- Today we set out on an adventure disassembling an Audi CVT for the first time! Thank you for your patience as this was our first time doing an Audi CVT and it was a little tougher than normal.

First time I saw this gearbox-type disassembled in stages. I have had three of them - in two cars. First one was aa Audi 2002 A6 2.5 v6 tdi 163hp; at 110.00kms, the control unit went u/s and had to be exchanged (3.000 €). At 210.000kms, it was starting to get tempramental, with the warning indicators on the dashboard flashing and quitting soon afterwards. Mind you, the car had alwas been serviced, and I am a careful driver.
The second one is a 2010 Audi A6 2.7 v6 tdi that I had bought from an Audi dealer with 75.000kms on the clock. Within the first weeks, I sensend some anomalies with the gearbox. As the car was still under guarantee, Audi provided me with a new gearbox (which would have cost 9.000 €). I am now at 204.000kms on the clock and have recently changed the oil, something that should be done every 60.000kms.
When the gearbox is functioning, it is very comfy and very economical. The trouble with my first A6 2.5l tdi was that the torque from the engine (310Nm) was scratching the design limit of the gearbox, something that had been rectified in the successor model A6 4F. I suspect the reason for the failure in the 2010 A6 was that the previous owner must have pushed the car too hard. What this gearbox does not like are hectic, fighter-pilot like inputs. If it is treated smoothly and serviced according to the manufacturer's specification, it should run at least 250.000kms. (hopefully)

Many are getting them to 200-250k miles. Post 2008 ones that is.
I really like my Audi cvt it's so smooth around town .Only thing i dislike is the lag when engine is cold.
Don't force it when cold, or you will grind the parts inside :)

My 08 Audi a6 c6 had one of those cvt's, worst transmission i've ever had. It got replaced with a 6 speed manual, never looked back.

The case was cracked from a wreck. And yes we cleaned all that up since the video haha

Glad that's not my box he's working on, very slap dash untidy, disorganised and contaminated. At least clean it before cracking it open and for god sake be organised. 🙄
That’s not the build area people lol. That’s just a spot where we tear down trannys we use parts out of.
Yeah coz the massive hole in the casing was keeping all the dirt out😂😂

@@ln5747 it's a good car drive her like a rolls Royce be nice and carefully it is a beutifull car, unfortunately the clutch went on mine and could end afford the repair transmission was still good to 259000 miles

Can i change the cvt from another audi without reprogramming?
You may have to swap out the TCM or valve body.

Is there someone here may help me? Cvt in A4 2007mod working well when cold oil, but when motor temp rising over 60c degrees starting vibrating when start accelerate from 0, but not sensing this over 45km/h. Only at low speed. Also shaking when redusing down to under 35. Seems to be the shift from 1-2 gear. But not anything when cold. Do this gear box have a hidden oil filter inside in addition to the round black one? Can this problem be related to stacked filter? The oil analyse show much metal particles.

It looks like it grenaded, and one of the gears blew through the side. Or maybe a curb went through it 😂. I was curious how these things were put together, thanks for the vid! Cheers

Where is this cvt oil filter??
I have 2005 a4 1.8t cvt
MT got 2 Filters. One is easy to change and the other one is in the Gearbox. You have to split the case for change. Nobody doing this. Search for proffessional transmission flush. In Germany its about 400-800€ depending on shop.
