    Most people think filing your nails is easy - but it isn’t. Nails are imperfect, with nail texture, shape, micro nicks, curving, compound curving, etc. I used to think it was simple, just using a sawing motion and going back and forth, but it’s so much more to that. TY Ana for teaching us.

    Thank you Anna, I always enjoy the nail shaping videos. I do like your technique of lifting the edges, instead of just rounding. That is how I have always filed my nails when doing what I call a squoval shape. I think the slightly arched shape that results from filing this way is what makes it universally flattering.

    I have also switched to dry manicures because of you! I don't scrape off my nails now because they used to be so soft from the water and cuticle remover solution. Also less waiting time letting the nails dry before painting.
    Congratulations on the huge growth of the channel! I've been subscribed since when you had not even 10K.

    I just finished nail school. I really over filed my nails in the beginning of school. I had also started nail vlogging on I was practicing everything mainly on my own hands. It’s been 5 months since I stopped overfilling. My nail damage is only only grown out half way up my nail. I have health issues and my nails and hair don’t grow as quickly as many peoples do. Although I hate that I had to damage my nails to learn the lesson, I’m glad I’ve experienced this to the extent I have. It’s made me so aware of the frustrations that come with damaged nails. I will never do that to a client! Also, it has helped educate me a lot on how to use the efile best. I’m a huge fan of the efile when used properly.

    What a treat to wake up to another of your manicures. Anna the lighting is fine, we can see perfectly well what you are doing. I think the reason your mum's polish lasted for 2 1/2 weeks is due to your excellent application. Your mum's nails look beautiful.

      Hello Dianne, thank you kindly! I'm even more shocked because she does dishes all the time (yes, I'm spoilt), never with gloves. I actually think that the week of OPI Repair Mode we did initially actually helped her nails. The difference in her nails was not really visible to the eye but I do find that polish lasts better after using it.

    Hi Anna! Thank you for the video.
    Two and half weeks wear is great, but as you said, it may not be ideal for protecting the nails from surface damage. But for prolonged wear during vacation, it is great!
    I sort of fell into a natural rhythm because polish lasts on my nails up to 5 days. I remove even if it could last longer and I take a couple of days to recondition my nails with oil soak/treatment. I works for me. :)

    It’s true - it will last 2 weeks on healthy nails. My nails are in pretty good shape now, except one nail (right pointer) that keeps peeling. I just removed my Dazzle Dry polish and I had it on for 2 weeks. It was still perfect, except for my right pointer. So, everyone, please be aware that if your natural nails have issues, Dazzle Dry cannot perform properly.

    Some of my clients are experiencing dry spots after using Dazzle Dry. They love the product and want to continue using it. Do you have a tutorial on how to treat this problem? Or a suggestion, so I can avoid future issues? Love your channel btw.

      Are you using Transform? Hands or feet? I suggest preventing this from happening and removing polish after 5-6 days and doing a warm jojoba soak.
      But I know that many people sell this service as long lasting manicure (up to 2 weeks) but continued wear of any nail polish can cause this

    When you see the term nail strengthened, is that the same as nail hardener? I definitely don't need hardener😊

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  10 місяців тому +1

      Strength is a perfect balance between hardness and flexibility. Harder can be more brittle too. So harder is not always better.
      Hard and brittle nails need more flexibility for strength.
      So harder is not a synonym of stronger.

    Hi Anna, thanks for all the wonderful and very helpful tips. I have started using Dazzle Dry base coat and ridge filler and have found that although I use and close them between each drying cycle, I am halfway through the bottle and the product is really thick now. Is there a way to restore it to the original and not lose what's left of this very expensive product?

    • @TheSalonLife

      Ridgefiller definitely can be thinned out. Use their thinner only thought. It's called Revive shrsl.com/43qjb

    Hi Anna- I stopped going to my salon for regular manicure. They always had me soak my hands briefly in warm water to soften cuticles. Is this bad as water dries out the nails? Do you ever recommend soaking in water? I have been doing the dry method as you suggest with the Blue Cross o product. Love the results. Thanks for everything! ❤

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  11 місяців тому +2

      Water not only softens the skin but it also softens the whole nail. There is no need for that. Cuticle remover does better job.

    Maybe some people are more “finger sensitive” and they can feel the difference when they aren’t wearing polish. Could this be why some people say they like to let their nail’s breathe?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  10 місяців тому

      Well, the nails are dead so they don't breathe but removing polish so you can condition the nail plate with oils is a good idea. Also I think polish gets brittle over time or might break down over time which can contribute to some surface damage too

  • @sharonmacinnes7645
    @sharonmacinnes7645 11 місяців тому

    Hi Anna! I have recently discovered your channel and am loving it. My son got married last month and I had my first professional manicure done for the occasion. It looked beautiful, but when it was removed it did a real number on my nails. They are all rough, bumpy and ridgy. Not sure, but I think it was some kind of shellac that was used. ( Sorry I am not very savvy when it comes to professional manicures! ). My nails look terrible with just regular nail polish so I was wondering what your opinion is with regards to press on nails. Will they damage my nails even more? As of right now I would say about 1/3 of my normal nail has grown out so I have a ways to go yet before they look good again. I am keeping my nails very short and gently pushing back the skin as per your advice. Thanks so much for your helpful videos!

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  11 місяців тому

      Hello Sharon! Thank you for your question. Anything that is stuck to the nail can damage the nail plate. Personally I would just care for the nails with oils etc until they grow out. Press on nails can damage the nails further especially when the surface is already damaged. I have a video about treating damaged nails after product removal. I’m gonna look for the link

    Can i ask the community: is it normal to have a yuck feeling when filling my own nails? Idk if this makes sense but all i can say is when i do my own its very uncomfortable like hearing nails on a chalkboard or having a sensory issue 😂. But I find that when i try to use a glass file on myself or another person it makes it 100% worse and I get a terrible feeling in my stomach. Lol not trying to be dramatic but i hope im not the only person who experiences this because i really want to get good at doing nails but i cant get over the uncomfortableness of the glass file. And i really wanted to use something more environmentally friendly like that. Maybe a metal file would be better? Is there such a thing?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  11 місяців тому +1

      I know some people have problem with how the glass files feel. I’m not too crazy about how the fine glass file feels as well. I prefer to file with slightly coarser side and then use a buffer to smooth the free edge. I think 240 grit emery board feels best on the nails.
