      The SpecOps guys were issued with with pistols like the Wellrod with integral suppressors that became less effective the more rounds were fired, but if the right subsonic ammo was used, on the 1st few shots people standing in the same vicinity, would only hear a slight pop if the weapon was fired close to them.

    To answer the silencer question:
    1) The first patent was 1906 by the son of the guy who invented the Maxim machine gun (If I remember correctly)
    2) Both axis and allies used silencers in limited numbers. They were either a tube with a few funnels (actual funnels not any fancy baffles) inside (maybe just three) or a few rubber wipes.
    3) The silencers were plagued by many issues:
    a) the rubber wipes lasted only a few shots and didn't perform well at all in cold temperatures, in particular on the Eastern Front.
    b) they were not very effective at actually silencing the shots, but made it still much harder to detect the position of the shooter. Still taking out a sentry or dog silently was impossible!
    c) they tended to overheat and have gasses being pressed back into the ejection port and irritate your eyes.
    d) any self-loading gun could become unreliable with a silencer mounted
    e) they didn't have bigger or heavier rounds for shooting subsonic, but used regular length barrels and regular ammunition, just with maybe 2/3rds of the powder charge removed! The results were obviously lackluster, both in external ballistics and terminal ballistics (massive bullet drop, little effect on impact)
    Due to all these factors, crossbows and rubber-powered devices were occasionally used by special operators (these weapons had a lethality on par with an FMJ 45 ACP and were silent enough to take out sentries). However, snipers and resistance fighters were often given those primitive silencers. Probably snipers using regular rounds (and bolt action rifles) had the most to win from using suppressors, but that's not how they were intended to be used...

    • @edi9892
      @edi9892 Рік тому +2

      @@user-yy7tw9hv9n not really. A medieval windlass crossbow has insane poundage, but the kinetic energy of the projectile is AFAIK no more than that of a powerful modern compound bow. It all depends on how much of the stored energy you can transfer into the projectile and how much of the energy the projectile can transfer into the target... It's a similar story with the giant musket balls compared to 5.56mm... (though 5.56 is not always better).

    • @dark2023-1lovesoni
      @dark2023-1lovesoni Рік тому +3

      Autoloading firearms usually function better with suppressors, not worse. The extra back pressure usually assists the extraction/ejection and they tend increase the rate of fire on fully automatic weapons.
      Also, the common way that subsonic was achieved using standard loaded ammunition is through barrel porting. The Welrod, DeLisle, HDM, and M3 Grease gun suppressors are all good examples of this (the modern MP5sd also uses this technique). Once the barrel is ported it acts like having a short barrel and prevents the round from achieving super sonic velocity.

    • @edi9892
      @edi9892 Рік тому

      @@dark2023-1lovesoni My point was about the gun not being made for the attachment originally. You need to tune the gas pressure/recoil and in case of the barrel moving as well take the added mass into account. Some guns are really bad at performing both with and without that attachment.

    As far as I am aware the Maxim Silencer was a pre WW1 patent and did exist.
    SOE and OSS did produce a number of suppressed weapons, suppressors. Sten, Grease Guns, a few others come to mind quickly. Welrod and Delisle carbines as well.
    Beyond that I don't think there was a lot of suppressor usage in general, even on the Axis side. I can only think of one Soviet suppressor and one Axis suppressor.
    This game and its customisation system has gone well and truly overboard and over the top. It's offering a lot of what I think we've only seen in more modern games, come out in the last twenty or thirty years. I know I've got a set up that's perhaps a bit too custom, too freeform. To unrealistic for this old grognard of the series. And this title hasn't given me a nice Smelly too.

    i just want to point out that these clips where made on the cadet difficulty.
    on “authentic plus” (or at least the SE5 equivalent, i can only play SE4), there’s NO hud whatsoever and the enemies have a brain. you have to consider bullet drop, wind, and have to mark every target to know how much you have to recalibrate your scope to compensate for the distance. holding your breath only steadies your scope instead of giving you that slowing time down thing. every item only has one magnification because there was no fancy “moving lenses around and staying zero” thing. forget the minimap or the things above enemies heads when they get alerted.

You don't know if or when any of those stones would just break, slip out, your hands might slip, the bridge might shake

The welrod comes to mind. the tech was very primitive. instead of steel inside that we have now. they used rubber baffles to be shot through inside the supressor. the rubber baffles would seal the gasses after the bullet came out. its design made it so it had to be replaced after 10-15 shots before the wipes or baffles of rubber was non effective in sound supression

    Not too easy without Silencer . . . Of course, Call of Duty WWII has silencer in every SMG weapons type and I don't remember about using Sniper with a Silencer on it or not but only I remember the Battlefield 1 during Night Stealth Mission on Story Campaign Mode. #WorldWarI #WorldWarII

    Do you play Ground Branch? That's the hardest one I've found and I can't remember if I've seen you play that one. I've ditched the idea of playing at lot of these games in favor of Ready or Not and Ground Branch.

    I always say this game has some hints of realism, but it's mostly sensation and arcade action.
    It's just some casual fun for me, i even play easy level.

    something this "sniper" forgot is....this is the portrayal during the O.S.S. days during World War 2
    ironically the first war was called "the great war" and the second is colloquially called "the big one"

    Surpressors were a thing but not heavily used. In WW era, it just people just running and shooting at each other, no time for stealth

    would love to have a redeux on this where it was on hardcore settings. Worth it, so the sniper could see bullet drop/wind , as well as AI intelligence realism etc.
    Also they did have silencers but they sucked, lol. The Welrod pistol was fairly used. Large caliber weapons not so much

    Yes the British used welrods and silenced stens even an experimental silenced carbine (not suppressors) they during ww2

  • @vietnguyenhoang5795
    @vietnguyenhoang5795 Рік тому

    Silencers and suppressors were invented way before ww2.The very own inventor of the Maxim machine gun,Hiram Maxim,invented it.They were kinda useless in ww1 though,as silenced rifles back then were loud as hell and those smgs and carbines fired too many rounds for suppressors to handle.They proved better use in ww2,with 2 british weapons(rare ones)for commandos like the De Lisle Commando Carbine and Welrod pistol were both very effective ones using suppressors for sound reduction.Of course,you must be over 50m for the sound to be completely silent,but I think that's the best human can reach when decades earlier you were just using rifles and marching to fire in lines.
