    "If you want an injured patient, tell them to do a deadlift."
    True story. I was at the gym two years ago and had deadlifts in my routine. Not even a lot of weight, either. I never went higher than 135 lbs. Was in the middle of my third set when it felt like someone had walked up behind me and bashed my sacrum with a 2X4 capped with nails.
    I could barely walk for the next week, and my chiro at the time determined I'd severely strained the area around my sacrum and if I wanted to do it again, keep doing deadlifts.
    Haven't done another one since. Switched to hip thrusters and other safer exercises and I honestly don't miss them.

    • @middleagedcouchpotato677
      @middleagedcouchpotato677 Рік тому

      Agreed. I would consider myself pretty strong and like you I wasn’t lifting super heavy and also had a good trainer. I also seem to be of the hearty variety… I figure skate with almost zero issue and I wouldn’t say I’m at all injury or accident prone. Still walked away once with what I suspect was a sprain. Super painful. Could barely walk. The worst is that it’s been sensitive since. I recently sprained my back after getting the bottom of my leggings caught. Didn’t even fall. It was a huge eye opener on how we choose to train. There’s just no reason to put this area under that sort of pressure simply to train. It’s not worth the risk.

      It's called gua sha (traditional Chinese name) or Graston technique in the chiropractic world. It goes way back in traditional Chinese practice.
      (as Dr. Mondragon would explain) The purpose is to extract metabolic waste from the muscles and fascia (below the skin), so your body can dispose of it via interstitial circulation and the skin - your largest excretory organ.
      So it's the squeegee to the spongy layer between your skin and your muscles. :)
