It’s a trifecta John with his crack, sucklers and some amazing scenery The lambs are huge for newborns and sharp looking It is a very efficient stable set up Fascinating that the animals have a dietician Dad would have been interested except his grain mixture was a secret blend that he would want to know about but not quite enough to share😂😂
@@tomgreene1843 For just one farmer, me, it was a bit...overwhelming! I slept in the barn basically for 10-12 days. It was about 10 years ago, so it was just before super inexpensive, wifi cameras were easily purchased. I could have set up a camera system in the barn to watch for lambs being born, but...eh...I just sort of checked often or did a lot of work in the barn.
Super set-up. The oxy makes sense. I've used it to open up cows and help them drop milk into their spins. Makes sense that it would give them the mothering hormones too.
Outstanding ewes lambs and set up , the lamb in the pen with purple no1 its side is a smasher. Yeah we would have used the salt on lambs and in the ewes mouth to get them to lick. To be honest Texel bred ewes have a bad habit of rejecting a lamb and we find that they always reject the lamb that gave the more difficult birth. As regards naval spraying it should never be stopped its the main route of bacteria infection at lambing , yes top class hygiene and cleaning are essential but 10% iodine is cheap and quick. Well done what a first class beef and sheep farm.🎉

a mule sheep is a crossbred sheep. Texel is a breed that is crossed with a different breed to benefit from particular characteristics of the other breed. If you are breeding for meat lambs, you arent looking for a purebred animal. You are looking for a body type, fast growing, good on grass only, etc.
Not sure why the sex of the twin lambs are a consideration when choosing a replacement ewe since the lamb gender is determined by the ram not the ewe. I can see deciding whether to use a ram again would be a factor as if you put a ram to your ewes for replacement ewe lambs and you lamb out mostly ram lambs, you wouldn't use that ram again, move him to the commercial lambing ewes. Great video and such a wonderful set up, so clean and all the stock in lovely condition! It's too bad about the mic position as can't hear most of what the Dad said. And did the fellow say in grafting a lamb onto a ewe he used salt? Couldn't hear him. Wish some UK farmers would try Ile de France, far superior to Texel, rail out over 50% and extremely vigorous lambs.
Lads every day I look at your videos it lifts my heart I know we have a lot of dead stock in your game hill farming isn't for the. Faint hearted but you might get the legend and I have great respect for what you do to give Michelle keane the thumbs up big respect for you all

Good stuff
Thanks
Very educational how farming has come on fair play
👍
Time to build a new shed for yourself. You need the space with the amount u have at lambing
Fine outfit there ...is there a better price for early lambs ?
Ya there always has been for the Easter lamb. Costs are very high for early lambing
@@sheepshepherd A farmer I know ..not on utube, told me the early lamb was hardly worth the bother but he only has small numbers. Thanks for comments.
100% only the last 2 years they got great prices. But before that, it wouldn't have been that great.
Some shed
