Be careful because a lot of tribs prohibit the use of 2 hooks on a line, however they do allow for 2 hooks connected to the same shank so an articulated fly would be okay. This technique though is illegal fishing in a lot of tribs, especially in NY, PA, and other states.
Ohio is different. I'm sure the author read the regulations. A well versed fisherman pinches the barbs for a better catch and release. While following the state guidelines.
Thy were introduced to the great lakes in the late 1800's. I live in Cleveland and go after steel head less than 2 miles from my house. They stock roughly 2000-3000 lbs. of them every year as well. Hard part, is sometimes it gets too warm in the river too early in the season and the little ones don't make to the lake. Forced to fish for them between November-December and Late February- April. Late spring can be caught fishing deep in the lake.
They have been stocking them for decades. They don't have to live in the ocean. Lake Erie and the other great lakes are great steelhead fisheries. The strains of steelhead are from the Pacific Northwest.
How about protecting the fish’s eyes from the sun. Try to keep the fish vertically or in a fishes natural swimming position, as opposed to horizontally or on its side or upside down. I noticed the fish in the net with the black fly in its mouth that took the zonker fly. Then I gave it some thought. How are we any different. Just a thought 🤔 💭 🤷🏽♂️
We should protect them from taking a hook in the mouth too. You're absolutely right. The sun is the absolute worst. You need to invent some sunglasses for these fish. If you don't I will. The world needs to get in line. That's what you gathered from this video.???? Closed eyes and ears are definitely an issue you might want to have your doctor look at. You have a tremendous amount of insight. Please share more.

Will the white zonker work in the lake Michigan tributaries like Trail creek Indiana or the sheboygan River in Wisconsin?
It should, best idea is to try it in combination with an egg pattern
@@newflyfisher Zonker 1st and egg 2nd?
As long as the natural bait fish in the water looks similar it will work.
Ever fish in the Ashtabula River???
Great video! Two questions, where can you find the netstaff net? Where do you find or buy the indicators that you are using?
Netstaff here: netstaffoutdoors.com
Indicators we used: www.stillwaterflyfishingstore.com/collections/accessories/products/quick-release-indicators
Was this filmed in fall or spring ?
fall
To me the hardy brothers fly reels & bamboo rods are the best in the world from england

Ohio is a two hook (on line) state. If its any different, the state is good about posting it at fishing accesses

Nothing like private water. This is a far cry from being elbow to elbow on the PA tribs.
All of the water is public.
Just have to stay off the land.
First
Great video and hints. Unfortunately, that close up you have of an "emerald shiner" in your palm is not, in fact, an emerald shiner.
Sorry. Rods
Steelhead in Ohio? Doesn’t make sense, Ohio only bumps up to Lake Erie, not the ocean……

We're different because they are fish and we are human.
Just like the moon is the moon and we are human. We are different in so many ways.
😂
