Great video! I have already played bannerlord for 80h on realistic an still learned a lot here. It would also be interesting to know the exact differences between the damagetyes (cut, pierce, blunt).
I think you could give a tip on how to approach fights. I personally like to drag the agro of a weaker enemy, to target a stronger armoured enemy so that we both kill the strong guy first then proceed to finish off each other. This way you can eliminate a foe that you would have more trouble to deal with at the next stage also securing you an easy bet&win next stage.
Shoot bows/crossbows in first person(toggle POV through the r key). The third person view isn’t accurate to the arrow/bolts actual path. Although 3rd person might have some use with throwing weapons to better judge the trajectory and aim after the first shot. When on horseback, double tap the forward/backward key to make the horse accelerate/decelerate faster. This only really works from a standstill or full gallop, for acceleration or deceleration respectively. Good for horse archers. Tap any number key that doesn’t have any units on the field(so if you have no regular cav, 3 for example) to give orders to everyone on the field. 1>f3>f2 for Shield Wall, necessary for any standard infantry. Place your archers, if you have more than ~40, on even a slight incline facing the enemy in loose formation(2>f3>f3). Place your infantry in shield wall at the base of the hill. Be sure your archers are not blocked by one another or your infantry. Do this right and all of your archers will be shooting as the enemy comes within range. This is good for massive archer armies, as even a small amount of infantry can cover a large group of archers in this formation. If there is no hill, align your infantry behind the archers and have the infantry charge once the enemy gets close.
Handling is the one reason why, unlike in Warband, I only carry one shield. I need the other 3 spaces for a good sword, a damage dealing sword or a glaive, and a stabbing spear with long range/lance. You need good sword + shield when you are peppered with infantries while on foot. You need glaive for chopping people from horses or if you are on foot and your opponent is charging on horse (you don't need the shield to block. Use manual blocking). Spears & lances are pretty self-explanatory. Ofc, in most cases, you don't need the first two since you won't fall off your horse. Glaive-chopping is fun, tho, so sometimes I do that, too. Also yeah, the bows are currently the most powerful weapon for a soldier bcs of these multipliers. And the Battanian Fian is the best archer troop personnel-wise, so.... I am a believer of mobile archer troop, tho. As for sieges: I use master archer, bcs they're easier to recruit and replenish. Just bring like 50-70 q4-5 Aserai archers and tab in and out the battlefield every 5 minutes.
You can switch weapon direction control to movement keys rather than mouse movement. I find this much easier to control, and maybe some others will too.
an addition to the arenas Vlandia = Riding w/ polearm/shield Sword and shield Crossbow Sturgia = Riding w/ sword/shield axe and shield spear and shield (cancer) Battania = Two handed More two handed Bow Possibly more two handed Empire = Riding w/ two handed spear (uncouchable) Thrown (Javelin) Bow Sword/shield Khuzait = Riding w/ bow Riding w/ Sword Riding w/ Spear Possibly more horse related activity Azerai = Dont know, I dont frequent the desert wastelands (except to burn their cities) He is right tho about the tournaments mirror their troop compositions
Oh, something interesting to note about the value of the items from tourneys (and just I'm general really) is that it seems very dependent on where you're selling them. I got a sword that was worth 3k and decided to hold onto it for my companions. Opted to sell it later and it was worth only 800. Went to a different city and it was worth the 3k again. Neither city was where I won it.
Thx for the guide, i wanted to play a melee focused male character for RPG reasons but found myself to be terrible(!!!) in combat. ost of the time i had to run even from tier 2 or 3 opponents and i had no chance in tournaments. So i picked archery and found it to be the only way i could contribute to a fight. Still no chance in a tournament, but at least i am getting a bunch of kills in battles. Also horse archery appears to be the best way to whipe out fleeing parties. Just ride behind them slowly and mow them down with bow and arrow. I keep missing with the lance and sword as often as i hit but never miss with the bow due to the crosshair.
IMO, in foot combat, nothing is better than a sword and a shield + Bow. I am unbeatable in one on one combat when I have a sword and shield equiped On horse, use a swinging two handed pole arm. Couch lance is good but leaves you exposed and takes too long if you're against multiple enemies. A two handed pole arm will deal massive damage against multiple enemies
I'm sorry! It was really hard for me to recreate, but as far as Chambering goes, think of it as using your left click to block - you have to be quick about it.. If you see the direction they're attacking, quickly left click in that direction - you'll either score a hit OR chamber the attack, if you chamber the attack, the window to respond with another is quite small, but you'll get "priority"
Nice video, but. Listen to the whoosh noise of the weapon, everything is in tune to that. Best time to feint is as soon as you hear it. Also look up how to chamber. Training for the whoosh noise of the weapon swing is just the beginning of mastery 👌. Good luck
I don't know if it's been mentioned in future videos, but the weapon combo appears to be entirely unrelated to switching attack directions- that animation instead appears to be linked to timing ANY blow correctly- I've found I can do that heavy combo blow more reliably by repeating the same attack! I used to think it was just low skill with the weapon, as the blow feels slower, and then I thought it was trying to swing in a bad combo (I'd never landed it, so I didn't know the blow is heavier) until I realized I was doing it fairly reliably by just timing it near the end of the blow, without swapping directions.
to win every turnament when fighting someone on foot, just move on your left side or right constantly and throw atack (circling around enemy) they dont block it.
Great tutorial - had no idea about the two grip options on a sword. Does the sword have to be 2h or 1h for this to be possible? It's confusing to me if you're on horse it can be both 2h and 1h.
It seems you forgot an important combat tip. If i missed it in this Video i apologize but u forgot the parry! If u parry u get a higher time to counter. Its as simple as it sounds. Block at the right time u will See it visually and with a little different Sound and then let the counter fly. U have to be fast because the stun or the time frame is Not much but its really effeftive! Again just Block at the right time (just before the Hit) and u perform a parry! By the way, It works also with shields!
OH HO! I wasn't aware of that. I'd been trying to test that just because I'm so used to Soulsborne games, but I'll give it another go. Thank you so much for that tidbit dude, that's huge. So I basically need to time my shield block with the blow of their sword? or is it different with shields? I've heard the parry i think and just assumed it was "chambering"
@@italianspartacus no its Not chambering. You can Actually google or watch UA-cam "bannerlord how to parry" videos. And yes how have understood right. It is right before the blow comes, as you wrote. But for more Details check some Google or UA-cam Videos of that. In my case parries are a good method to get a Hit on enemies. Chambering imo seems harder but it seems also more rewarding. I think parry is the second one and then the shield/sword bashes. This is my feeling imo. 😁. Parries also need a little more fast reaction after parry. You have a little longer period of counter attacking but be fast because enemies can recover fast. You have to know the Timings and the feeling when your counter has to fly before enemy can react again after a Hit. But it is really useful to parry in my experiences. In tournaments really helpful. In most battles i use it. 🙂 And it works with all weapons and shields. Tested with all two handed, one handed, shields. Dont know about long spears but i think yes they should work aswell By the way, Keep up the good stuff. I Like Ur Content!
@@pascalhelvoort No, still not fixed. I saw in one of the vids from ItalianSpartacus that it changed during his vid. But I still see no increase in skills. It would be deliriously spectacular if a tournament or even the practice arena would skill you up.
@@andreascj73 I've leveled up during tournaments and arenas, my companions as well. This wasn't the case in the beginning, but as I said, they did patch and it should work rn
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j I can only confirm xbows right now. Even if that is the case at least bows have really good alternatives that can be used on the horse, I don't see an issue with damage when you can already 1 shot elite infantry with horsebows...
Good content. I think one key different between kick and shield bash is you are fixed at the same spot throughtout the kick animation, while you can move during bashes. Both moves are opening yourself up trading for stagger, but bash have better tracking due to you can move. When I fighting with spear and shield, I tend to counter bash then follow up a overhead thrust for head, all attack done while move towards the enemy, usually good when they getting too close. Not sure is my thing or just Bannerlord, I frequently got my swing animation stucked/interrupted when hitting an enemy, much more frequently than what I can remember back in Warband, especially when I'm using axes or against high tier, heavily armored guys. I do think the spacing to enemy is part of the reason, but isn't the sweet spot of axe swing is much tighter than before?
And some thoughts on the areana section: I don't recall seeing bow in Vlandian areana, it would be even more rare if compare with crossbow, but Vlandian is the only one have crouch lances I saw so far (not sure about Khuzait, haven't travel there too often). Also Khuzait and Sturgia have the most annoying equipment set: spear and shield on foot.
The easiest things to do in this game are archery, one handed with a shield. On horse, use bows, and long one handed swords. On foot you can be more accurate while firing your bow but lack of mobility leaves you super vulnerable, and short swords/axes are king.
Tested yesterday but unfortunately both crossbow talents for cav reloading (riding and crossbow skill strees) are still bugged: as of right now you can only reload on foot.
I will say I think you are incorrect about sturgia tournaments. They seem to primarily focus on 1-handed spears, as that occurs more in that region than in any other I have been in. While Battania uses two hands a lot.
the skills to use bows on horses as well as reload crossbows on horse are currently bugged and not working, both in the riding skill and the bow skill, same with the skills that give you extra arrows as well, this is a known issue and they will fix it
Funny how it's almost easier to pull of some of these feints and moves with an actual weapon in real life. (Not that they would necessarily work or that's the way to use those weapons, but still...)
@@MrCakedo Oh, I wasn't saying that there aren't feints in medieval fencing. Although not certain if any authors call them that. The Italian schools have something very similar to what you describe. Anyway my point is that it was easier to pick up an actual sword and try these moves in real life than to master them in the game haha
I found, that in the start a tournament gave a lot, but since I kept winning them all, now the bets are bad at the start. Did not matter how many named characters participated...(was in it).
Maybe the game factors in chances of winning, like betting on horse races. The long shot that's extremely unlikely to win gets more money paid out where the 1 that's most likely to win gets the least amount of pay out compared to how much is bet. So since you have higher skills levels and probably better gear, then you're more likely to win the tournaments, hence the lower amount paid out. Maybe this is it.🤷♂️
Unrelated to this video, but it would be good to get some hints on how to switch from being a mercenary to running your own kingdom, it is very hard taking your first castle/city without being obliterated. Easiest way I have found so far is to take a castle and then immediately pay for peace with the faction that you just took said castle from. Additionally retaining lords within your kingdom seems very tricky.
The reputation system is pretty flawed. Its hard to ramp it up & easy to lose it. To ramp up - help them in combat with looters, release them affter you defeat them in battle. Try to avoid voting on kingdom matters unless you are really really keen on a specific outcome.
Nice Guides so far ^^ could you please consider making a Guide about the better Companions and where to fiond them maybe ?! Thnx in advance PS: how did u get a Banner on your Lance, havent seen that before?!
Yeah yeah Combat system all very interest, but the main questions should be how do you get the cool looking flags on the spears and how do you get a guy to wonder around with a huge Nation flag attached to his horse?
As of yesterday or so, the perk that allows you to use any bow on horseback is not functioning correctly. I could not equip my longbow despite having the perk that should allow it.
I've very rarely found crossbows, mind you I haven't really hunted to get one before.. Javelins for the win ;) But the couple of times I've found them was when I was at the army level and captured a crossbow(item) from the Loot panel.
@@italianspartacus thanks, I did. My game must be bugged. maybe why I can't find crossbow to save my life. Oh, well, early access. They'll get it fixed
@@Grant5272 Couching also requires a minimum speed (don't remember of the top of my head sorry), maybe you have a couchable weapon but the mount in particular has trouble gathering speed most of the time
While this is still EA and could be changed, not all 2-Handed weapons have the ability to hit multiple opponents from one swing. This property is most aptly described as *"cleave"* and is strictly relegated to axes currently, giving that weapon type superior DPS in comparison to other 2-Handers typically. Again, this may be changed (may not, since it could be a balance decision for the inability to stab with axes), but it should be clarified to keep info as accurate as possible.
Thanks for the information! One thing I noticed with arenas is you companions joining the arena this has led to me changing his/her amour so that's they are not too hard to kill when it comes time to face them which generally is how the tournaments play out. Have no idea how to change it so they don't enter. And another question do companions get experience from entering the tournaments?
spear + heavy armor on feet is awful, simply because theres no much space safe space between you and a sword when you dont have the moving speed, and the attack speed is lower than sword so you need that safe distance, also glaive is amazing even on foot, however... spear is so strong in siege and mounted combat, I suggest use a one hand or two hand or glaive on foot, use spear on mount and siege
Gul Dukat!? Damn Cardies! hahahah So there's a trick to it that I tried to illustrate in this video, but failed. So what you want to do is .... Jump attack . IT sounds dorky, but basically jump forward and swing simultaneously - you'll land a hit on their head almost every time
So I bought a lance with the couch tag, but I don't get the option in the bottom right corner when I use it and charge. Does it require a certain speed of horse of level of some skill? Or is my lance just bugged? Sorry, I'm at work and don't remember the exact lance, but I made sure it had the couch lance tag.
if youre still on a sumpter horse or old work horse they wont get up to the speed you need for the option to show up, you really do need to pick up the pace to make it worthwhile
Your wrong on the Wager part, You were winning a lot of tournaments that's why the wager is 405 instead of getting 600 from base. No matter what enemy you have in the tournament it doesn't affect the wager, only the tournament winning does.
I know the crossbow skill line has a perk that says it allows you to "Reload any crossbow on horseback". In my game its not working. Not sure about the one in the Horsemanship line.
Crossbows are not implemented into the game cant buy them anywhere and super expensive if you do find them, only time you use them are in arena. No point upgrading or going down crossbow skill tree at the moment
@@dannyward4385I am on the normal now and saw it in the towns list. Go empire or vlandian towns. You need level 20 in crosbow. Don't start a character lower then two points in crosbow. I do feel crosbow is neglected in the game.
Because his as you see it is compressed into a video format for a specific resolution. Yours is the raw output from your graphic card to your screen, so you might see more aliasing, and pick up more details, but with it also more flaws, especially if you have a large screen, it'll be much more noticeable. You might want to try and take your game's resolution up , it might make it cleaner for you. I don't know if Bannerlord has an overscaling system (which is called Super Sampling) as I'm too lazy to check right now, but if you can keep your resolution but ask the game to render like if it was on a higher resolution and then scale it back to yours, it might help giving it that sharper cleaner look you're expecting. If it's a texture problem, you might want to check if your drivers are updated, and since most objects in the game are processed in a way where they first load in low textures and needs a slight load before you get it at it's best look, then you might want to look at your task manager and see if you're not lacking in RAM or CPU. If it's none of the above, then it's a GPU problem which shouldn't be the case since you're able to play the game at max settings with a seamless experience when it comes to performance.
Are you using any kind of mods, your interface looks differences, Troops carry large flag, horse and personal icon on the bottom right also looks different
They added a beta branch to the early access. You have to opt in via steam and it will download. Game properties (right click on game in library) then choose beta tab, and choose the "beta xxxxx" from the list. Bro where is the skill needed, idk if I'm missing something but I've done about 30 tournaments and lost evey single one and some mechanics just feel pointless, blocking dosent do anything, blocking in the right direction dosent matter with a shield, the only way to hit someone is to get lucky and they put their shield down for fuck knows
The combat is the same like in warband just with a little more bugs, normal is EA. It is not bad i just wish they evolve a little bit stagnation is a nasty beast. Bannerlord is the same like warband only with better graphic, and i think that are some mods for warban that make it look better than banerlord. They only thing they improve are siege battles. Siege battles are much much better than warband. Games evolve some for the good some for the bad but they still evolve to bad that mount and blade dint evolve almost at all. Dont get me wrong i like banerlord very much, the problem is that 98% of it is warband. The only thing that is diferent is siege battles.
I think we're going to see a lot of that change in the coming months as more gets added and patched in. I imagine that this is the bare bones, "Warband 2.0" build that will be entirely different from the full launch a year from now.
I've actually never really dabbled with the first person view with archery. I'll give it a shot :)
Thank you!

Many thanks for the tutorial. Unfortunately, for now a lotta perks simply don't work. So you can't use longbows from the horse.
That one seems to be hit or miss for some people. I have a lot of the quiver perks that work, but I haven't tested the bow perk just yet :(
Yes, unlocked both the riding and bow perk of allowing any bow on horseback. Neither allows me to use a longbow while riding.
another amazing guide. Thank you and keep up the awesome Bannerlord videos!
THank you brother! More to come :D
I am unbeatable in one on one combat when I have a sword and shield equiped
On horse, use a swinging two handed pole arm. Couch lance is good but leaves you exposed and takes too long if you're against multiple enemies. A two handed pole arm will deal massive damage against multiple enemies
Good job. This explains a lot and pick ups on many combat mechanics. But i wanted to know about chambering the most xD
Love your videos. Great information.
Nice video, but. Listen to the whoosh noise of the weapon, everything is in tune to that. Best time to feint is as soon as you hear it. Also look up how to chamber. Training for the whoosh noise of the weapon swing is just the beginning of mastery 👌.
Good luck
I can't wait till the "Can use any bow/can reload xbows on horseback" perks get implemented/fixed
Also the extra ammo perks. God it feels like half the perks still don't work.
Great instruction, inspiring! Thanks Brother!
to win every turnament when fighting someone on foot, just move on your left side or right constantly and throw atack (circling around enemy) they dont block it.
Hard Diplomacy mAke sure you go into the tournament with all your armor equipped . If you load up on heavy armor you’ll have a big advantage.

Heres a great combat guide in which the creator dies to 3 looters XD
Nah he's good it was just kinda funny
Hahahaha I have a hard time trying to be informative and fight cogently. Just got WORKED by those looters
Great tutorial - had no idea about the two grip options on a sword. Does the sword have to be 2h or 1h for this to be possible? It's confusing to me if you're on horse it can be both 2h and 1h.
[;' ah gotcha thanks. Would that also be called a bastard sword?

Sword needs both 1 handed and 2 handed in the tooltip.
@@brandonweber2133 agree, i miss warband 1h swords, they become 2 handers when without a shield
And it works with all weapons and shields. Tested with all two handed, one handed, shields. Dont know about long spears but i think yes they should work aswell
By the way, Keep up the good stuff. I Like Ur Content!
Super helpful!
Glad to hear it!
Your skill doesn't change in tournaments ... though sometimes your companions' will.
It does, they patched it
@@pascalhelvoort No, still not fixed. I saw in one of the vids from ItalianSpartacus that it changed during his vid. But I still see no increase in skills. It would be deliriously spectacular if a tournament or even the practice arena would skill you up.

Yeah, you know why I didn't know half the buttons did anything? Because they aren't included in the key mapping in Options; at all, lol.
Worth mentioning that the riding reload perks don't work for crossbows yet.
Thanks! Good tip
it didn't work for longbows as well. Does it now?
I've had a lot more fun with two-handed axes on horseback than swords but that could just be down to the actual items i had at the time
@@thesherbet I'm talking in regards to a solo campaign. Also, I suck at two handed on foot, and i try to maximize my usage of things i'm decent at.
Another awsome video...Thanks )).
the skills to use bows on horses as well as reload crossbows on horse are currently bugged and not working, both in the riding skill and the bow skill, same with the skills that give you extra arrows as well, this is a known issue and they will fix it
Funny how it's almost easier to pull of some of these feints and moves with an actual weapon in real life. (Not that they would necessarily work or that's the way to use those weapons, but still...)
There are treatises that uses a super high guard or low guard to provoke an attack, so it’s kinda a feint? Lol
Thnx in advance

As of yesterday or so, the perk that allows you to use any bow on horseback is not functioning correctly. I could not equip my longbow despite having the perk that should allow it.
there is actually two perks that do it, for me the one in the riding tree doesnt work but the one in bow does afaik
@@thesherbet that could be true. I took the one in the riding tree since doubling up didn't seem worth it

I can't get the couch lance function to work at all. I also can't find a crossbow anywhere in the game. I really enjoy your videos by the way.
Make sure you have a Lance with "couch Lance" in the tool tip! I've heard a very few are bugged
It also balances the fact that there are no high-tier axes.
There is an icon on certain weapons that looks like two villagers with a pitchfork...what does that mean???
I had a theory that the wager in tournaments is based on your armour level? anyone else notice this?
How do you get or Smith a weapon for two and one handed use? I assume you use a two handed grip?
Iv noticed u have to be close to opponent to block an overhead ax attack
Thanks for the information! One thing I noticed with arenas is you companions joining the arena this has led to me changing his/her amour so that's they are not too hard to kill when it comes time to face them which generally is how the tournaments play out. Have no idea how to change it so they don't enter.
And another question do companions get experience from entering the tournaments?
You need some friendly fire "accidents".🤣🤣🤣
spear + heavy armor on feet is awful, simply because theres no much space safe space between you and a sword when you dont have the moving speed, and the attack speed is lower than sword so you need that safe distance, also glaive is amazing even on foot, however... spear is so strong in siege and mounted combat, I suggest use a one hand or two hand or glaive on foot, use spear on mount and siege
Can somebody help me? When I look right my character swings from the left
i avoid the arenas in sturgia, the spear combat is so dam frustrating
Gul Dukat!? Damn Cardies! hahahah So there's a trick to it that I tried to illustrate in this video, but failed. So what you want to do is .... Jump attack . IT sounds dorky, but basically jump forward and swing simultaneously - you'll land a hit on their head almost every time
No doubt
For the direction of your attacks are you using mouse or different bindings
Mouse!
I have the skill that i ca use every bow on horseback but i still cant use the big bows... Anyone else with the same problem?
same here, think it is broken
A few perks like that are currently broken but Community Patch mod fixes them, and a few other bugs. You can find in nexus mods.
Hmm some are a little bugged but you do need to get to a certain speed with the horse before its "couch able"
U need a faster horse to do that
if youre still on a sumpter horse or old work horse they wont get up to the speed you need for the option to show up, you really do need to pick up the pace to make it worthwhile

Ok , I have my darn game maxxed out and I dont udnerstand how your video makes my game look like shit.
