Melody is not on the PCD 2020 Reunion because, she wasnt even singin when she was on the group; she is focusing on her solo album. it was her choice.
I mean she didn't sing as much as she should have but you can't say she didn't sing. She had 2 solo numbers during their Doll Domination tour (the other girls had 1; Nicole had 2 as well), had some lead vocals on songs on the second album, had a verse in Beep, had some memorable high notes in Buttons and Sway (which to be honest without them wouldn't have been as good) and usually in performances was the only other Doll besides obviously Nicole whose mic was turned on and you could hear her.
@@AllenMQuinn Along with Carmit obviously. I wonder why Melody always got runs whilst Carmit would be given a verse.
She has said that she was hired to be a singer for the dolls but was made to be a dancer when she isn't a dancer. She was publically frustrated with the dolls and felt they were crushing her dreams by not letting her sing. I think it's very mature of Melody to not put herself in situation that isn't mentally healthy for her by touring with the dolls again.
Well that was her life chance to ever tour again ! dancing, backing.. and even singing cuz she actually sang a lot on the Doll Domination tours. On two songs she got verses that she isn,'t singing on the actual album version plus her solo song and she got to sing the burlesque stuff and many more lines and ad libs as usual. but anyway she made her choice let's hope she's happy with it
Melody reminds me of Jessica Simpson (you should cover her in a video at some point). They both get caught up in this mindset that singing is all about constantly showing off and riffing and every note sung has to be huge/flashy and as a result their singing and performances come off as so inauthentic and try hard and it ends up having the opposite effect. Instead of impressive its off putting and not always pleasant to listen to. Both can sing & have incredible potential if they reigned it in and learned technique to balance sublety with those big notes, they'd be so much better.
Finally somebody who gets i could no agree more with your comment if I tried lol I spoke to my friend yesterday and said Jessica Simpson's voice is good she just has bad technique same as melody there voices are incredible but they just loose it from time to time I actually think Nicole does it sometimes like over sing to show off but her technique has improved loads my opinion is this melody has the best unique sound when she was in the pussy cat dolls but technique wise Nicole is the strongest
She sounds pretty good when she's not screaming and trying to imitate Christina Aguilera.
I enjoy Melody, she was my favourite from PCD. I do agree that she sometimes tries too hard but like Georgina says, there's so much room for improvement because she has a good range!!!

There is a performance of Buttons where she had to take over the first verse for Nicole and she did fairly well.
I LOVE THAT PERFORMANCE OF MELODY. She sang so effortlessly in it
I know that performance, and I think she had the same issues there as she always does: forcing her voice to be lower and fuller than it naturally is, so it sounds pushed and tired.
@@ti6659 There is also a performance of Buttons where Nicole isn't there at all so Melody has to sing the entire song with the other girls.

Gonna be honest - didn't expect her to be this good. From that other video where she sings over Nicole, she sounded AWFUL. She's really not that bad.

Love Melody! I wish they would've let her have some lead vocals when PCD was in their prime.
The issue with Melody is yes she’s a good singer, but she thinks she’s a GREAT singer. Yes she has a GREAT voice, but having a great voice and having great technique are two completely different things. That’s why she has never really seen a vocal coach or anything, because she thinks that she’s already this amazing vocalist, which yes she has the potential to be one, but she needs to learn to let go of some of those bad habits because her voice has so much potential but she needs to learn how to really control and use her voice properly.

I love her a ton but it was pretty wild to hear her call herself a "phenomenal vocalist" -- she still has never been trained?!
She really has still never received lessons? Did she speak about it?
@@magdajabonska537 I suspect she has I've seen some of her recent performances and her voice sounds different it sounds more toned down. It still has that deep sometimes grungy quality to it but it's more calm and controlled. Plus she's singing lead on a stage production theaters don't typically just let any untrained individual on to the show let alone a lead role.
@@JuanitoEsBonito I've seen her recently in the bodyguard the musical she's improved loads obviously had the support she needed.
Melody sings amazing and like you said she has a lot of potential and should’ve had more vocals in PCD. But I do think her voice suits more in the pop music area and she’s trying to fit her voice in an Adele music area.
I feel sorry for Melody because she was so damn young when she started and was going through so much, so it's clear the bad habits she developed: oversinging, too many riffs, shouting to be heard - have stuck with her well into adulthood. She can't let go of her PCD past.
She has a decent high range and when she's using mixed voice she isn't straining nearly as much as when she tries to bely... She could be so much stronger and more consistent if she wasn't trying to run down and sound like other people. The runs are always sloppy or they crap out before she reaches the low notes. You don't have to sound soulful and powerful to be effective. I bet the best version of her voice is probably very light and bright and mixed... not growly, guttoral belts
It really does baffle me why she wasn’t used more in PCD instead of Nicole constantly
Yes Nicole has the best voice but they can all sing, some more than others but doesn’t all girlbands have that?? Yet they all sing!
I’m a massive PCD fan but it has and will always frustrate me how Nicole was used constantly
I like Melody but she wasn't consistent with her voice. She could pull it off one song and performance but then be a huge mess in the other. It made her too much of a risk especially when the group was at its peak and riding a wave. They weren't going to take their chances.
R H Kimberley is the worst singer off them all, but I think Jessica Ashley and carmit can all sing they aren’t near Nicole’s level but it’s pop music some singers are worse than them

Allen M. Quinn I get what your saying but she could of at least gotten the odd line where she doesn’t have to belt out the notes
I prefer this style for melody. There’s definitely an old soul inside her. I think she’s great only thing holding her back I think is her confidence to support those riffs because she sure can do them there’s no question about that. What people don’t realise is being in pcd was holding her back. Even though they had great success commercially a healthy work environment is just as important.
First of all I love you Georgina , you’re the best . Then everyone we all know Nicole and melody have a great voice but Nicole has a mature and experienced voice plus the tone of her voice is more commercial. And melody , she’s kind of obsessed with that Christian Aguilera’s voice she need to work on her vocals more.
Coming from a huge Christina Aguilera fan she’s my hero I do think Melody try’s to sing in a Christina style - you honestly need to react to Jessica Simpson - I wanna love you forever it’s absolutely insane xx
Yeah I totally agree with you on that, Jessica Simpson is a very underrated singer - my favs from her are "when you told me you loved me" and "where you are" with her ex nick lachey x
Christina Aguilera is Melody's favorite singer.
I had the pleasure of seeing her in "Rip it Up: The 70's" last year and she was spectacular. I went for Rachel Stevens and left as a Melody fan!!
I sense some PCD fans who are bitter in the comments that melody choose to avoid the reunion. her voice is good its just she does sometimes go over the top and easily deserved more from what she got from PCD.

It’s sad she didn’t ger enough lines on PCD cause there is a song called Painted Window in which Nicole and Melody sing together and it is totally fine, they have harmony together (at least in studio)

For Nicole the team is just her thats why I think Melody keeps trying to surpass Nicole because its all about her and not the team. Melody can sing but did not get her opportunity to show her talent.

@@HonestVocalCoach ok thanks.... This is great... Melody was put in the group as a lead singer at first.. But she did a terrible performance at the MTV Asia awards in 2004 you should check that out.. That's why Nicole replaced her as a lead
@@chubidelrosario4417 I like Melody but having Nicole as lead was the best decision they could have made. The group would have died out with Melody as the lead. Nicole had the maturity and experience needed to be a leader .

Carmit is the only one that hasn't been done, shes a good singer but Carmit is only good on the lower range

Nicole was always brought in as the lead. And Melody can’t sing and dance... that’s sort of a huge problem with the type of band they were.

First song was average. And as far as the band, it kinda reminds me of jamaican music. They don't want the singer to be out done by the amazing band. So I get it.
Shes getting residual cheques for her work with the PCDs so shes not starving or desperate so dont feel sorry for her shes living a very comfortable life
Aside from Nicole, all the Dolls were salaried employees of the record label, so were paid a wage+employee benefits in the same way a dancer or technician would be. That's it. She gets nothing in the form of royalties or residuals because she has no producing/writing credits, and they signed away the rights to their likeness so Melody doesn't get anything from merchandise or touring.
Not true, they were paid very little for their work, maybe even Nicole.
@@Nocturne22 Melody has stated though in an interview that her and Carmit get extra money off of their albums, since they got to sing on their albums more than the other dolls.

You know, now that we have Melody her interviews online where she explains certain things (saying she is a vocalist and that she didn't get the recognition in the band she wanted or she feel she deserved) like I get that and I do believe she actually can sing but most of the performances Nicole is doing 100% and nailing it all the way through and I see Melody just not giving her all... She's behind on the dancing and the few notes she has to sing (also standing still or sitting on a high chair, not even dancing), they go wrong a lot of the times for whatever reason. This stings a little with me. It's okay to call yourself a vocalist and not 'just a back-up dancer' but you'll have to be careful and make sure you nail every little thing so if people go look back performances they can say: you're right! you deserved more lines, more spotlight and more of everything but right now that's just not the case in my opinion. Please don't get me wrong tho, I think her voice is good and easy to listen to, it's just her way of handling this whole i'm a vocalist thing... This performance is a whole other genre and setting from when she was in the PCD and she wanted more there but If I see this and her performances in the PCD i'm just not shure if that was her place to be... + why she would've stayed in it for so long if it was really that bad... If you're so shure about being so great, then go chase you luck and take it in stead of feeling miserable in a band where you feel like you must out-shine the lead singer who actually does deliver quality.
melody was never a trained dancer, she didn't even know how to dance before PCD so of course she was behind. nicole doesn't always sound 100% and alot of the time mimes alot. going from dancing to singing live is hard since the dolls who were back up singers/dancers were moving way more than nicole. ALL the other dolls deserved more than they got wtf are you on about.
@@artjfuck Honestly, I don't even think Melody was ever that behind in terms of choreo. For a non trained dancer, she managed to keep up with the choreo (and do it well) better than lots of popstars. Like, she slayed the dance break in When I Grow Up everytime. The good thing about Melody is she had good breath control whilst dancing, which back then and even now, Nicole can struggle with as she ends up getting really out of breath. Melody also ironically seems to remember the lyrics better than Nicole, since there are many performances where Nicole forget her lines and Melody would help her. I also recommend watching Melody perform Buttons with PCD where Nicole is missing. She does REALLY well.

Melody has a pretty strong voice. She sounds great to me, unlike Jessica and Ashley. Folks around here (comments below) are tone deaf.
Melodies mannerisms are cringe worthy. It seems like she’s acting and ends up doing the most to look cool. She probably lives in her head

Unfortunately I must agree. It's not just about the missing star quality, it's much more. She does have a nice voice and range, but the whole performance seems so unnatural and definitely not effortless. It's like she doesn't support all those riffs and style and just thinks that it's what makes you a great vocalist. Lastly, she chose to sing soul, but she delivers no emotion at all.
What a instrument! Her voice! But I feel all this smiling disconnected to those songs. As she don't really feel what she sing.

I feel if Melody didn't force her voice too much and over-riff she'd be a great singer.
She belonged on backup and bg vocals, sure she has talent but she isn't there yet. Likely never will be. Sadly she didn't know her place. She just isn't a Nicole.

it always weirded me out cause on PCD in 2006 we used to think she was the bomb but now I just think she doesn't cross over so much from pop to classical to soul. And it's even worse how she labels herself as a 'vocalist'. I dont jnow who told her that. Like, aguilera and mariah are proud of their songwriting and call themselves writters sometimes.. so....

I don't know but she's like always wanting to belt out. Not a fan of the dynamic of the entire performance. Great tone no doubt, i think better than Nicole's (No hate). She needs a vocal coach to be able to use her voice properly.

The problem with Melody is that she doesn't use her real voice: her natural voice is high and thin, but she deepens it by lowering the placement of her larynx like Xtina. Unlike Xtina though, she's not good at utilizing this technique, which is why she lacks vocal agility, sounds tired, and lacks control. And don't get me started on her obsession with growls and overdone runs.
The musicians are awful! Melody is a star, I just wish she could get a break!!!! I love her music.

I feel like there is a lot of potential there. The band are atrocious. It's all very woman with decent voice gets up and sings in a bar. It could have done with a bit more production all round and would have been better
