    Great video! there isn't much about this model of electro 35 out there, it'd be great if you added "viewfinder alignment/adjustment" to the title, I think it could help a lot of people!

    Thanks so much, your videos are so clear and very informative. Hope some day to effect a repair rather than taking some of the camera apart - scratching head - and quickly things back before I remember where they went. I have a Yashica 35 W and a Minster II both with aperture problems. The 35 W is only opening and closing a restricted amount - the Minster II's aperture blades are all over the place! Can you point me to one of your tutorials dealing with aperture repairs? What a wonderful service you are providing for us analogue fanatics. Bye and thanks again Mark

    I have this camera and when I tried cleaning the viewfinder I accidentally detached the hot shoe and pc cords. I have a soldering kit, but I don't really know what I'm doing. Would you perhaps be able to make a video tutorial on this? If not, any advice would be very much appreciated. Cheers

    The aperture ring on my camera was really stiff. Thanks to you I was able to disassemble the lens, clean, lube and now it's buttery smooth. Plus the glass is now as clean as a brand new camera. Some other day I'll try to clean the viewfinder my removing the top plate. The yellow patch on my camera is all blurry, it meters fine but it's like a yellow cloud in the middle of the finder. I'll try to fix that somehow.

    My GX seems to be in very good condition, but the shutter is only firing at around 1/30 - with or without batteries, and the light meter working when they are installed. Isn't the default shutter speed without batteries supposed to be the max 1/500? What could be causing this? The camera seems to be in otherwise great condition.

    I have a Yashica Electro 35 FC. The problem is that the shutter is the same on all settings. Shutter problem. There is a POD problem in other cameras. Could it be similar here? How can I repair in FC POD?

    Hehehe, i used an improvised light seal using an unused aircon filter. The material looks like a 3M scrub. I did not use any adhesives, I just copied what was shown in this video and laid it flat on the channels, door and hinge and voila! The Yashica Electro 35 GX is a great camera. Too bad film is getting expensive

    Great video! Thanks a lot! One of the common problem for these cameras is that the light meter became inaccurate or unsensitive. Can you offer some tips to mitigate that?

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  Рік тому +1

      The problem is usually haze on the light meter cell or the buildup of a calcium-like substance between the cell and the window on the lens name plate. This can sometimes be 2mm or more thick. It needs to be scraped out, and then the glass on the meter cell cleaned.

    Thank you so much for your video! I just got my GX, got it nicely cleaned but... it seems to have the pad of death problem too (erratic shutter behaviour, mostly top speed, then sometimes correct speed, yellow over-exposure arrow showing even when underexposed...). I got the top cover off but can't find the POD anywhere, seems to be quite different from the earlier electro 35.... Would you know of any way how I could get to the POD without needing to remove the whole lens assembly? Thank you so much for your help and all the useful videos you're uploading!

    • @Nico-df6fr
      @Nico-df6fr 2 роки тому +3

      I guess I didn't wanna stop in the middle. I went ahead and unscrewed the lens assembly. It wasn't so difficult after all, no removing of any screws on the top, only unhinging a little spring at the bottom and getting a c-ring off and there it was! right at the edge of the lens mounting plate! Replaced it and the camera seems to be working fine now!

      @@Nico-df6fr Hey there, I recently bought my 2nd GX (in black) after enjoying my first one so much. However, this one seems to have a similar issue to what you are describing. With or without batteries, my shutter seem to only fire at around 1/30 of a second or slower, with ISO/Aperture settings not affecting it at all. The light meter seems to be working, though i notice it tends to illuminate the Red underexposure arrow no matter what if the shutter is pressed down to a certain spot. Do you have any links or information on this POD fix and how I can do the same for my GX?
      Thanks

    The shutter lock ring on my 35gx is stuck in the open position - do you know what could be causing that or how to fix it? I noticed you dont remove it when taking off the top cover. Thank you!

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  11 місяців тому

      To unstick it, you would probably have to remove the front lens element, its likely that the shutter actuation linkage is stuck. Sometimes this can be fixed with a little solvent and oil, sometimes it can't. The linkage which is usually stuck is either near the electro magnet, or near the bottom of the shutter. A few drops of solvent applied to these areas may unstick it.

    Any advice for a stiff aperture ring?

  • @gordonwill6885
    @gordonwill6885 Рік тому

    With my 35GX the aperture ring is quite tight, and the retaining ring at the front of the lens is refusing to budge, is it possible to lubricate the aperture ring from the outside of the lens assembly? (Love your videos and the little snapshots of life you give at the start. I look forward to them..)

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  Рік тому +1

      I don't recommend trying to lubricate the ring from the outside, the oil will get everywhere. If the ring is too tight, there may be some other issue. Use solvent to soak into the retaining ring, and it should be easier to remove.

    I have a cracked (rangefinder/viewfinder) cover glass that is slightly loose :( how essential is it for me to match the thickness and the refractive index of the glass if i decide to replace it? would it meaningfully interfere with my ability to focus correctly?

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  Рік тому +1

      The front class won't affect focus, and it is common that the glass is loose or broken. You can replace with clear glass, if you can find a sheet thin enough. I use a pair of small wire cutters to trim the glass into the proper shape. You may break a few before you get one which is useable.

      Check and see if the plastic window on the frame counter didn't:t fall inside the camera, this is common problem and can cause the camera to jam, the window can get stuck between the gears. Another thing to check is that the spring under the shutter button is seated around the shutter plunger in the camera body.
