- customer came in with code p0300, p0171, p0174 as well as a trans code. I determined that the rubber coupling between intake plenum and throttle body was ruptured as evidenced by pattern failure and location of hiss.

dude sounds like Bernie Mack, thanks for the video, you helped me
Excellent walk through. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks.
Took my son an d I about 3 hours change this on our 05 Deville, but saved $500. Worth it and runs like new.
what is that rubber piece called?
This could probably be one of the most Helpful videos on Cadillac repair if you did it step by step.. Alot of people like Cadi Devilles but struggle with this code and nobody really knows anything about fixing this until you posted this video.
Where's the egr valve on a 2001 Cadillac DeVille
Phillip Howard rear nxt 2 firewall ithink
Great Video. Did the job today. Get the plenum on Amazon. The left side hose #506 from Cadillac. Boom!
Good looking Big Dog, I'm about to get started!
I just did this repair this past weekend. Rockauto sells it for $20, but since you're going to have to remove the intake manifold and throttle body, you might as well order new gaskets for those while you're at it.
The replacement duct that rockauto sells comes with new intake manifold gaskets already, but they are of questionable quality.
Dear blkthunderbolt,
That was a very informative video about the p0300 random multiple cylinder misfire on the 1997 Northstar 4.6L engine. I think I have a similar problem with the vacuum leak on my car that has an intermittent p0300 and was running lean for a short while about a week ago.
I have been getting the vibration and service engine soon light flashing intermittently with a solid service engine soon light, alternating between the two.
Sometimes, I clear the code and it doesn't come back for days and runs smooth for a while. But, when it runs rough it is apparent that something is not quite right.
Thanks for making this informative common sense video about the possible problem of a p0300 code on the Northstar engine.

Hey Eric! With the help of your video we could fix the car in less than 2 hours with my friend at home. Thanks so much for the good advices! 😁
glad to be of service and thanks for watching
Great video, and very informative !
great vid thank you.... but I have a dumb question.... is there supposed to be a hole on the bottom of the throttle body just behind the butter-fly valve???? it looks almost like it has been corroded or something,,,, please help. thank you (2002 cadi deville north star regular engine)
Good work and video. Now would be a great time to replace the starter.
You can wiggle your fingers in order to remove the hose elbow easily
yes
How do you disconnect the fuel line at the two points where they're joined together by the bottom right of the penelum. I tried to pull em apart they move but dont come off. Im trying to takr it off like you did
I'm looking at buying a Cadillac Seville for my son. I was told the vacuum needs replaced. What's a good guesstimate of what this could cost? Thank you
I want to thank you for this video cause it helped me fix my high idle and Northstar.. you can find part on amazon and it comes with 8 caskets for manifold for only $28 so you can replace them when you remove cover. it's a intake coupling made by Dorman ... Very helpful
Jonathan Garcia what's the part called on amazon? the one he used in the video. please help!
wendy stark
the part is called an intake coupler. dorman part number is 911-010 rock auto has it for about 15.00 dollars or oriellys or AutoZone for 25.00.
@@stephenp1717 thank you
Good video. I have rough idle too. I'm afraid i have a leak in my northstar in at least one of the two places you found to be leaking.
Will this cause pinging under hard acceleration medium to hard acceleration sometimes a ping sometimes it doesn't it dries me crazy even on 93 octane. 110K on a 06 DTS
Well done...very informative
Had the same problem. Bought the car in Minnesota and was running so bad I had doubts that it would make it to Texas. Took it to a garage and it was a $530. fix.
Enjoyed Video and Thank You!
hi..could you tell me how many foot pounds you torqued those intake manifold bolts?
Just had mine done. 2 weeks ago. 2004 Cadillac Deville.
So you had an 05 DeVille right (mine is an 04) at any point did you have to deal with a p0507 - Idle speed high? If so what was the fix thanks in advance.
I like the way you talk
just got mine fixed today, same problem
First off thanks for the input on what to change.... My 01 deville has starter under intake.... I can give you pointers on a fast starter change.... I say this because the tip saves alot of unneeded work for fuel rail and coolant bypass versus how your doin it.. Other than that awesome much needed info and thanks again
Well what u waiting for a invitation
@@pismopete1169 the coolant line doesnt need to be completely removed.... Once its unbolted when the fuel rail is it just lays off to side without being in the way... Also when fuel rail is unbolted from intake and mounting bracket and injectors unplugged and free'd from intake it too can be layed over to side as well if i remember correctly its release lines off the clip plate on top of the throttle body part
I have a low idle problem on mine could this also solve the problem ?
How did you remove the fuel rail? I’m trying to get to my starter so I can put the new one in but I’m stuck on the damn fuel rail
How much does that part cost?? & cost to fix & install it? My cadi does the same.
Nice video. Thanks
i have same car. getting code p0101 and p1021 . changed ignition switch, iac, map, car now has extereme fast idle, same codes..... any sugestions???? idle is at 4000+
Wow Eric! .... dude, I never thought of looking at those two rubber couplings. I know where they are, but when I got a po171 I assumed it was sensor 1 bank 1 Oxygen sensor. So I tried and tried to remove it with no luck. Just wound up rounding over the sensor nut. Must be cheap metal alloy Cadillac puts in from the factory. Anyway, I decided to look deeper into other possible lean conditions, including vacuum leaks. Now I watch your video and will definitely check those two. I wanted to connect a vacuum tester up to the intake manifold somewhere but can't find any suitable vacuum lines.
Sorry I forgot to mention mine is a 2008 DTS
W000000W i Just had my starter replaced on cadillac deville. he change the gaskets on the bottom of my intake. Those square shape ones. I really starting to think he didn't put something back correctly. My car didn't shake before the starter replacement because i would have notice. I gonna start sparying that break cleaner tomorrow the intake with car running. Looking for change in the engine sound.
It wasnt any leaks
Thanks, bro! 🤘😁 Well done.
thanks for watching
what’s that part called ? that goes between the motor and throttle body
Is that Miguel in the background? Great song.
Great video
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
Oh lord jesus, she's on fire!!
hey i have a 01 Cadillac deville and if i drive fast are hold my foot on the gas are the it sit still if will smoke
srt8 srt8 WHAT? Dude, you made absolutely NO SENSE.
does anyone know what the part number for this "plenum gasket" is? I'm having a little bit of trouble tracking one down.
+Catfish McCoy its an easy part to obtain. You can buy at your local GM or Cadillac parts department or look online like ebay. They are out there and easy to find. They are very cheap to buy as well.
How much u charge for this problem bro im out west
anyone know if this is a problem on the SRX? I just got a p0174 on a used 04 SRX I picked up a few weeks ago. Car only has 74k on it but it had been sitting for almost a year. worried some seals like this are dried out and what not.
I can't find this part for SRX tho on sevile and devile
Same thing going on with my 04 srx, im trying to figure it out to. I've been told this is very common
let me know when u figure it out. I cleared the code and drove 20 miles to work this morn and it ran fine and didnt pop again.
Mr Blkthunderbolt is correct. This is a very documented common failure among Cadillac STS & SLS 98-04.
I have a clean Bangin 03 Cadillac STS White Diamond with shale vinyl tonneau top, Flawless................
Gerard Garcia Options that ONLY YOU care about!
Your probably taking public transportation. It's ok though.
Gerard Garcia Im sure its a beautiful car. The pearl/ diamond white was always my favorite on the newer Cadillacs and on the Sevilles mostly. I would love to find and Seville STS here soon if I can make some room. I have a 2005 Deville as my daily driver and I love it
What is the name of the part
You don't have to open the fuel lines. They will bend up out of the way. There is one screw to remove on their bracket, and the flexible tubing will let them be moved.
Werefeat 004 When the shop is charging by the hour do they really want to cut a whole 30 mins out of the job at $65-100/hr? That an extra $35~50. Also some of the plastic/rubber gets brittle with age & will crack/break if bent. So nobody wants to fix 2 vacuum leaks only to open of a NEW leak:)
Is it absolutely necessary for the intake manifold to have to be removed?
What’s the name of the part.
Thank you so very kindly. Im kinda intimidated by this job ahead of me. Wish you were back here in Iowa to hold my hand to cross this street to a great running Cadillac. To be honest, I was convinced it was my fuel pressure regulator. In with it still might be. Im truly overwhelmed with this 2000 deville DHS (every option on it with only 116k on the odometer) I believe I may just sell it in fear of ruining it further. Any tips or advice would be greatful. And if back in Iowa lets do a youtube video of the nightmare in Wich my beautiful lady is madly in love with. Ugh.
Thanks for watching. Glad i can be helpful.
Thank u
and thank you for watching
I think u explained the issue and how to solve the problem perfect my 01 caddy doing the exact same thing thx.
Glad I can help. Thanks for watching.
sorry so long I got a question bro I have a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville GXP it has a 4.6 L V8 Northstar and only 52,000 miles on it I take care of all of my cars prime example when it reached 50,000 I got the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and coil packs replaced about a month ago a check engine light came on and Oreilleys read it a said it was the downstream O2 sensor I went to a shop and they put it on their machine and told me it was the catalyc converter they took off the factory cat and put a resonator on it I told em that ain't worth a damn cause I don't want a light on that shouldn't be on they told me if I replace the cat the light will go off I bought a cat from rock auto and took it to them to put it on the guy came out after he opened the part and told me it didn't have the square washer with it he put it on the light went off for 2 days now it's back on and I gotta go up there and raise hell in tha morn i'm bout to file a civil suit any tips on what tha hell I should do? my car runs perfectly fine no sputtering/rough idling etc...
Thanks for the help and what kind of bands will make her dance lol
I will keep my 4.9. At least I can get to all the elbows without removing the upper plenium. (as well as not having to disturb all 8 injectors!)
What is the part called i need this for my deville. Thanks
You ever find out
Intake coupling is the name of the river part
what is that rubber piece called?
Can you buy the Boot Aftermarket or is it a Dealership item. Thank you
I got it from the dealer
@@blkthunderbolt Thank you
Did you replace the intake gaskets?
no. there was no need
Where did you order that part at im having the same issue but can't find it anywhere
I'm pretty sure this was a dealer only item. Not going to find it at your local parts store. It's been awhile. Don't have the part number.
Juan Morales The crankcase ventilation tube with the little rubber elbow is a Dealer-only part. I had the same thing needing replaced on my 05 Deville. So in the meantime I used the rubber elbow of an old plug wire I had laying around and it works great. The throttle coupling you can purchase anywhere else. You dont need to go to the dealer for that one. My car runs perfect now
The rubber elbow of an old spark plug wire??? That's brilliant! Just goes to show that need is the mother of invention...and cost effective too!!!!
ted marshall Yes Thank you! And it still is working great. I did buy the dealer part anyways for my parts inventory just to have. The rubber elbow off an ignition wire will last a lot longer and being made for extreme heat.
Check ur air diverder valves they may not b working
What are the parts called or the part number?
You ever find out ?
Well aint that a bitch! lol I have a 2005 sts and im having the same problem. thanks for the video. It may help me out.
Willbemeful did you ever get the problem fixed because I have a 2005 Cadillac and I'm having the same problem also
What should I check for a p0300 code?
po300 is a misfire code. if you get a number after the 300 like 302 or 306 then the 2 and six are the cylinders that are misfiring.
Where are you located, i need you
North Carolina. wish i could help you
Wats the parts number and name
its been so long i don't have the part number anymore. sorry.
wow I have a leak on both sides too.... on my 2003... it doesn't look like a $500 job though...
+allen sharako It really isn't that bad. Its pretty easy. I have done it myself before and it takes about 30 minutes to do the entire job. A common problem but a very easy fix!!
allen sharako what is the rubber piece called that needs replacing?
Intake plenum. The piece on the opposite side behind the power steering pump is the crankcase ventilation tube that runs into the intake itself. That is another very common place for a vacuum leak to check as well. It happened to me on 2 of my cars.
Try a $1300 job at least that's the quote from the dealer...
