Dude never give up on what you believe in. Artist is someone who failed many times but keep getting back up and keep on fighting. Wishes you nothing but the best of luck my friend
Brother! Be proud of all your art, and the beauty in their flaws. Doesn't matter if a 2.5 month old baby could do better, it was you who made it. This is yours.
Based off the mentality you have you won't fail. I'm on the same path as you but a few years behind you. Good luck man! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress you make
This is commendable. You yourself know you are dedicated and have the habit of practicing every day. I like it how you've put maximum priority on learning, and that there is nowhere to run or make excuses for not practicing X hours that day. Not many people can do that. Best of luck and more enjoyable time drawing!
Wow. That's quite a leap of faith. I hope it works out for you. Your right: discomfort is the only way to grow. Being comfortable is the worse thing you could do for yourself because when you're comfortable there is no room for growth and when you're not growing you're either stagnating or regressing. I like the risk your taking. Makes me realize I need to be taking even more risk.
It is very commendable that you have made it this far already. This journey is not easy for anyone, but your circumstances are definitely more difficult than mine. What I will be very interested to find out is how productive you feel training art full time. Having a part-time job breaks the momentum of your training week, its almost like living two weeks within one week. Yet the results have shown me that the combined hrs of my work and my job in 1 week is almost the same as a week when im on holiday focused purely on art. That's to say I thought purely focusing on art, no distractions from my job I would put in significantly more work hours, but that really wasn't the case. Im very glad to hear your taking up a mentor-ship, that's the ideal way to motivate yourself when you have an enthusiastic instructor counting on you to deliver. My only advice to you would be to be mindful of burnout. If you have not experienced this then you really don't want to. All the best man, looking forward to what you do next.
Thanks very much man, solid advice as always. I'm not too sure about the job and art combo. I used to think of going to work as a mini holiday and I think for the first several years it was a good idea to have both, I don't regret that at all. I did start to feel like I'm ready to just have one thing though, as the work starts to get a bit more complex and I can find more variety just in art. Will make sure to update. Thank you!
Love your videos. they've really had an impact on me and my art journey at this early stage. You already know the value of working hard and smart, so all i can do is wish you the best of luck!
I wish you the very best , Volen. Your videos have inspired me since 2013 and I've grown so much as an artist both in my skills and my mentality. It is impossible for me to put into words how much I appreciate you sharing your wisdom and your journey. I'm rooting for you, man.
I believe in you, man! Do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm struggling with finding the right 3D program, I need poseable figures and props, hopefully I can figure out how to install Daz content.
Wow, great to hear that you are going for it! I honestly plan to do something similar a few years after school, once I practice enough and look at the business side of things. But to see someone actually taking a similar routine that I intend to take is really inspiring and invigorating. Right now I work a lot on myself, draw almost every weekday in the bus while going to school and I am attending a traditional art course. I wish I could study art more thoroughly, but that would interfere with my studies and plan after school. (finding a decent job with the degree and building art in my free time just like you man) But I got to the point where art somewhat of a habit right now and when I don't do it, I feel uncomfortable and wrong, which is a big improvement for me since consistency is/was my greatest issue. I wish I could talk with you someday over skype or in real life, just to hangout with someone with similar goals and values as I have. I highly recommend that you look at the book The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday, since that helps you transform every obstacle into a gift/advantage. I can't wait to see and hear how your journey progresses. I'm rooting for you! And have great day man :)!
I also find it very inspiring to see so many people who are on the same path commenting on your videos here. It's really exciting. If anyone wants to chat then contact me, or just reply to this comment, I'd love to talk to guys too! :)
That's awesome dude, thank you for sharing your story and an awesome book as well. Robert Greene & Ryan Holiday are a must-read combo :) Very similar story for sure, I was drawing on the bus every day to work or looking at reference, looking at my office phone for design / value / perspective or whatever else :) ... Will definitely do more community stuff in the future as I manage to build some momentum, so I'm sure I'll see you around at some point :) Best of luck dude, keep it up!
Well said. I know u will find success in what u do so keep up the practise no matter what. There is so much progress in your work and on your UA-cam channel. Best wishes to u bro!
Hey, I know the difficulties, I've gone through a pretty tough time myself. And probably knowing what you know, good luck and hope you'll make it asap.
Takes a lot of courage to do that I hope to have that in me someday. I wish you the very best of luck I really mean it ill be watching. I went from 0 to now doing pinups once in a while and making some money for it. Its because of the words and advice you gave. Keep doing what your doing.
Thank you for sharing your insights on this great journey! It I spires and gives more strength to keep on hustling. Best of luck to all the hard-working artists out there!
Hey volen, This world is but a canvas to our imagination. I have 100% faith in your determination. We're all rooting for your inevitable success. I would say good luck, but you make your own luck. "To see a world in a grain of sand. And a heaven in a wild flower. Hold infinity in the palm of your hand. And eternity in an hour." William Blake.
Hey man, I live in the UK too and I'm curious about how much you are spending a month. Any tips you could give on living on small budget would be really helpful. Thanks man, good luck!
Just cut out all luxuries... no kidding. Clothes, going out, gadgets, movies - everything. I currently live on about £600 a month, which pretty much covers me, but it leaves me at 0, so definitely start with some savings. If you have your parents or some family to stay with and your rent is low - take full advantage of that. Save up a few thousand with some job and then jump right into practice mode, that's what I would do :) Then repeat as necessary if money is getting tight.
You have such a smart positive mindset and im not saying quiting your job is the right thing to do but i think your doing the right thing and i am so confident you will succeed in whatever you decide to do.thank you for your video's they help me get through my own journey in ways you will never know. Good luck in all you adventures and i look foward to your future videos. Thanks!!!
Hey Volen! i wish you all the best with your new decision ! I've been following you for a while now and your vids helped me very much. Funny coz i also decided to go for a part time job recently in order to have more time for my work. Give us some news sometimes, cheers AH
Seems like we are in the same page..only difference is I am not as young as you and I dont live in priveleged country like you do..but I like wat u do...keep up the gud work.hope to see your progress...
Thank you. I think the internet equalizes a lot of things, right now where I live is completely irrelevant, since I don't really participate in anything... In fact - the cheaper the country, the easier it would be, so being here now is a disadvantage, not an advantage :) Wishing you all the best.
I wish you all the best, man! I've been thinking of doing the same thing for quite some time now too, and I guess there are a lot of people in the same situation. It's amazing that you really DO the thing, instead of just talking and postponing and I think this is really important and very inspiring! We must follow what our intuition says, success comes with a lot of sacrifices and time dedication. Wish you good luck on your future journey, Volen :) I might do the same thing soon :) By the way, I'm just curious, if I might ask, was your recent job somehow art-related and if not, what was it?
Thanks man, really appreciate that, it was about time to make some changes :) The job was working for an online business, some product photography and graphic design, things like that, not really art related though.
Hey,Volen! Are you bulgarian,if Imay ask?Greetings from Bulgaria!I am also an aspiring artist and I really know what it is to be dedicated to making art and all the drawbacks that come with it,especially when you live here. There is NO proper art education here,I went to university to atudy graphic design three years ago with the superstition that I will learn art.Now it's my last year and I can tell you that this was one of my worst decisions ever.So now parallel with that I study art related stuff every single day, because I truly want to be an artist in the true sence of the word, not just a fucking collage-maker.I am self-taught like you.The thing with pursuing art is that it takes a lot of patience, dedication, lack of social life, some sleepless nights,a lot of frustration, back pain, headaches and so on..but I'm going for it.So,I just wanted to say that I kinda recognized myself in the stuff you do,so keep it up,and never give up!
Hey God... good to know you're watching my vids ;) Zdrasti brat :) Keep it up bro. Just outlast it, outsmart it and outwork it... that''s all it takes :)
rooting for you! Your art is awesome! :) Have you thought about selling prints? I am still starting out my journey and I've found Redbubble is helpful to me when I don't have the funds to print my own stuff. You may not have friends and family close, but you have a UA-cam community that I'm sure would be happy to buy some art from you!
You mean what I do with students or what I'll be doing with Darek? :) With Darek - it's an environment design program, so we're working on concepts right now, primarily painting although anything goes, then later there will be some 3D and different tasks. Can't say yet what comes up next, so far we're on week 1 but will update here as we progress. Thank you :)
Hey Volen. First off thank you so very much for the energy you re giving us. If i may ask ( trying to reflect i guess hehe ) What is your current job? Is it related to art in any way?
Thank you very much George. I work part time for a small company, I do images and a lot of other things for them, not directly art related, but some photoshop, design & imaging among other things :)
hey man, i've been watching through your vids..Just wanted to say that I learned a lot from you, though as a soon to be fine art academy student,I have to tell you, I've been looking through your art. 2 things..There's a certain stiffnes in most of your figures, you should practice gesture and figure with a traditional medium, prefferably using charcoal and drawing big.,now all in all there's nothing wrong or even bad about the figures, they're just stiffy :D .I like the Germo paintings, but then again, those are not "your" figures,if you get what I mean, the detail on them is great, just needs more flow..and the 2nd thing,well...This one really annoys me but could be just me..most of your works have a certain grainy feel to it,maybe it's just me or the quality of the pics, but it's really annoying me.. now to just use some examples, look at your soul reaver, fallout, torment work, and then the Diogenes that you did on Germo, you should notice almost immediately that the figures in the 3 are stiffer compared to a sitting pose in Germo's,the other Germo work, again notice just how "stuck" in the flow of the action they are, almost like they're about to move, you can feel it..So yeah, everything else great work man, I won't even tell you how much ahead of me and most of us you are..Just practice on the stiffies :) use a graphite pencil and copypaper if you have to but do it away from the digital's, you'l feel the action/flow better. Cheers bro,sry for bad grammar :D
Also, your theories on the process of learning how to draw are brilliant,i'm self taught myself and deconstructing the process of learning how to draw is a much needed accessory to many teachers, since unlike most skills it's very hard to track progress, understanding how you actually need to think or what to be aware of is crucial. Cheers :D
Dude... stiffness is 90% of everything I do :) Figures for the moment are a secondary consideration, I'm going for environments first and trying to improve there, meanwhile I will slowly be breaking up the figures as well, but stiffness is really the beginning stage of everything - my designs are stiff, colors are stiff, compositions are stiff, figures are stiff... It's pretty much expected at this point :) Thanks very much for the feedback and great eye for noticing all that, I need to go back and re-examine and compare. I'm sure you'll do amazing work in a few years with your analysis and dedication.
Agreed :) Even with a teacher you're still self-taught to a huge degree, so it's crucial to be able to analyze what's happening and grasp on to any new concept and track it down to its origin.
Thanks :D Well the easiest way to make all of your figures look better with least amount of "flow" or hassle is to do the contrapposto..Imagine your figures are currently after the egyptian phase,in the "kouros" phase.by adding contrapposto which is quite simple, you'l get too the classic stage :D, everything after that is just learning how the body and drapery act in motion or certain position/grafity etc.. anyway, cheers dude, and thanks again :D
Hahahaha, looking up kouros really made me laugh :) That's exactly what all my guys look like :) Thanks so much man, that was awesome, great analogy - I'm stealing this from you :) My people need to evolve!
Volen CK - InPursuitOfArt dude I have the same headset, and I work as designer and after work I illustrate. im thinking about making same transition from design to illustrator so why not risk go for it. I quited my last job as cnc operator to be a designer now gonna do the same for illustrator
i dont understand you dude you have enough skill to find a job,my friend is +- at your lvl of drawing hes already in the industry working on mobile, just look for a small studio im sure you can find a job.
Dude never give up on what you believe in. Artist is someone who failed many times but keep getting back up and keep on fighting. Wishes you nothing but the best of luck my friend
Thank you! :) No chance of stopping, that's for sure. Just steamroll through everything :)
Brother! Be proud of all your art, and the beauty in their flaws. Doesn't matter if a 2.5 month old baby could do better, it was you who made it. This is yours.
Your attitude is so inspirational and empowering, thank you! Wishing you much success and happiness :)
Thank you, it's a privilege to have so many awesome people come here and actually care. Don't know how it's happened, but thank you so much.
Based off the mentality you have you won't fail. I'm on the same path as you but a few years behind you. Good luck man! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress you make
Good luck to you too, looking forward to seeing your work develop :)

I like the risk your taking. Makes me realize I need to be taking even more risk.
Well, we'll soon find out if it was just a dumb idea or a risk worth taking :) Either way - I'll update here :)
you can do it
Thank you! Doing it now! :)
It is very commendable that you have made it this far already. This journey is not easy for anyone, but your circumstances are definitely more difficult than mine.

All the best Volen!!! Awesome determination. you won't fail.
Thank you! :)
Rooting for you, good luck!
I believe in you man, good luck. I took a similar risk recently with my art, so it's nice to see other artist going all in with their passion.
Awesome, good luck to you too bro :)
I wish you the very best , Volen. Your videos have inspired me since 2013 and I've grown so much as an artist both in my skills and my mentality. It is impossible for me to put into words how much I appreciate you sharing your wisdom and your journey.

Im on a similar journey myself. Goodluck to us both Volen! :)
Good luck Scott! :)
I found your channel last night and you are such an inspiring person. Self-reliant and seemingly well rounded. I really appreciate your videos
Hahahaha, I like that you snuck in "seemingly" :) Thanks so much Angie, very happy to know you're liking the channel :)
I believe in you, man! Do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm struggling with finding the right 3D program, I need poseable figures and props, hopefully I can figure out how to install Daz content.
:) It's done! I'm sure you'll be fine, Daz is pretty straight forward and will give you what you're after :)

Thank you very much, really appreciate your comment.
Good luck with changing your career! ☺
Thank you very much :)
Good for you dude. Keep us updated.

Hey, I know the difficulties, I've gone through a pretty tough time myself.
And probably knowing what you know, good luck and hope you'll make it asap.
Thank you, best of luck to you as well.

Good Luck!
Thank you!

Takes a lot of courage to do that I hope to have that in me someday.
I wish you the very best of luck I really mean it ill be watching.
I went from 0 to now doing pinups once in a while and making some money for it.
Its because of the words and advice you gave.
Keep doing what your doing.
Awesome... Humbled to hear that, thank you so much!
Best of Luck
Thank you, you as well :)
Thank you for sharing your insights on this great journey! It I spires and gives more strength to keep on hustling. Best of luck to all the hard-working artists out there!

Thanks!!!
Thanks for sharing Volen! You are amazing :) It takes great courage and now you can move towards your goal with no regrets!
Thanks very much Naomi :) It doesn't take much to quit... but it does feel good 2 days into it, I have to admit :)
Hey Volen! i wish you all the best with your new decision ! I've been following you for a while now and your vids helped me very much. Funny coz i also decided to go for a part time job recently in order to have more time for my work. Give us some news sometimes, cheers AH
Absolutely. Sorry for disappearing... :)
Doi it mann!! DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT .............!!
IT'S DOOOOOOOOOOONE! :)
Volun you can do it stay the course your hardwork will be rewarded :D
Will do, thank you :)
Volen CK - InPursuitOfArt keep up the good work..
I wish you all the best, man! I've been thinking of doing the same thing for quite some time now too, and I guess there are a lot of people in the same situation.
Hey God... good to know you're watching my vids ;) Zdrasti brat :)
Keep it up bro. Just outlast it, outsmart it and outwork it... that''s all it takes :)
Congratulations on having Darek Zabrocki as your mentor, he's pretty much the best there is. I know you'll be ok, you already have all you need:)
Darek is a beast and I am definitely producing work right now that I wasn't capable of before... More pushing! :)
rooting for you! Your art is awesome! :) Have you thought about selling prints? I am still starting out my journey and I've found Redbubble is helpful to me when I don't have the funds to print my own stuff. You may not have friends and family close, but you have a UA-cam community that I'm sure would be happy to buy some art from you!
Thank you very much, that's very thoughtful of you, thank you for the great advice, will make sure to check it out.
you're gonna make it. I know it
we will find out soon enough :)
hey Volen CK. could you tell us more about the mentorship, what will that focus on, is there a set plan? like do this for x hours then this then that?
You mean what I do with students or what I'll be doing with Darek? :)

me too! :)
Were you in Canterbury today, think I saw you at the bus station?
Small world... :) Make sure to say hi next time :)
Oh for sure, I only realised where I recognised you from when you were walking away though.
I can't seem to access your blog at all. Don't know if it's just me, but the browser doesn't find the blog.
Interesting... Sorry about that, maybe try a different browser or device? I tried it several times, all seems ok...
Good luck. Is your work not at the right level yet or you just wanna improve even more?
I'm just looking to improve for now, I see that as the biggest priority.
