- Welcome to the latest episode of Every Platform Ireland. In today's episode we're on the intercity network again, this time heading to the coastal town of Westport as well as visiting the small branch line to Ballina from Manulla Junction. Services are seen by Iarnrod Eireann (Irish Rail). Some very rural and scenic railway stations in this one. Stay tuned to see what's seen in this video!

As soon as I’ve ever crossed the River Shannon, the rain has always poured down - from a bright sunny morning leaving Dublin Hueston, by the time I arrived into Claremorris it was sodden wet, misty, overcast and rainy - by the way, the present station in Athlone is on the County Roscommon side, not the County Westmeath side - coming from Manchester on SailRail, I’ve seen almost comical scenes when the ferry docks in Dublin, when those passengers for Mayo & Galway are desperate to get off the ferry and do the mad dash to Hueston
I’d love to see the line from Mullingar to Athlone being reopened, as this would make the West of Ireland more accessible to Dublin and vice versa 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️

that section of line is currently being cleared off which still doesn't mean for sure its opening but its likely, that line along with the Rosslare to Waterford has been submitted to the EU for funding for reopening
