Paul's famous Hoffner bass. When they first came to the U.S. and were on Ed Sullivan (old black and white TV in the early '60's; I'm 69 now!) I was just a kid who liked them a lot. I later in my teens became a big fan. Anyhow, I often wandered why Paul played his guitar on the "opposite side" of everyone else. Stevie Wonder or Eivets Rednow was or is pretty great as well. Did you know he recorded a song under the name Eivets Rednow? Or Stevie Wonder backwards. He wanted to see if people loved his music or if his being blind was a pity Stevie kind of thing. True story...

You're John Lennon, you have all these disagreements with Paul, relationship at an all time low, etc... but then when there's music to be made he records your song with you playing all these instruments, godlike vocal armonies and makes the song sound great. How can you not love this guy? it's impossible. I totally love John and his music, but Paul deserves sooo much credit. Genius isn't a big enough word to describe Paul's talent.
Geoff Emerick's book (after describing how dire some sessions were): "On this one day, they reverted to being two old school chums, all the nastiness of recent months swept under the rug... It was a great session, one of those magic times when everything went right and nothing went wrong. The whole record was completed in just a few hours, from start to finish, including the mix --- just like the good old days.... they made for a great two-man band. It was so refreshing to see Paul and John in good spirits and not arguing."
This song has nothing to do with the Beatles. It's John's indulgence, propped up by Paul playing the instruments. Hardly a classic rock or love song, nothing more than a travelogue. Not as easy to forget as many would like.
True story: John and Paul did this song. John played guitar and Paul played drums. John turns to Paul and says, Go a bit faster, RINGO! Paul replies, Okay, GEORGE!
Ringo was in Sardinia when this was recorded. When you became a Beatle "Expert" better do some research. they did everything with NO ONE else in the room.

One of the best original song recorded in the spur of a moment when the composer still feel the spirit of the song. Yeah emotion is needed even by one of the greatest singers ever.
This song was recorded without George Harrison (who was on holiday) and Ringo Starr (who was filming The Magic Christian). McCartney recalls that Lennon had a sudden inspiration for the song and had suggested that the two of them should record it immediately, without waiting for the other Beatles to return. John Lennon - lead vocal, lead guitars, acoustic guitar, percussion Paul McCartney - harmony vocal, bass, drums, piano, maracas
What an awesome band, making this song and sounding like all of them were there in the studio. The Beatles were just the best band to come out of the 60's.
As a teenager I played this song so many times, loved it, Lennon was still alive and there was always that change they would re-unite on stage once more. Terrific video.
@@GrosvnerMcaffrey Well they did, kind of. When they did the anthology series in 1994, Paul, George and Ringo came together and added instrumental and vocal overdubs to two John songs, Free As A Bird and Real Love. So basically it was like a Beatles reunion and a tribute to John, even though he was gone, his voice was still there. Also Ringo and Paul later did a cover of John’s song “Grow Old With Me”. They were originally thinking of doing this for the anthology but sadly decided not to go through with it.

"The man in the mac said 'You got ta go back'." has always been my favorite line of this song - for years I thought he sang "The Man and the Mac...", referring to authorities and Paul. Only when I learned that a mac(intosh) is a raincoat did the line make real sense to me, and for that reason it has stuck with me since.

Made a lightning trip to Vienna
Eating chocolate cake in a bag
The newspapers said, "She's gone to his head

Crucifix*
The Beatles are the best band ever. I listen to this song every day. Never tire of it. This song would be a top 5 hit even today.
Yes. Well it was no. 1 then, after all.
A Beatles song every day is good. Never a bad one. Even,'You Know My Name,Look Up The Number'.🇬🇧📻
This is the song I like among many songs from the Beatles loop
Omg! It’s so funny when folks say that. Until the next one comes along. As Sonny and Cher would say; “The Beat Goes On”! 🤣🤣😊😊
What a hit? Nobody buys records anymore
"Last night the wife said. oh boy when your dead, you won't take nothing with you but your soul." One of my favorite lyrics of all time. It truly is revealing.
Songs like this make love Lennon

Are you sure you get to take your soul with you?
They're gonna crucify me is also quite revealing.
@@jonnysupreme hey, I read it when John sang it, thanks!
Considering this song was done by John Lennon and Paul McCartney with no Ringo or George Harrison, it's amazing. They certainly were phenomenal in every way.
The Nurk Twins ...
Hell, Paul has made THREE entire albums where he wrote every song and played EVERY instrument!
@@baviation1872 Paul was the best bassist, guitarrist, singer and drummer of the Beatles; a brilliant musician. His biggest fault were his sometimes lousy lyrics.
The beatles, the best in 1964 and the best in 2022. I still listen to their music all the time. They are just as relevant today as they were in the 60's. Their message of peace and love will never be obsolete. Its timeless. Love and peace is what everyone wants. Love u Beatles.

The Beatles were so good, it literally makes me cry sometimes. Not in a sad "we'll never have music this good again" way, but in a happy way. Stevie Wonder is also pretty great.
Decoy Account I’m both sad we’ll never have it again but I’m glad and thankful that we have it now.
Stevie Wonder or
Eivets Rednow was or is pretty great as well.
Did you know he recorded a song under the name Eivets Rednow? Or Stevie Wonder backwards.
He wanted to see if people loved his music or if his being blind was a pity Stevie kind of thing. True story...
How do you het Stevie Wonder out of The Beatles? Stevie is really great. But We will have The Beatles music for eternity as well as solo Beatles.
Stevie is a genius
Music good enough to create that feeling comes along every couple decades or so; I feel the same way about Elliott Smith. If you’re looking for some Beatles-level songwriting and arrangements, check out his albums XO and Figure 8

Can't imagine life after WW 2 without The Beatles songs.Tq Paul Ringo John & George RIP
They ALL deserve so much credit. And they all get it. There is no underrated Beatle except Ringo and George Martin
What an addictive song
Here the same😊
Did Yoko sing in this?
"The way things are going
They’re gonna crucify me." is quite the prophetic lyric.
Such a masterpiece of music...the bass, the drums, guitar, piano, vocals, lyrics, all top notch....
The morph of the Beatles in just six years was just incredible!
Musically and appearance wise.
Just incredible.

I keep listening to that song over and over again. This is such a beautiful song
It's so easy to forget this is actually a Beatles song.
Paul and John - The Ballad of John and Yoko
the music is good
This song has nothing to do with the Beatles. It's John's indulgence, propped up by Paul playing the instruments.
Hardly a classic rock or love song, nothing more than a travelogue. Not as easy to forget as many would like.

This song was recorded without George Harrison (who was on holiday) and Ringo Starr (who was filming The Magic Christian). McCartney recalls that Lennon had a sudden inspiration for the song and had suggested that the two of them should record it immediately, without waiting for the other Beatles to return.
John Lennon - lead vocal, lead guitars, acoustic guitar, percussion
Paul McCartney - harmony vocal, bass, drums, piano, maracas

I've read that during a take John said to Paul(on drums) "Go a bit faster, Ringo!", and Paul replied "Ok, George!". Oh, to be a fly on the wall.....

As a teenager I played this song so many times, loved it, Lennon was still alive and there was always that change they would re-unite on stage once more. Terrific video.
No one expects to be murdered. I wish Paul George and Ringo got together for a tribute or something

The Beatles caught a particular zeitgeist I don't believe any musical group ever did or will again.

“They look just like two gurus in drag”. Best line.
Paul D'Argent, I said I'm only tryin to get me some peace, has my vote.
"The man in the mac said 'You got ta go back'." has always been my favorite line of this song - for years I thought he sang "The Man and the Mac...", referring to authorities and Paul.
