I saw this commercial several years ago...and it never gets old. Since then, ive owned MANY del sols and currently have four of them. The funny thing is, i have to keep reminding myself this is a commerical for VW - not Honda.
no need to bash each other, its advertising, of course car companies are going to bash each other on commercials to get buyers and to have better sales, I like Volkswagen but Honda spends more than 10x less on advertising and their sales are waaaaaaaaay beyond on what they spend on advertising their vehicles, why? because Honda has had an amazing past and Honda's are known for reliability, that del sol is still up and running in the commercial so really, the commercial backfires ;)

lol, no. The weight of an engine is far more than the weight of a spoiler. If you are going for 50/50 balance you don't want to add weight anyway you want to shift existing weight. Being FWD also means that spoiler will *reduce* traction. Then again, you won't be going fast enough in that del Sol to really utilize the wing anyway. It's aimed to push down on the trunk. What happens when you push down on a trunk? Rear squats and front lifts, removing traction from your drive wheels lol.

If the front of the car PUSHES DOWN rear lifts up doesn't squat. you need to push down the front of the car to get better control on high speeds. To prevent the back of the car swaying due to front pushing down hard, you add spoiler to the back. Also if you can go faster than 55 miles, which you can with a Del Sol especially if you tune the engine up. you need modification :)

I wanna get a Wings West mid wing for my del Sol, but I'm perfectly fine with admitting it's just for looks :P PS, sorry Doug, but -real- wings can be useful on FWD if tuned properly. Of course, probably 90% of the wings on most cars tooling around town do not fall into that category lol

The fastest 1/4 time for a Honda is 6.525. The fastest ever Volkswagon is 8.657. check out dragtimes com. Those little Honda run quick all day. It doesn't cost much to build a fast Honda. I know from experience. Parts are just cheaper and the cars themselves are more reliable. You see these kids hitting 11 seconds on the tracks, and drive back home with the same car. Unlike the Volkswagon which needs to be towed back home.
I'd say the del sol is a safe car ive gotten into 2 front end accidents, one at 60 mph involving a moose and I plowed a deer at 55. take that VW and your plastic parts "water pump, clutch slave cly, etc"
