I am amazed that it even broke the sound barrier, as it's incredibly difficult to get the front-swept winged airplane to fly that stable during supersonic flight speed, surprisingly up to Mach 1.6 which is crazy for the front-swept wing design and don't get me wrong, I am actually impressed. And I wouldn't be surprised if it makes a comeback especially in a certain variable geometry front-swept wing hypersonic jet fighter (think Stealth movie), as it may be one of a few fuel efficient way to stretch fuel mileage a bit as apparently military is starting to actually care about how much fuel they're burning.
Yes, completely fly by wire. Although not shown in this videoclip, it makes it very very manoeuvrable. Very impressive roll rate for its size and weight.
este avión no es el primero que tiene el ala en flecha invertida. A finales de los 60 y principios de los 70 la casa alemana HBF produjo el Hansa Jet 320, con capacidad de 6(?) pasajeros y 2 tripulantes.
The real story is an aerospace engineer brought home a model of a new aircraft in his briefcase and his son found it and broke off the wings playing with it and snapped them back on backwards and put it back and the next day the engineer went to give his presentation and was horrified but the wind tunnel supervisor was intrigued and gave it a try...
Now imagine it's capabilities if it could sweep the wing. A great fighter if it worked
Looks like an f5 with forward swept wings
It actually IS an F5 with forward swept wings.
@@blablubb12345 *F-20
They used an F5 as a base design.
The F5 is so awesome! This is F5 taken to the next level! Go NASA!
it is - only the front end is new - they used a tiger shark body to save money at grumman
3 of these were built, and i got to touch 2 of them. Memories.

I didn't know they made more than one.
It's pretty interesting how apparently it would be completely unflyable without the computer making 40 adjustments a second

Thank you so much for sharing!! Go NASA! ❤❤❤
F5 airframe with backwards facing wings, epic.
I wish more x planes succeeded
They kind of do, this was a test bed for 5th gen.
Beautiful Airplane 💓 Super sleek.
Alexander Theissl my dad is an engineer and built the engine!!! ;0;
Audio problem? Use Dolby audio enhancement software!
what is the year of this film?
The 90s
Probably 1990 or 1991 since the narrator said “for the past six years...” and this bird first flew in ‘84.
Wait till the entire form factor of commercial flight changes then remember that NASA pioneered that prior. Go Aeronautics! (and Space) ❤
What kind of superalloys did NASA have in the 1980’s? What do they have now?
Composites
todos los mejores ( o la mayoría de ellos ) aparátos se diseñáron o proyectáron en los años 90 , entre ellos el SAIA-90 ARGENTÍNO !!!
This is a perfect plane for Thunderbirds. We can still make this considering computers of today and their powers for correction.
Une cellule de F-5, un réacteur de F/A-18 et un train d'atterrissage de F-16, voici le X-29!
The audio is HORRIBLE on this.
The person who mixed this was clearly not aware of compressors.
This was totally not made in the 90s
@@tobee_gamer5816 First flight 14 December 1984

Though those were probably Not as Extreme with Degree of sweep as this
Tengo una duda esta armado sobre el fuselaje de un f20 o f 5 lo veo mas como f 20
Se parece mucho
Es un prototipo a partir del F-20
