  • The British Army Bergen is a popular backpack for beginners and experienced campers and bushcrafters alike! And what’s not to like about it? Sure it may not be the most comfortable, ultralight pack BUT with a 100 litre capacity with expandable storage, toughness AND cheap price - what’s not to like?

The Bergen exists in two different sizes: Short and Long - the one you have looks like Short, because the waist strap sits so high. The Long version is more comfortable if you're not wearing webbing, especially if you are taller. I used to have the Infantry, Long version but swapped it for a Berhaus Crusader because the Bergen was just not comfortable - I'm a skinny bloke, so the waist strap didn't have enough adjustability for me, the shoulder padding had hardened by age, plus the rather simple padding against the back provided no air circulation at all so my back got all sweaty every time I used the pack. Also one thing you have to bear in mind - none of the new-style Berghaus MMPS side pockets fit the Bergen, or vice versa - the zips are the same size, but they are the other way round, so any pouches from the other system sit upside down - I've heard a claim that this is because Berghaus got miffed at the British MOD stealing their designs and deliberately changed their new system to be incompatible with the issue gear, but since I've never seen really old Berghaus gear, I've no idea if it's true or not...

Great piece of kiT and a great review bro. I had one, the short back version (being 5'8") I think that the long back was for dudes over 5'9"? KTF🙏

I have one, I have the long back, you have the short back which is why you waist strap is so high up. I had 29kg in mine a month ago which destroyed me 😂 It's a tough as nails pack though, I will keep mine forever.
I got the yoke recently too for the pouches.

I use mine for collecting fire wood and it’s seriously heavy when full. The bag gets thrown down hill sides and dropped on the floor fully loaded and there isn’t a tear on it anywhere. Bomb proof.

I have the long back version of the British Army Bergan and the waist band is much lower and sits where it supposed to, on the hips.

One of the best tools a soldier takes in the field is the Sewing Awl find them at most camping stores of a saddlery (Horse Store) 🔥

Beautiful backpack, I have one and I use it regularly. The hip belt fits on your ribs, because your bergen is short (short back), if you had bought a long one (long back) you wouldn't have that problem. I'm 6 feet 3 inches tall and my Bergen long back fits me perfectly.

Nice but not for us in the States too expensive compared to our own military surplus gear. Probably best value for you guys like European gear is cheaper too.

Never ever store extra crap 💩 on the outside of your pack we called them Christmas Tree 🎄 packs 😂😂😂 more things to get hooked up on in the bush everything goes inside or it doesn’t go thermal mat included 🔥
