  • The Song of Songs (or the KJV, Song of Solomon) is a mystical love poem written on many levels.
On it's surface it is an erotic courtship and marriage manual, written in the guise of a play or musical, with 2 main characters and a chorus which serves as a foil for questions and insight.
As part of Holy Scripture, is has been percieved as an alegory of God's love for Israel by Jewish commentator. However, as part of the completed scripture, is must (in some way) point to the Messiah, since Jesus declared that "the volume of the scripture was written about Him" (Heb. 10:7) we are obligated to discover how we might find Jesus in the Song of Songs.
Viewing this portion as how Jesus draws us (collectively and individually) with His complete, perfect, and non-condemning love unlocks the full mystery of this book (but does not remove or diminish the other layers.) We find in this Song of Songs a blueprint for how Jesus views us as perfect, lovely, and beloved -- with no complaints, issues, or criticism.
