I prefer having my front brake on the right lever; I like having the primary brake controlled by my dominant hand, and it's in the same place as the front brake on my motorbike too so helps build muscle memory. That said, when I rode for a Belgian team, all their bikes were set up the other way around and I got used to it very quickly. I just prefer it my way on my personal bike.
I like the fact that he geeked out even saving a gram on drilling the top cap bolt but didn’t compromise ride ability by installing 4 piston vs 2 piston calipers. 2 piston would be lighter but the extra power w 4 seems like it’s a necessity which is a smart choice matched with those rotors. And of coarse the tires being bigger/heavier no doubt makes for a much more fun and playful bike. Very smart build, sure it could be lighter but this is going to be way more fun as he built it imo.
I love custom stuff like this. You can just tell the amount of work and passion that goes into these things. Sounds like it’s going to be ridden hard too so that makes it even more awesome
It’s nice but he Could have made it even lighter it he had used narrower tires, berd spokes, 2x front, carbon fibre chainrings, carbon fibre bolts, etc.
@@kalijasin - what narrower gravel tyres do you know that are lighter than 365g? - BERD spokes would be heavier than the carbon ones that I used. - 2x would be 250-400 heavier than 1x even with carbon chainrings - carbon/plastic bolts for cages were just 2g lighter in total for 6 bolts than the hollow aluminium Extralite bolts that I used, but they are much weaker.
7:35 I tried those sweeties on a mtb. And they were on the limit for marathon use. I read a couple of reviews, some guys bent them on the first steep dh section. So you might want them on your gravel bike, but on a proper mtb.
A beautiful piece of art. The paint scheme and colors are awesome IMO.. You have to race it in a true gravel race . See if it's a real gravel bike as well as a cyclocross bike.

The heat capacity of those brake discs must be significantly lower than ordinary brake discs. I guess this is fine if you only ride on flats. I like reducing weight, but i never compromise on brakes.
I love a light bike (that’s fit for purpose, not a showroom Queen) and that’s insane. My trail mountain bike is fairly light at sub 12kg, but more than double that!
Please! Put som handlebar ends that are full !! It can be very dangerous in a fall if the bar end is hollow as it can penetrate through skin quite easily and provoke serious damage. A couple of grams are not worth that risk.
I have the impression that the early 90s wild west of MTB parts is back with all the shady chinese stuff. The Garbaruk chainrings however, they make evry bike look great instantly.

Way beyond what most of us need in a bike. I'm not sure I would want a super light bike on gravel, but I'm not a racer. Comfort over speed for me. So what is the most comfortable, best handling bike for an aging rider? No batteries.
I'm wondering if you race gravel and have done any races with those cranks in Colorado or Utah? Unbound? IM'mconsidering a lighter crank but plan to use them in some pretty rough race conditions.
@@williammorris4419 just get the ones with the aluminum spindle. I also have the titanium spindle one, but those are heavier. The aluminum one with chainring is 413g. To me it's not worth the risk
They did race Crux bikes on Unbound. Same frame, same fork. All other parts are raced gravel multiple times, I just put them all together + a bit more on this bike.

Oleg's channel is very good. A while ago he auditioned to become presenter on GCN but the idiots turned him down. This bike shows his amazing attention to detail and his relentless pursuit to achieve it. Pure class.
If I get insanely rich a would like a lightweight heavy duty build thats ok with 130 kg load. Maybe with 50mm dampers in front. I have 30mm damper now and guess it can save me from chrashes when hitting bad holes and bumps.
Very nice build,.... Wonder how this guy would treat a EBIKE with 180 mm rear travel and 180+ at front.... guess changing around bolts might not be usefull?
#askgcntech Have you ever tested to see if shaving your hair off (your head) changes core temp enough to make a worthwhile difference in the heat? I cant seem to find anyone that's tested it. Is anyone on the GCN team hard enough to test it? I noticed a massive difference in temp after shaving my head, but it might be just because I'm not as fit as you guys. Surely it would also be more aero through the helmet vents too.
I don’t have budget for such modifications, I guess I’ll lose some weight on myself 😢

Reducing the puncture protection allows you to make a thinner, more supple tyre, which will be quicker.
