Hey everyone, I need to pin something here. Since I posted the video, it appears a lot fo the data shown on the wangzthangz website are false. Please see this google doc made by the player Dihtsih which contains ALL of the data relevant to digging. A HUGE thanks for sharing this with me and I can now share these numbers on to you ! It is very well made and I think will help a lot ! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lcUkJvFFctZa5lzkRubDWOsrHRHmfpK-kW_vTU7F1iI/edit?usp=sharing
Fantastic video, thank you for making it to help people learn about/get excited about digging! I have only a few notes based on my experience digging: * By the time someone reaches rank 7 they'll surely know this already as you alluded to in your video, but while elemental ore can be dug from 7~24% waxing crescent, any phase outside of 10~14% will incur a substantial nerf to ele ore dig success. When the server picks the elemental ore placeholder to drop, your chance of successfully receiving elemental ore if you're at least dig rank 7 and there's some elemental weather in the zone is 50% from 7~9% waxing crescent, 100% from 10~14%, 70% from 15~21%, and only 30% from 22~24% waxing crescent. * You 100% nailed your explanation of how digging skillups work, but I've found skillups are easier to understand if you know that the chance to receive +0.1 dig skill is 1 in (average digs per rank / 100) each time you dig, regardless of whether or not you find something. It works out to match the percentages listed, accounting for rounding errors of course. * Philosopher stones are usually better to vendor, they sell slow on the AH and rarely for much more than they vendor for (~4k at max fame) * Zinc Ore is worth leveling goldsmithing a little bit for, brass sells well in stacks, but even turning it in to Talib in Port Bastok for Norg fame/350 gil is better than NPC rates. For the advanced digger, I can understand vendoring it out of sheer convenience because it doesn't add up to much in the aggregate and it's much faster to vendor it than fuss with a trip to Lastok, but a novice digger is more likely to also benefit from the Norg fame. * At rank 3 (Novice), your dig delay is 4 seconds. In practical terms it feels like 0 because the length of the dig animation is about 4 seconds, but it is implemented as 4 seconds on Wings, perhaps to discourage illicit attempts to speed up animation to dig faster. * As mentioned in GME LS chat, the wangzthangz website may be a useful reference for what can be dug where, but their drop rates are horribly misrepresented. * If were going to add anything to this video, I'd mention something about crystals. "Single" weather gives a chance of digging a crystal of that element, "Double" weather gives a chance of digging a cluster of that element. But the weight to dig a crystal is always the same, so if you're digging somewhere with *no* weather, your dig success rate will seem lower than it should be. Crucially this is where wangzthangz gets it so wrong, because while the *weight* of getting a crystal/cluster is the same in every zone (100), the *chance* will be different zone by zone depending on the sum of all weights, leading to Yhoator Jungle being the "best" zone to dig in no weather in terms of overall chance of getting something, and Yuhtunga Jungle the worst.
This guide helped me get to Novice in 10 days!! Can you make entry level tradeskill guides from things you can dig? Like... Woodworking, Goldsmithing, Smithing and Bonecraft? Would be great!
One change I make to any repeating macro( this or any skillup magic) is to make the last line something like"/echo DONE!!!". That way I know when macro is done for sure.
to be fair, the community itself is very positive/nice towards each other. Ive had very few bad experiences on the server. Well see how things progress with HXI launching real soon :)

Thats a lot of very useful info. Thanks a lot for adding this :) I pinned this comment as this is a great addon to the basic guide !
Nice timing, I just got to 20. Hey it’s Kwothe!
nice ! Perfect timing indeed :) hope this helps
Well I finally joined Wings last week. Been fun playing the old way. Thinking I may stay with it a while.
Welcome to the server :)
Thanks for the guide! Already making a profit ;) keep 'em coming!
This guide helped me get to Novice in 10 days!!

not a bad idea, i will think about it !
thanks zar

dude i love your videos can you make 1 on hunting poison hand or the punisher for o kotes please
Can u use your own chocobo with a chocobo whistle to dig in wings? or only with rental chocobos?
in wings there is no personal chocobo so its all done on a rental bird !
I played in the early 2000 on unicorn server and didn't anybody make gil digging lol
Why would anyone play in a server with an owner that is was a RMT in another???
thats news to me lol
u gonna play on Horizon?
not sure yet, i might give it a shot, not sure I want to restart from scratch
Ashame it seems this this pserver has some major admin abuse. It seems like a fun server if it weren’t for that.
