Your video 2 years ago after you tore your calf was probably your funniest but also most real video on the channel 😁
I think running is a basic human need, just like walking, getting sunlight, food, or water. Imagine any other animal never running after becoming an adult? I think it's a breeding ground for disease and immobility.
Yeh that’s a logical thought. I agree man.
Squatting heavy for reps is better cardio than real cardio
@@iMakeBangerzNo.
@@iMakeBangerz That's ridiculous. By that logic, long-distance runners and endurance athletes should all squat heavy instead of doing their road work. No man, I dare you to jump on the assault bike or do 5 min of BJJ sparring, only preparing with heavy squats.
@@pinksupremacy6076 I wasn't talking about what long-distance runners should do. I'm saying squatting heavy has a profound effect on cardio
You should start jumping rope 4-5 days per week. The benefits are massive for lower limb injury prevention. Additionally it won’t tax you, very little recovery.
Something to be said for thousands of little “mini” reps.
Yeh that’s a good idea man. No doubt it would help with all those little tendons in the foot and of course the Achilles too.
@@IvanDjuric300 I started last September. Skipped rope every day for a good few months. After the first week or two you begin to progress quickly. It’s honestly fun and addictive to an extent. Great cardio without pounding away on your joints.
My favourite episode is when you talk about “just wanting to be like your dad”. Extremely relatable for me.
All the best Ivan, you are the man
Let's get it! 🏃🏽💨💨💨
The musculotendinous junction is the most common spot for a calf tear. You should add in calf raises with a slow eccentric and a full ROM.
Didn’t know that. There you go. Must be a weak spot for all of us then.
Doing calf raises on a wedge one foot at a time is very challenging. Adding dumbbells makes this even harder but well worth it. It’s the only way I do calf raises now and it’s perfect lol
@@IvanDjuric300 I currently run 4 times and lift 4 times per week. I do calf raises full ROM twice per week without fail (both single leg and double). If I don't, I start to get calf pain. I consider them essential (and I only weigh 70kg).
Man I also started running again recently, it kills my calves/ankles, but I feel so healthy after. Gotta take it slowly though. Mid-30s too here, shit happens fast, we're not 20 anymore. I'm thinking about introducing daily calf raises.
Very happy to hear that running is back in the routine. Remember what it does to your appetite haha I'm a 6' 1, 220lbs man that loves to run and ride my bike long distances and you will eat the fridge when you get your mileage up 😅
Yeh man. It’s insane. I’ve eaten so much food today since the run. It’s crazy.
I have the opposite affect. When I run, I don’t need to eat as much. It’s really weird to me. I thought I was going to increase my food intake. But it was the opposite. I’m 5’8” at 170 lbs. lately, I’ve been doing sandbag carry’s and it has dramatically increased my food intake. I’ve put on 2 pounds in less than a week since then lol
Absolutely man haha, im around 100kg as well and Ive been slowly gettinng into running as well and the thing ive learned is you can never take it too slow when getting into running because you will need to spend a majority of time adapting your structures to it and steer clear of injuries.
Run on the beach its softer surface and its harder
man, uncanny - went jogging last weekend, first time in a year, and again this weekend, BUT super super slow, deliberately took about an hour for 5k.
Running is so fundamental, gotta be fit & strong enough to do it. Next year, I'm thinking of taking up track sprint.
Today did 200kg pin squat. Can't wait to combine squats & sprints for ultimate fitness! 😅
It's good to see that you can really express your strength effectively with the Hatfield squat. Perfectly vertical bar path; weight distributed over mid foot; and you even have some room to balance over the heel. Should you choose to incorporate eccentric work for the calves too, that would be great.
I reccomend going to a football pitch and running some sprints. Makes my squats feel like butter since ive sprinted more
I wear the same vivos as you and I love them for daily wear but not running on hard ground. Maybe some people can handle that but it's still too tough on my ankles/calves. If you want something similar to the vivos for running I would recommend Altra Escalante Racer. Just enough cushion to handle pavement but still zero drop and wide toe box. Cheers
Swimming is another great cardio exercise that is good for joints too.
Man that’s was two years ago that’s crazy felt like a couple months ago
"running, let's face it, it's plyometrics; the forces you generate..." yes... all of your weight on one foot; a little realized fact, jump rope is only half the plymoetric force, because you're bouncing off of both instead of one; so.... if you find yourself a little overweight; you wanna run, but are worried, and conclude that walking is the best idea, fair enough, but consider the jump rope until you get back down to where you can jogg again...
Yeh that’s a great idea man.
Found a massive difference between running in “normal” running trainers vs Vivos - they’re something different on the calves, tendons etc they take such a beating! When I first started wearing them a few years back I had to really build up slowly before I could go for 2-5km+ continuously in them, I imagine sprinting would be an even bigger build up. Especially if you’re running mainly on pavement or treadmills which it sounds like?
Yeh man. It’s crazy how unconditioned my lower legs are to that stress. I’m not sure if that’s good. I think we rely too much on shoes. To the point of them changing how we run and move in general.
Bro I have been running a ton lately. Took the last week off. Ran today too! Lets go, nice 5k for me felt great and like my body enjoyed the time off (still did HIIT workouts tho)
hay ivan im a runner and i just thought id say that jogging in vivo barefoots is quite harsh on ur feet/lower legs. also how they have 0 mm drop which puts more pressure on ur lower legs. modern running shoes have roughly a 6-10 mm drop depending on the shoe. sum running shoes like altra have 0 mm offset if u still want that but the sweet spot is probably 6-10
if u go to a running store like sportitude or athletes foot to get proper running shoes it will make running way easier coz ull actually get cushion and a shoe designed for running. having zero cushion and running on pavement is quite hard in vivos
if u do decide to go to a store to buy running shoes ask for the daily trainer category. popular ones out for this year are the asics novablast 4/new balance 880v14/new balance rebel v4/hoka mach 6/saucony kinvara. but tbh u just gotta go to a store and try on them to see what feels best for ur foot
Goodluck, im pretty intrigued if u keep at this running journey as a side quest to ur squatting
Hey man.
Thanks for that. Interesting to hear about all this especially from a runner. I think some proper shoes would be awesome right now. I’m heavier so the bare minimum shoes are rough as for me. My lower legs simply can’t take it.
I’ll save this comment for when I go to the shops and I’ll have a look at those shoes you mentioned.
Appreciate ya man.
Seems that when you run you step harder with one foot than the order, hence causing one calve to get more beat up than the other
How about doing the lighter Hatfields with holding on to a rope or resistance band?
If you are doing your running with the barefoot shoes your feet are not ready - running shoes exist for a reason!
cool man, i make my villi secrete almost every day
I remember that time, man. That's one reason why I play lazy basketball - I never sprint on defense and fast break.haha Don't want my fat ass increasing my risk for lower body injury.haha
algooo ivan
Tibia raises? See kneesovertoes guy/gal
Maybe jump rope instead of running looked it 8m 20 secs at a moderate pace to reach one mile. Also Olympic lifting might be a good thing since the lungs for breating
Are you landing on the ball of your foot, heel or mid foot? That kind of weight on the either the ball or heel probably isn’t good for your ankle/calves and knee (back of knee/hamstrings) respectively. I think mid foot is where you want to land, if I had to take a guess
Yeh when I jog it’s always on the ball of my foot.
@@IvanDjuric300 I used to use the ball of my foot to. I switched over to mid foot strike and it has helped a lot.
I’ve been wondering, have you tried implementing more power/ fast lifting? Like a moderate load lunge or squat with a short range of motion for the eccentric and then as fast up as possible for the concentric? It has done wonders for my strength
Cheers
Sometimes I even do it heavy and that’s when I see the most gains
Yeh I did some oly lifting earlier this year. I had a number of periods similar to that.
Have you tried knees over toes calf raises for the soleus muscle? Sounds like that is a weakness for you man… Kneesovertoesguy speaks highly of those to build strength in the lower calf/achilles
Will Ratelle style....40m dashes?

Crossfit IVAN
You’ve been in the Vivos for much longer this time (I assume you were using them last time?), so you should have built some more strength in your feet.
I’ve only got my first pair of barefoot shoes a week ago but Reddit seems to be telling me to just walk in them for a few months before even attempting running.
I just went straight in but very slow and short distance and built up. I was surprised how well it went. I thought the heel and cushioning would be a hard habit to break. Not at all.
@@stevepace-first8617 interesting. Yeah I suppose very light work makes sense as well! It is very tempting.
@@stevepace-first8617 do u jog in them? if so what pace usually and how many km's per run?
@@io-rj6sk yes. Mostly 30 mins to one hour. Mostly easy zone 2, but also top end intervals, a favorite being all out 4 minutes, rest 4 minutes, repeat 4 times. I read this is optimal for Vo2 max.
@@stevepace-first8617 how often? wat km/min pace u reckon?
u dont like traditional running shoes?
those minimalist shoes are nice for lifting but not great for running on asphalt. better get some real running shoes to prevent injury
