Wow! What a demo! Whether the gentleman is speaking or playing...he keeps me mesmerized. Thanks to his playing it opened up musical possibilities that I'd never thought of. This gentleman is an inspiration!
Congratulations! This video convinced me to purchase one of these as a gift. I am going to send them this video when I give it to them so they can see what this things can do. It looks like so much fun!
Mr Vencil I love it when I stumble upon a genuinely old school tasteful musician, that is a TRUE musician with authentic musicality and correct, heartfelt aesthetics oozing from the playing and phrasing, which you are! Stay strong, blessed, inspired, untamed.
Just ordered one today. I'm now watching videos to see what it does. Looks like it an absolute monster. The reverse mode is mindblowingly wicked. PS: Amazon promised delivery in 10 days. It arrived in 3. Great job.
Thanks, what a great demo! I love that you actually let the sounds inspire you and not just play the same riffs over and over like other people tend to do. And man, that doubler plus distortion sounds like it's great for some noise rock.
Based on your review, I went ahead and purchased one. This is the best pedal I ever owned. It is even more powerful than I thought: cascading pitches within the delay signal, multi delay with head selection, flanging/chorus modulation ... it is superb. A good turbo drive or fuzz before it and all of the tones in Meddle or even DSotM are doable - besides the rotary speakers 😉.
Sounds great Bill! Also, thank you for all of the videos you have uploaded onto UA-cam. I’ve been able to learn quite a bit about guitar tech from your content. Gratitude 🙏
This may sound crazy, but I’m considering buying this even though I have a strymon timeline. I had the single channel canyon before the timeline, and it had my favorite shimmer sound of any reverb/delay I’ve owned. This stereo version has more delay modes that all sound usable and unique, and unlike the timeline, this pedal is knob-per-function. Sometimes I just want that immediacy when I’m quickly dialing in delay settings as opposed to diving into serious sound design.
Ooh I’ll have to try it with an ebow! Great video. I’ve done a couple quick demos on my new channel but haven’t actually used the pedal much yet. It’s deep!
I like everything EHX does. Is something wrong with my brain or are they awesome. My budget cant handle this. I’ve got like at least 6 pedals from them on my “to buy” list.
Well it helps when you know your way around the fretboard Bill !and it helps that you took the time to explore all that the pedal has to offer ! It does have some real cool features!😊
Although I liked all delay types of this device, I liked "The Doubler" much more. It really sounded cool to my ears specially with the distortion you added to the signal chain. It was the sound of prog rock! And I have a request, can you make one (or more) video(s) on progressive rock? where to start, sound design, rhythmic patterns, etc. I would love to hear tips and guides about that genre.
i didn't realize it did that with the looper tails, cool! and i've had it over a year! so thanks! it's a really great pedal, but couldn't deal with the present selection either, even with adding an external switch, too hard to scroll and see the tiny leds/graphic, especially at gigs on dark stages. but i've held onto it cuz its just so fun!
Brilliant quality video as always. I was considering selling this because of the bulky power supply. But with this potential (when I am more skilled) how can I...
Wow, hearing that stereo effect is super lush! You weren't kidding when you said this version can do even more than the Canyon but I'm actually intimidated a bit by all the features. I imagine this would take me a couple of months to really learn how to use properly. One quick question for you about the Canyon - can it do the fading loops like this Grand Canyon too? Just curious as that seemed like a really nice sound.
Nothing more to say, then it is sweetness! Nice job showing its features. I liked the Shim sound the best. Wonder what chaos it would cause if there 2 of these plugged in.
i just bought one of these. thanks for the input regarding the additional power supply. i noticed this was 9.5V, so I will use the supplied wall wort when i use this. i do find this pedal not as user friendly as other pedals, but i am happy with the sounds it creates
I don't think it was the voltage he was refering too. It clearly says 9v on the pedal. Its the mA thats odd at 150mA. Most power supplys are around 80mA
I have just found your channel, and you have fantastic content! If it was your money, what would you go for: mxr carbon copy deluxe, source audio Nemesis, EHX Grand canyon, or Strymon El capistan?
i was about to pull the trigger on the 30" VM Jazzmaster, but then it sold out, and here in EU it can't be found 2nd hand. starting from square one, so gotta ask: how do you feel about the baris from schecter, ibanez? i noticed you stick with prs most of the time, is there a reason other than good quality? also been hearing good things about danelectro baris but can't find one in the store to try out, don't wanna risk ordering online when i won't be sure if i like how it feels or sounds on my rig. thoughts?
I don't really have an opinion about Schecter or Ibanez baritones, other than they seem to be marketed to the metal side of things. Which is fine, but that is not me. I also have a preference for semi-hollow / chambered bodies and P90 / low output humbuckers, which 2 of my PRS baris fulfill.
Hi Bill, you have a great channel. Thanks for all the demos. I am currently looking for a versatile delay that will give me everything a delay can offer plus more fun effects, and I like the idea of having a looper built in! I am between the Grand Canyon and the DD-500. Any recommendation are welcome. Thank you!
Thanks for a great demo. How would you rate this against the tc electronics x4 pedal. I see you reviewed them both. I have to decide which one to buy. Thanks!
I currently have 'Ocean machine -> Blue sky -> ditto mini' as my last three pedals of the chain. I'm thinking of replacing all three with the EHX grand canyon. I'd be really happy to hear the opinions of anyone who sees this comment. Bless ya!
Very nice demo. I’ve never got on with loopers. I note that you mentioned ‘record mode’. Does it start recording the moment you start playing without having to count in before hitting the button? Hope that makes sense.
No - it starts recording when you press the foot switch. If you are looking to do loops in time, there is a little bit of practice involved to get it smooth.
Love your playing and as always, great in depth demos. Have you used any of the OBNE pedals? They are very interesting and offer different sounds not found in other pedals.
I have reached out to them a couple of times to see if they would be interested in sending out a demo unit, but they have never gotten back. And since their pedals are all mono, they are of less interest for me to purchase.
Chords Of Orion I just received 3 OBNE pedals. Visitor, Whitecap and Rever. I’d be happy to ship them to you at my cost so you can tinker around and review them as long as you would agree to ship them back to me at your cost.
Not at all - I use an old EV Cardinal microphone (above the camera), running into a ART Pro MPA tube mic preamp. From there, the signal goes into my computer's audio interface into Logic Pro. I mix and master it with the guitar track (which recorded through my amp modeler. Once I export the mix, I pull it into Final Cut and sync it with the video's camera audio, which is then muted. Hope that makes sense.
The TC Mimiq and Styrmon Deco do great doubler effects. For a delay pedal, you would probably want something that has a "dual" delay type along with delay modulation. Set it to a very short delay time and feedback all the way down.
I'm also interested in that. The Strymon doubles the price of the Grand Canyon, but has stereo input and MIDI and that's a big plus if you are interested in using it not just with a guitar but also with a synth (my case). Both are incredible pedals.
Could you explain how to record a loop, according to the settings of TAP DIV in LOOPER mode? How to get symmetry in the playback once the loop is recorded?
Probably best to look at the Grand Canyon manual. It's a lot better than me trying to write a comment. Here's the link: www.ehx.com/products/grand-canyon/instructions
They are both wonderful pedals, but they do have some differences in features. What are the most important things you are looking for in a delay? If you can determine that, it will help you make a decision as you compare the features.
The tape delay is not really long enough for effective "Frippertronics". That being said, the looper on the Grand Canyon is one of the absolute best "Frippertronics" features out there. Turn the overdub level down below 100%, and you got it. You can also combine the frippertronics loop with any of the delay types for even more goodness.
Hey Bill, another great video. Quick question: Does your Mod delay setting make ring mod sounds like mine does? It's almost like the distortion from delay 1 is bleeding over to delay 2. ??? Thanks, I have no one else to compare notes with...
Glad to see Ser Davos getting work post-GoT
pdg887 if he opened w the thrones theme song I woulda freaked

Listening to this with my mixing headphones... gawd the stereo delay effects are sooooooooooooo awesome sounding !
It is big for sure!
What headphones would you suggest for this pedal?
the loop at the end almost brought me to tears -- really emotional
Very cool, Bill. I didn’t realize that the looper could be set up to do loop decay. That makes this pedal much more interesting to me.
Eric Bittner i always loved that about the dl4 and now i love it about grand canyon
Yes - when I found that out - wow!!!
That just found its way onto my board. Incredible tonal possibilities. I use it with my guitars and basses. Sounds great on both.

This demo is great, you're great, and Chords of Orion is great! Keep up the good work!
I enjoyed this presentation so much, I'm subscribing.
I'm glad we get both pro's and con's.
Man, I’ve learned so much from your channel. I play a lot of ambient style stuff in my post punk band. Cheers!
Great to hear! Thanks!!
But honestly man, I have rarely seen a musician rock a delay pedal like that. You really know your stuff.
I love your playing on this, you showcase the pedal better than most of the other vids on here. Excellent work
Sounds great Bill! Also, thank you for all of the videos you have uploaded onto UA-cam. I’ve been able to learn quite a bit about guitar tech from your content. Gratitude 🙏
Just got a Grand Canyon myself. Lots of delay fun.

Best guitar channel.

@@chordsoforion I exactly meant that old school scene. I'm not sure about the band names but the era of Rare Bird or King Crimson.
You had me at the frippertronics.
Ser Davos thank you for demostrate this pedal
I really wish the lite version of this pedal (and cheaper model), Canyon, had a doubler feature! That sound is super incredible.

Well , since the input is mono, might be better to plug a canyon in front. Wait a minute - I have a Canyon! Heh, heh, heh... 😎
I have the single version of the Canyon and it’s great. This deluxe must really be a wonderful gear.

I was to buy the Canyon but after you demo I feel I have to spare a lot more money :D
Can someone explain why someone would need any pedal other than this?
Will you please stop making these videos? My pedal board is full!

just loving this pedal bill, tnx 4 the heads up on spec/fx.thank you.....
I'd like to see a demo of this with the cathedral or the oceans 12.

Better than the Timeline?
Awesome pedal but I absolutely love the PRS baritone!

It's a piece of some of my stuff. And the tuning is the same as the rest of the video - "baritone standard" BEADF#B. Thanks!

Ok that's great but this isn't the only stereo pedal that will be on my board. Why do companies not have stereo in as well. Very frustrating.
Couldn't agree more. After overdrive, and maybe pitch shifting, my rig goes all stereo inputs and outputs so can't use this, unfortunately.
