + The tank has got the future look of Resident Evil.
Anyone know where I can download this at?
Is it ever explained why defeated enemies transform into ghost cats?
What console do you need to play this game?
Stefan MC DOS if i remember perfectly
Stefan MC DOS if i remember perfectly
Stefan MC Yep, It was an MS-Dos game(1994). Later on, it was released for Windows 95 and Apple as well(1996). Still have the Original MS Dos CD-rom
Martin Panda Thanks :)
Mikki Hiiri Ok Tnx :)
yes it draws relation.. if you are talking about alone 4 or 5, you may be right i can understand, but for this game or the previous titles it's very poor of you saying "horrible"..
Did anyone figure out the cowboy clone puzzle without a guide? No way I would have got that alone.
30:21 that's AITD2 right?
Yeah. I always had some trouble to figure out the people on the picture. There's clearly Elisabeth and Jack in the center, then on the left you have T-Bone and Shorty. I can't figure out who are the tall guy and the bald one.
uh nice. I'll finally get to know what's beyond the first minute
One of the creepiest weird games ever.
this games deserve a better resolution gameplay
