    Nice demonstration of operation. But the entire clutch is sealed and no way for dirt to get in. What actually happens is that the grease around the rollers eventually dries out and prevents the rollers from engaging the shaft properly or the rollers eventually develop a flat spot ( especially if not properly lubricated ) and because the clearance between engaged and disengaged is extremely small the flat spot or spots ( 5 rollers ) will again prevent the clutch from transmitting power. So 2 reasons why they fail - lack of lubrication causing flat spotted rollers and broken springs - as he said he had removed 2 springs to replace springs that had broken in another clutch.

      So my truck manual says never to immerse the clutch portion in any solvent. Why? Perhaps because the solvent is very viscus and can penetrate and strip any remaining lube from the rollers. In that case I guess it's better to just buy another new one as they are sealed and cannot be re-lubed per se.
      Probably not worth the effort of trying to open and then close up the clutch case.
      Good explanation video though.

      How does the smooth pinion gear transmit force to the smooth rollers to make the clutch spin? I cant figure it out. I paused the video to see if there are any machined grooves in the pinion but it looks completely smooth

    15:14 It will just convert the direction of torque when the driver is changed from inside armature shaft to outside flywheel!! absolutely brilliant explanation man. You just cleared my confusion for a long time. You are awesome. Please make more videos of automobile with your unbelievably detailed information. Love from Bangladesh. ❤❤❤

      @@TheAbJGarage you are awesome. I have been racking my brain due to the 'everything is engaging, but no power flow' (rollers not transmitting power). I tried the soaking and shaking and it worked.

    Thank you. Very informative. I have a 2010 Nissan Versa that had a screeching sound when starting. Removed the starter and found a dry roller clutch which was hard to turn. Cleaned and re-lubed everything. Works like a champ now!

    Hi . I'am a manufacturer of cylindrical rollers which plays a crucial role in a running clutch. We can supply rollers in G3 and G6

    Hi friend, I have a problem with the starter clutch, but the opposite, instead of slipping, it is binding when the flywheel starts to spin, this happens occasionally once every 50 starts lets say. Would soaking in solvent help? Or spraying WD40, but I'm not sure if it will get in because its almost sealed, I'm not sure how to remove the cover without damaging it.

      Soaking will definitely work! use solvents like kerosene if you want and do as described @ 12:00 minute in the video. Soak... then shake..... soak....then shake repeatedly until the binding debris and dirt in the clutch is washed off. You could see that as the color of the solvent keeps changing as you wash. The pinion gear is smooth. The rollers are smooth. I can’t understand how force is transmitted from pinion gear to the rollers to make it spin

    • @TheAbJGarage
      @TheAbJGarage  6 місяців тому +3

      No matter how a surface looks to the naked eye, there are always surface irregularities and hence we have friction even on the shiniest surfaces. And in addition, the springs are forcing the rollers to a narrow and tight space, holding them pressed. This increases the gripping of the rollers and hence power flows. One roller might not be enough, but when we have multiple of them, they assist one another!

    • @hlpang1075
      @hlpang1075 6 місяців тому

      @@TheAbJGarage i watched another video and understand it now. It spins because the rollers are jammed into a smaller space then its diameter which forces the shaft to spin.

    Can that clutch be reversed?
    I have disel starter motor who I modified to turn ither direction but I come across problem the clutch does not spin in proper direction so is it posibel to disabel that clutch rotstion the pinion?

    • @TheAbJGarage
      @TheAbJGarage  Рік тому

      You would have to reverse and interchange the pinion gear and it's spline to try using it in reverse direction.
