I just started learning 3ds max and wanted to learn how to accurately move the line to specific distance, this video helped a lot as in most videos people just approximate dimensions rather than properly drafting it which is needed by architects and engineers. Instead of deleting selected poly sides just click bridge, its faster cause you don't have void spaces inbetween

You should select only vertical edges or horizontal edges.
Don't select both horizontal & vertical edges.

Also, the moment I click outside the box the rings disappear altogether and then I have to make them again

And whenever you will click outside of the window the selection will disappear so you should confirm the selection without proceeding for any other step.

Selecting any edge or vertex the gizmo comes to the centre of that individual edge or vertex automatically.
