There’s this cool glitchless trick in shifting sand land where you jump into the pyramid and then do a well timed triple jump into Eyerock’s room, allowing you to fight him without needing to stand on the pillars

6:28 My (semi) educated guess is, the groundpound extends Mario's hitbox, causing him to hit the fence. And the fence ejects Mario the opposite way he is facing (and he just happens to be facing the right way to be ejected onto the other side).

I've accidentally done owlless I just played sm64 for the first time the other day. I had no idea theres was an owl to take you to the cage I figured it was a platforming challenge after many attempts I finally got it and was so proud of myself. After researching sm64 speedruns I found out there was an owl always learning the blj which I used to beat the game without 70 stars.
That simpleflips drawing makes me think about Nathan’s drawing skillls
I'm surprised that blj isn't at the number one spot. Its was the reason why 0 staff runs were possible and help getting up the infinite staircase

So, I take it the Speedrunner in the honorable mention is transgender? Would be a real show of respect not to use her deadname, or at least leave it at "at that time" and use her real (current) name afterwards. If I got something wrong, please correct
well in speedrunning she's known as CosmoWright just because that's the name she was using when she was a man and she was speedrunning, that's as simple as that, don't take offence on everything
@@NovaTheDark it's pretty invasive to not only deadname someone like this, but also show pictures of her pre-transition. I can understand they may have thought they didn't want to confuse anyone, but that doesn't make it any better

It seems like these tricks take 3 times longer to get right than just playing the game normally.
I slowed down the footage a lot so it was easier to understand all the complex movements that are required for these tricks. That might be why they appear to be slower then playing the game normally, but they save tons of precious time in runs.
Nathaniel Bandy No, I know that the footage is slowed down, but I just meant like attempting the shortcuts and messing up repeatedly, all of which sounds a lot more stressful than normal gameplay. Hence why I'm not a speedrunner.
yea, learning the tricks is hard, but damn is it so satisfying to finally pull off that run with all the tricks you've learned

I may of discovered a shortcut, on the 50 star door, there are pillars next to it, the left one is easier to get into, you need to BLJ into it and get to the top on it, this is at the level of the 70 star door so you can skip the time going up the stairs to it.

nope, the N64 version is better...
the biggest reasons (in my opinion)
1. the controls in the DS version dont work well (even on the circle pad... I've tried)
2. the extra length that it has just feels forced
3. the speedruns of the DS version just... no...
And this is coming from a person who played the DS version before the original N64 version

6:38 the reason the trick works is becuase the programmers coded it to where you can walk up slopes, if the slope isn't too high up. The fences count as ground, so they also count as slopes. That means you can glitch up the slope with the right precision.
no thats abselute bullshit, im pretty sure that fence is a 2 sided fence which means that there is no slope at the top and when you do you can go into the inner wall hitbox and it will push you inside the wall also slopes on fences are slippery slopes so if you touch it you will instantly slide
