I was pleased to visit the Cathedral on a Sunday and have the opportunity to attend his evening mass. I followed the Archbishop although I belonged to the Erie Diocese. I appreciate his teachings and miss his presence. May he be blest to enjoy his retirement and continue to write. He is a wise and gentle teacher.
Greetings Archbishop Chaput, from Lakota country. Good to simply hear your voice. I too have a special love and gratitude for Philadelphia and singularly, for St. Charles!!!
Lovely to hear his soft spoken voice. He cleaned up the archdiocese of its sexual abuse crisis. Pity he had to close churches and people became further from the remaining churches. I could remember a lady saying one of the churches with Polish masses near her home which she attended daily closed and she was almost in tears. When he was in charge I read Catholic Philly regularly to update on his views and summaries of his homilies. It was important to read what a senior pastor in a great city like Philadelphia was thinking and feeling. I also listened to his sermons from the cathedral regularly. I still hope and pray he will become the first native American cardinal.
I can illustrate the impact Archbishop Chaput has had simply. I used to wear a plastic bracelet with "WWJD" on it (what would Jesus do?"). I find the archbishop so vividly teaches on the model of our Lord that I stopped wearing the bracelet. On virtually any issue or question I have, I can see and hear him talking. It is such a proxy for WWJD that I internalized the reminder. High praise indeed. And as practical as can be. He is a wonderful and true gift to the Church.
