Also you’re right, the 00s wasn’t particularly known to be a golden era for comedy or something, dunno why somebody said that, they’re probably nostalgic for a decade they weren’t really around for. However, people that critique this film also need to realize that this was essentially a children’s film.....even though most (if not all) of the actual funny impressions, references, and scenes would only really be understood by adults. I think that’s where the film went wrong, they couldn’t decide if they wanted this to be a child’s film, a teenager film, or an adult film....so they made it a sort of oddball “family film” and by trying to please everybody, they, for the most part, pleased nobody.
i did the "Indianapolis" monologue for a theatre class in college and my wife (before we even started dating) mentioned this movie and scene. She'd never seen Jaws but knew this scene. i died. it's so great.

What is even more funny if you read up on the Indianapolis indecent, it was reported by survivors that the sharks (what we are talking about here) were not killing the living. They were just fine with eating the dead. Me gets the feeling you complain a lot.
