How To Create A 5.1 Audio Mix In Adobe Premiere Pro CC
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2016
- In this tutorial, narrative and documentary film editor James K. Crouch shows us how to properly set up and configure Adobe Premiere Pro CC to work with 5.1 audio mixes. He explains what stems are, how to map them to the correct tracks, how to assign the correct audio channel outputs to tracks in your sequence, how to export the 5.1 audio mix, plus much more.

OMG THANK YOU!!!! SERIOUSLY. You saved my bacon when I was desperately searching for a simple explainer on how to export the sound mixer files into something that would work in 5.1 and couldn't find a darn thing ANYWHERE. You are a life SAVER!
Was here two years when making a 5.1 mix down for my first narrative feature film, now back for my next effort. Thanks!
was looking for this tutorial almost a year, finally found, thank you 🙏 cheers.
very helpful ty
How to rendering wrap to dcp for 5.1...
Nice tutorial. Really useful for me. Thank you very much.
hi.sir
Excuse. Does what u did is the Dolby 5.1 tech? I can't hear the sound track except the track 1and 2 if I not change the standard to mono.why?sir please tell me some...
Thank you! Really helpfull and easy to understand!
I wanna ask that if i have a normal 2.1 audio, can they be mixed and edited to 5.1? On premiere pro or audition??
If I want to render as DCP, premiere doesn't give me the option to change the output channels. I can only choose between 5.1 and stereo. What should I do in this case?
Thanks for this tutorial.
Thank you so much man! Saved my urgent problem.
This is very helpful. However, I can't seem to hear channel 5 and 6. What am I missing?
You really helped me, thank you!!!
Will this method work when you're exporting to Blu-ray?
How did you get audio stems with l,c,r,bl,br,subwoofer? Did you create each of those before bringing into premiere?
Thanks so much! It really helped.🙆
Thank You So Much !
You saved my day
Thank you for your video! I'd like to export a video in H264 (not Quicktime / ProRes), with a 5.1 Audio Mix, but I can't figure out how (the options available are not the same). Is that possible? Thank you!
Not sure if you ever got an answer, but in the export window, once you select your video settings, you should find "Channels" under "Basic Audio Settings" and set to "5.1"
thank you very much !! Finally it works !!! Do you think we should do the same with a mix with only 3 channels L C R and nothing on the 3 other ones ?
I heard that the Coen Brothers dont like Adobe 7.1 so they do a 5.1 mix in 7 channels, and leave 2 channels empty. so I haven't tried what you want to do, but I guess it would work. also. hi from three years in to the future!
I don't see 6 channels only 2. Followed instructions in this video to the letter. It must be something I'm doing wrong. Is there a setting I should be aware of?
but i can hear all track when i export it from premiere.
really useful
I don't think the panning settings are correct here. Sub and Center channels should not be panned. They should be left at 0.
it isn't that they are panned left and right. This no longer acts as a Pan for left and right, it acts to assign output3 (centre) and output4 (sub), this only appears as a Pan knob because Premire is used to working with stereo outputs ie 3+4 being L+R. Its a little convoluted because I think premire does support mono output channels past what appears in the timeline to be 'mono', or if it doesn't it damn well should do.
@@KarlClarkeMusic so if the surround order is different (C, L, R, Ls, Rs, LFE) would I still start with audio track one panned to the Left (for center) and audio track to panned to the right (for the L surround stem)? Honestly, after exporting it for H264 (that doesn't offer audio channel configs in export), it sounded like I should have kept center and LFE at 0 (in the center).
@@marsroberge4647 It really depends what your output system uses, this was a while ago that I made the comment, pretty sure workflows for 5.1 have come a long way since 2016. If you have 6 outputs you need to pan them towards that specific output. ie, if you have 6 channels you need to output alternating -100 +100, LFE should be panned +100 to output only to channel 6. It being left at 0 would mean it comes out equally between 5 and 6.
Thanks, that was my question, too. And thanks to Karl for answering.
Tyler Joseph at 8:10, what were you shooting?
it was awesome.
how you delete "in out point"beyond?
In my export settings, it doesn't appear there is an option in H264 for "Audio Channel Configuration", meaning I can't select the order of my stems for the 5.1 export. The standard 5.1 output it is creating is C, L, R, Ls, Rs, LFE. How can I match it to your settings without this option?
i have the same problem
thanx guys :) helpful even today... :)
How would I use this routing technique to add 2 more channels - LtRt as requested by many companies?
This is my exact question. My output should be
Track 1: Stereo L
Track 2: Stereo R
Track 3 - 6: Secondary Language and M&E (which I'm leaving empty)
Then from 7- 12 what's described in the video.
What I don't know is what export settings I should use for it to come out correct.
This reply may be arriving way too late, but the steps for adding more than 6 channels is very similar to the steps shown in the video. When you are creating a sequence and setting the audio to Multichannel, add however many extra tracks you need (as shown at 4:30 in the video where he is adding extra tracks). In your case, you would add tracks until you had 8 total, and change the Number of Channels to 8. Set them all to Mono and choose their output assignments the same as is described in the video (tracks 7 and 8 to 7-8, etc).
If you want to save yourself a little time, you can slide the Pan/Balance slider inside of this same New Sequence window instead of routing the channels as he does at 7:30 in the Audio Track Mixer in the video. Make sure to slide the Pan/Balance bar all the way to the left for odd numbered channels (-100), and all the way to the right for even numbered channels (100).
Create your sequence and add your tracks. When you go to export, follow the same steps as shown in the video, except instead of choosing "5.1" in the "Output Channels" dropdown (at 8:30 in the video), choose "8 Channels", or however many tracks you have on your sequence. Below this dropdown, make sure that the Channel Layout is set to "Mono". This will turn each track into a discrete mono track, which any company will be able to work with to create Blu-rays, DCPs, or whatever the heck they need to do. Hope this helps!
PS: If you do a Google search for "the video road multichannel audio in premiere pro", the first result should be a very extensive blog post that has a step-by-step breakdown of how this multichannel stuff works. Another helpful video is "Export Multichannel Audio in Premiere Pro" by PremiumBeat.com.
Actual tutorial starts at 3:46... just save time so you don’t have to listen to the autobio dialogue at the start
if this works it's an amazing video, thanks! (will try tomorrow)
thanks.
Gwad bless you!!!
It is rediculous that Premiere does not have a panner in 5.1 able to send the subchannel to the subchannel output. This way works but you cannot hear the 5.1 mix in stereo folddown. PLEASE write Adobe to change this!!
Is diz the same method to create 7.1
Great tutorial, but what if I have 7 channels: Mix, L, R,C, LFE, LS, RS?
hii there...
i was working on my project...i followed step by step and i am unable to listen up Center audio channel only on my timeline but it is showing in Audio Meter...
please help me out...
underneath the meters there are little circles. those let you select which channels you want to monitor.
I'm having the same problem. My center track audio is not audible. I can see it in the audio meters window but I don't hear it. And it has the VO which is essential. Any ideas?
Ah! I found it. In the Audio Meters window you need to turn on the buttons to monitor all tracks! This process is really not intuitive. Adobe needs a better way of doing this.
But can you tell how to get those sounds ..
Hello thanks for this. Ain't the audio 3 and 4 supposed to be 12 o'clock?
it isn't that they are panned left and right.
@@KarlClarkeMusic thanks a lot
Does this still work in 2022?
yes
This video goes into more depth on inserting dolby 5.1 tracks AND the LtRt stereo mix into a premiere sequence. The workflow is a little bit easier for just a 5.1 mix also ua-cam.com/video/-414ktpqnqw/v-deo.html
3rd and 4th channels r center and lfr, k,
Then y u put it to only left side and right side, they need both side freequency, i dont understand dat.
Why can't I see the panning faders?
Don't quote me on this, but I don't think they are necessary anymore. Seems like I got surround with out the fader.
Thank you
79.68 gb file? sheesh exporting a feature length?
The 3rd "C" channel I think should have been left untouched, now it's made into a left channel, when usually the "C" has nearly all the sounds in it and it's "C" or Center for a reason. LFE track I think also is in the center.
Or do separate them into 100 and -100 so it could become a stereo track, if surround isn't there?...
Otherwise thank you for this video will give the multitrack a go, because I have a file with 6 mono tracks, they all represent different channels but when exporting Premiere didn't allow me to export it as 5.1.
No, the video is correct. It´s not about panning, it´s about routing. All Channels are routed to twin outputs (1/2..3/4...5/6)
By routing ("panning") them left/right you gonna chooce a single output... output 3 is hard left and output 4 is hard right.
Hey so, If I change the order to LCRLsRsLFE, then should the routing change too and if so should I make other changes too?
Thank you! I thought so and was verrrry confused...
its doesent work :(
I must to thak you...I save this link on my desktop. I would like to explain better but my English is not good enough. Please, if you came to Rome (at the end of pandemy) contact me (save my contact). I will be your free guide for all the day. I owe you a favor.
