Chicken Do Pyaza/Murgh Do Pyaza by You and I Can Cook

  • Chicken Do Pyaza or Murgh Do Pyaza is an Indian favourite, delicious and aromatic chicken dish. It is made with onion and tomato based gravy. It is best served with Tandoori roti, butter naan or paratha. Adding bell pepper is optional but it gives a nice flavor to the dish.
    Full recipe :
    Chicken 1 kg bone in, cut into medium pieces, cleaned and washed
    1. Marinate the chicken :
    In a bowl add the chicken
    ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
    turmeric pwd - 1/2 tsp
    Red chilli pwd - 3/4 tsp
    Yoghurt lightly beaten - 2 tbsp
    salt to taste.
    apply it all to the chicken and set aside to marinate for 30 mins
    2. Make a puree of 3 medium tomatoes and keep aside
    3. chop 3 medium onions + seperate the petals of 2 medium onions and keep aside
    4. Add 2 tbsp oil to an utensil.
    5. when the oil gets heated add the whole garam masalas and fry for 30 secs
    cumin - 1 tsp
    Green cardamom - 5
    cloves - 5
    cinnamon - 1 inch piece
    pepper corns - 10
    Black (big) cardamom - 1
    bay leaf - 1
    6. Add the chopped onions to the utensil and saute them till they turn light brown.
    7. Also add 2 green chillies, slit on one side
    8. Add 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste to this and keep frying
    9. Once onion has turned light brown, add the tomato puree and keep sauteing till the raw smell of tomato goes.
    10. Add 1/2 cup of curd lightly beaten and continue to fry the onions.
    11. Add the marinated chicken to this and mix well and allow it to cook for 10 mins.
    12. Now add some water and continue to cook for another 10 mins
    13. Add the onion petals and the chopped bell peppers, give it a mix and cover and cook for 7 mins or till the chicken is cooked.
    14. Lastly add 1/2 tsp garam masala pwd and garnish with chopped corriander leaves.
    Enjoy with Butter naan, tandoori roti, paratha or rice.
