5:16, The shim on the stem is used to change the stem angle. Depending on how you orientate the spacer and/or the stem on the fork, you can get about 4 different angle options to lock in your fit. I have a few of those stems and enjoy the versatility. It does seem weird the first time you see it though, especially, as you said, being the stock stem on the frame and both branded "Specialized".

You've probably more than doubled the value of that bike with everything you've put on it. Cracking build boys 👍 I upgraded to TRP Spyre calipers (cable disc) and whilst they're an improvement over the standard rubbish that was fitted, they're not a patch on hydro's. Okay for me though.

How much clearance did you have between tire and frame with those 47c tires? I have what appears to be the same TriCross frame and I am skeptical than anything bigger than 700x40c would give enough clearance.
Compressionless brake housing can help mechanical disc brakes feel better. I worry that squealing of the brakes at the end was contamination from touching the rotors. I'd give them a degreasing and don't forget to bed in those brakes pads. Cheers!
Ah does compressionless brake housing make a big difference? Truth be told we hadn’t broken in the brakes at the time of recording because we didn’t have the right spacers for the callipers 😬 They’re all good now though

looks great! personally I don't see the need to change the wheels. but to each their own also at 12:52 it looks like you're wrapping the tape too loosely. That amount of "flap" shouldn't be there.
Ah thanks! You don’t see the need to change 700c to 650b in general or don’t see why we did it? Yeah, it looks a bit more spaced out when you see the final shot of the whole bike
@@TheSlowworms a) for this type of budget I don't see the need, and b) just because the old wheels had a rim brake surface. Sure, you probably save some weight. but the whole frame is already heavy enough, and the groupset too. My interpretation is that it's mostly a cosmetic reason on your part.
The main reason he wanted to change them was because he intends to regularly use it on unpaved surfaces and he wanted greater comfort. With the previous tyre change he went to 35c but he wanted even bigger tyres. We worked it out and he couldn’t have gone much bigger than 35c. Certainly not 47c. We thought we may as well try a 650b conversion because it’s pretty common and we heard a few people rave about it. No, he didn’t like the rim brake rims but that’s not the primary reason for him changing them. It is pretty odd having rim brake rims on a disc brake hub. To be honest, they probably aren’t any lighter but I don’t think he’s worried.
There’s always fads in cycling. This is just one of the current ones. I think they’ll be a few more bikes yet before we run out of ideas. Especially with electric bikes suddenly being very popular.
