I just picked up a 99 Polaris sport 400 2 stroke which is pretty much a scrambler without the 4wd.
Love the thing! 2 strokes 4ever!!

A good sounding all around power pipe I'd go with a DG pipe. Rick Ritter has all the go fast parts.

Na dont get dg they suck.get hpd or hot seat performance. Or rcr if you have to. Hpd would be my first stop for racing mods.get v force reeds and 42mm carb.and take airbox lid off and put kand n in there

Cool race. Yeah, the YZF 450 is, in all practicality, a built from the factory, high revving 4-stroke. As far as creating top horsepower, the Scrambler 400 2-stroke will easily make more horsepower when modded. But, then it's gonna still be heavier, but at the same time, it will easily make more than enough horsepower to overcome the extra weight and win in a straight line.
I like both quads. I used to have a Trail Boss 250. I could always smoke my friends on things like Honda Ranchers and even Foreman 400's. I would get beat on top end by my one friend's Honda 500. I don't know the model, it was some kind of Utility ATV. Mine was bone stock, but so were theirs.

shure big power outta scrambler when modded but then less reliable and puts more stress on the trans and chain drive the longer the race the more and more a gear box bike wins by

I modded that quad even more and would beat 400ex, 750 king quad, and even took out a Banshee with it. My wife would hurt a lot a guys feeling with it and won many 🏆.

i figured that 400 2 stroker would have run all over the 4 stroke. Those old scramblers were really a sport bike with added 4wd chain drive. i rode one many years ago and it was wicked fast for its time period. i felt it would outrun my honda 400ex easily.
    nice race i enjoyed

@@whosurdaddyds650 I bought a nice 99 400 4wd. I've sold it already. But it was bone stock and I could smoke a 400ex. I beat one with a 440 kit too. Stock scrambler with stock pipe. It was a cool machine for sure ! But I sold it for twice what I bought it for and went back to riding motorcycles. But I now know with pipe and few mods they will absolutely scream! But I need a good trail quad for the Kentucky mountians and the 2 stroke wasn't real great at crawling up rough trails with no low range. It could do it but it was pretty hard on it .

@@JohnnyRebKy I bet. Took a sport quad to Hatfield and McCoy trails and big mistake. Low ground clearance hurt me on them rocks. I tell u what woke it up was a lightened fly wheel. It would take off like a rocket after that.

@@whosurdaddyds650 yep I've been there and black mountian KY many times on a 400ex. I went everywhere the 4wd boys went . But i grew up on sport quads only. Gotta use momentum and the throttle just right. Clutch control. If your used to racing then going to the mountians with one could be a handful lol. But again I grew up riding them on rough stuff. They just require a whole different techniques to get up them rock crawls and stuff. But it can be done 👍. Like when ground clearance is a problem you have to wheelie over the rock or log so only the back tires hit and go over it. Logs are easy but big rocks take some experience. 400ex was a great machine I had mine for 14 years and beat the shit out of it. Never let me down . But couldn't none of my freinds ride it on things I rode it on. They all had to have big 4wd. I had to adapt and learn how to go where they could go and even more . I've shot up some hills they couldn't make on the 4wd lol. I'd never had anything but a sport quad so it's all I knew how to ride . But I'm 37 years old now I couldn't ride a 400 like that anymore. But rough mountian riding on a sport quad is all about momentum and rapidly on and off the throttle

I don't know why Polaris didn't use there 340 or 440 snowmobile motors in these ? With snowmobile motors, they wood still be ahead of the competition today

Too wide. With a single cylinder and the cvt it's already wide, add another air cooled jug and it'd be massive. Packaging constraints on an ATV just make it impractical.

Once mine blows up more than needing just a piston definitely putting a Polaris tripple in it won't fit good at all but I've seen worse work out

Tip if your racing those polaris scramblers if it has 4x4, take on in 4x4 so it pulls with all 4 wheels and doesn't spin then switch it off when your going
