You know, it is telling how from 4:59:15 Holmes, the cold, logical, often rather distant detective, seems disorientated and stunned. He doesn't remember where in the city they are and seems almost surprised to find that Watson was there with him at all. Then Holmes who normally despairs of Watson's dramatic turns of phrase and holds no truck with the supernatural, beings using artistic language to talk around what he saw and directly calls the inside of the room HELL. What he saw in that room was so bad that it broke though his icy shell and left him badly shaken. Which is understandable given the descriptions of what became of Mary Jane Kelly and I find it telling that Holmes refuses to let Watson see her remains and despite unflinchingly showing the player the other victims, all we get of Kelly is a simplified clay reconstruction. Even by the standards of Jack the Ripper, what was done to her was simply too much, both for the devs to want to recreate and for Holmes to look at dispassionately. A good decision to not depict that horror on screen and for showing that not even Holmes could look at that and feel anything less than horror.

i saw the pictures of the final victim. she was literally carved like a carcus. even sherlock holmes i would assume is not used to seeing that level of savagery on a daily basis and he's no green rookie detective. only those that are used to death everywhere like a soldier on a meat grinder battlefield being exposed to corpses that are blown apart blown to bits blwon in half or shot to pieces would be able ot be unphased.
When he comes out again; he is visibly disoriented, seems surprised to see Watson is with him, doesn't know where in the city he is and very notably talks around what he saw in that room, using otherworldly references and even directly invoking hell. For the coldly logical, science embracing Holmes to be acting this way say so much. It also speaks to Holmes' genuine friendship with Watson that he will not allow his good hearted friend to gaze upon what he just saw.
Love how in Crimes and Punishments Watson alludes to the ripper case implying that the ripper case happens before black peter’s death, yet the harpoon that killed black peter is on display in this game.
Oh, it's simple to explain. That was the harpoon that pierced Peter the Black, whereas the one we solve in Crimes and Punishments is Black Peter. Completely different, yuuuuup, no similarities, nothing to see here...

Frogwares series of these games from 2007 to 2014, so Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (2007), Versus Arsene Lupin (2007), Versus Jack The Ripper (2009), The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (2012) and Crimes & Punishments (2014) were all really great games with fantastic atmosphere and I have enjoyed them immensely. I love the look of Whitechappel in this, dark, foggy, drab, overcrowded, the interiors having no wallpaper or carpets. The version of Baker Street is lovely too, the rich red colours and the soothing music.
The Awakened, Arsene Lupin, Jack the Ripper trilogy was soooo good! Even the Secret Earring was good. I like how in these older games, there was a continuity and they had the same character models. I hope they do it as well with the Chapter 1 models. Chapter 1 is my second favorite SH game after Arsene Lupin

When I played this game as a kid roaming the Whitechapel streets at night always gave me anxiety. It was so dark and the background noises always sounded so menacing.
I’ve seen a lot of messed up things in my life, but nothing could have prepared me to see the real life picture of Mary Jane Kelly. It made me nauseous and lightheaded to the point where I had to sit down
Fascinating to watch the story unfold. But one of the many theories as to who the real 'Jack The Ripper' was. Would have been great if they had the pool of suspects were thought to be the Ripper and have different story lines etc to reach a different ending each time. Thankyou for upload. I did find the mime murders at the end a tad ridiculous though.
Yeah, not only was the miming a little over the top, but when Holmes' lips start moving, and there's no sound, I thought my game was bugging out. :/ Just an odd way to conduct that scene.

So have to say that it is impressive how much research they did. Like while there is obviously fictional component to the game, they didn't do stuff like ignoring that Jack the Ripper letter is extremely likely made up by reporter just because of how sensational the name is

Thank you for uploading this, I suffered a crash after hours of not saving towards the end of the game, and could not be bothered to speedrun to that point again. What a fascinating ending, was Jacob Levy truly a real man? I know there was a lot of accuracy (to my knowledge) on the case displayed in game (even going as far as to use the actual faces of the deceased) but I didn't expect it to be so accurate. There were many points to me where it felt like it was telling the entire story as it truly was.
Yes, Jacob Levy was one of several suspects police actually investigated, as were other characters portrayed in the game (Walter Sickert and Francis Tumblety).

I don’t think the characterization of Sherlock Holmes as an “action man” is completely a result of that movie, I remember in the 2002 adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles Holmes beats information out of some guy.
My only criticism really of the game is some of the padding in the middle. Taking on body snatchers, yellow journalists, street brawlers. Its because of the long length of time i guess between each murder they have to fill the time with.

Who's your money on? I would go for Aaron Kosminski or Nathan Kaminsky (David Cohen) Jacob Levy is an interesting one but I'm not sure. I wouldn't rule out James Kelly either or Hyam Hyams. Druitt is a funny one, police at the time had him as a top suspect but we don't know why. I think we can rule out Francis Tumblety, William Gull as too old to match the witness descriptions. The James Maybrick diary is also not in his handwriting and he was also too old.

After beating the game I read about the Jack the Ripper case and it too creppy how close game depicted to reality.

In the books it's stated that after some time, Watson sold his practice to spend his retiring years with Holmes until Holmes went on his own in isolation to be a beekeeper.

I mean, in general, Watson made time for Holmes. His wife even encouraged it when she thought he needed a break from the monotony of his life. With that said, I wonder if she would have approved of him joining Holmes on this case.

Gameplay is very slow...sometimes it's frustrating also solving those damn puzzles.....we already know that killer is jack the ripper 🤣🤣then why the hell we must solve these stupid faces only to see his face🤣so watching the gameplay 😂😂it's better

I would give Surelock Homes vs Jack the Ripper a 7 out of 10 because Jack the Ripper looks nothing like that and he wasn't Jewish so day really should have locked up the history of Jack the Ripper and to also look up what he looks like. 🤨
Well to be fair no one knows what Jack the Ripper looks like to be honest. sometimes they portrayed him something else entirely different and give him a diffrent backstory and apperence
