  • In June 2022 I was invited to a corporate evening function in The City of London, but was also able to stay for the weekend in one of London' most iconic modern buildings 'The Shard', in an impressive Deluxe City View Room of the Shangri-La Hotel.... this film is what I found.....
The Shard is a 72-storey skyscraper, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, in Southwark, London. Standing 309.6 metres (1,016 feet) high, the Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, and the seventh-tallest building in Europe. It replaced Southwark Towers, a 24-storey office block built on the site in 1975.
The Shard's construction began in March 2009; it was topped out on 30 March 2012 and inaugurated on 5 July 2012. Practical completion was achieved in November 2012. The tower's privately operated observation deck, The View from The Shard, was opened to the public on 1 February 2013. The glass-clad pyramidal tower has 72 habitable floors, with a viewing gallery and open-air observation deck on the 72nd floor, at a height of 244 metres (801 ft).
The Shard's biggest tenant is the 5 Star Shangri-la hotel, of the Hong Kong based Shangri-la Hotels group. It is one of London's top 10 hotels. The Hotel features the highest infinity swimming pool in Europe, and Gong the highest hotel bar in Europe.

Once upon a time I had the chance to stay at a top-rated hotel in another European capitol and decided to save the few extra dollars. However, for my first ever trip to London I splurged and stayed here several nights. From arranging a hotel car for airport pickup to my departure, every hotel employee I encountered addressed me by name. Now the closest I get to London is watching TV, but I can always pick out "my hotel." Well worth the experience. Thanks for the memories.

Great video. I've seen a few video's of the Shangri-la at The Shard. This one is great. My only bugbear about this hotel is all the furniture that clutters the windows. Every room seems to have way too much furniture spoiling that amazing floor to ceiling view.

Hi Andy - great vlog. I have a thing for luxury hotel stays. Shangri la gives me vibes of pan pacific Liverpool Street (not quite as impressive) but you should check out and review it as it’s similar (floor to ceiling windows) views in city etc

Flash, extremely flash. Is the modern toilet one that squirt a jet of warm water at your bum? I experienced that once and it made me jump off the seat. Any reason you didn't dine there? Guessing that's an eye-watering extra. Was there a kettle in the room to make a hot drink? Thanks for your video.

Yes there is a kettle and Tea making stuff. The toilet does indeed do that! Had Breakfast in Ting, but had dinner elsewhere.
